This is going to be the next generation's Doughty vs Karlson debate

We could have gotten both of them at one point before both became talented and expensive players..... and then Kings flubbed their 2nd First Round pick in 2008. What could have been indeed.

I think ive read that hes been asked to lengthen his stick but so far he's refused to do so.

I mean it seems to be working for him
That’s really interesting. Shorter sticks were more prominent in my day but it’s pretty odd to see much of them today. Allot of pretty good players used shorter sticks. But it’s all a different game today. I use a shorter stick today but not as short as when I was a whipper snapper.

I can't unsee that short stick now, and I wonder if that's something he's asked to experiment with adjusting. That would explain why he's so hunched over. He could have even MORE reach which will be important vs. pros as well as keeping him a bit more upright to use his size. Obviously he can tool juniors with it.

I hope not, unless they feel he needs a longer one for skating/back reasons.

A shorter stick allows for easier control in tight while also requiring less of an arc to move the puck. A shorter stick plays to his strengths well.

They had the 12th pick and traded down a spot to let Buffalo select Tyler Myers, too. The next five defensemen taken after Teubert at 13: Erik Karlsson (15), Jake Gardiner (17), Luca Sbisa (19), Michael Del Zotto (20), Tyler Cuma (23), and John Carlson (27). The Kings then selected Voynov at 32, six picks before Roman Josi (38).

The Kings realistically could have had Doughty, Karlsson, and Josi from the same draft.

Yeah hard to argue with results!

I get the why, I'm just musing on if his 'hunched over' criticism is stick related rather than stride related. Putting that together with all the stuff we've read from past coaches, and it's like he's actively 'played smaller' to not kill people in the past.

He's got great puck control and a quick shot with it too, just strange to watch a player actively sacrifice reach in this day and age

If you claim to have watched Stuetzle, then you wouldn't be comparing him to Ziggy. Ziggy had a lethal shot and was money on breakaways. Show me how many breakaway goals Stuetzle has scored on, or come off the wing and ripped a shot over a goalie's shoulder.

You also clearly haven't watched Byfield, because everything you claim Stuetzle can do, he can do as well.

I don't think he was saying Byfield does not do those things well. I think he was saying Stützle is the best in this draft class at those specific things. I can not comment on the player comp. Obviously as far as goal scoring goes, yeah Byfield will likely be better. Byfield is likely gonna develop into a fantastic power forward in the NHL. At this point I feel like the debate should be over. The Draft is tomorrow and you guys have the 2nd overall pick, enjoy it(I wanted Nico, but eh Nolan Patrick was still something to celebrate). Only time will tell how things shake out so probably best to just be excited for all these kids. In conclusion, for better or worse I'm super confident the Kings go Byfield. As Stützle is my guy this actually is (Well probably. I mean there is always a chance until its official), my last post. Its gonna be a fun day and I really hope Byfield achieves greatness and that in the future I can learn from my misprojection which prospect traits more accurately project NHL success.

To end I'm gonna update my personal projections. Never thought I would make my own projection, but man one day this summer I just wanted to watch some of the top guys for the draft and this kid Stützle blew my mind. So I decided to watch most of the first rounders play a few games. This is ultimately my gut feelings not based on who should be drafted where so please don't overreact to it. I'm not bashing any prospects. I believe in all of these kids and I hope they all succeed. Its just fun to go with what/who you believe in.

1. Stützle (I told you I was going with my gut, and my gut says in all of my hockey centered life I've never seen a player like this kid.[obviously except Crosby, Mcdavid, etc])
2. Laf (I mean he's obviously supremely talented and the number 1 player everywhere except my gut)
3. Perfetti(It's not a knock on Byfield I just think this kids mind is incredible and my gut says Perfetti)
4. Byfield (You are very aware of who he is and how talented he is at this point)
5. Holtz(Bold, I know. The kid has grown on me so much its weird. My gut feeling is an elite scorer)
6. Rossi(I just love the way the kid plays. So yeah I should put Raymond here[I meakln F*CK I should really put Raymond higher than this], but I'm going off gut. The mind says Raymond, but the body says Rossi)
7. Raymond(He's legit)
8. Drysdale(my gut just prefers offensive D)
9. Sanderson(Defensive D are great too)
10. Seth Jarvis/Lukas Reichel(Jarvis is just too smart for my gut to leave him out. Reichels just more of a feeling. The kids biggest fault is he weighs [maybe weighed] 165lbs add muscle and you got a freak)

At the end of it all its been real guys. Thanks for making these pandemic times more fun with prospect stuff. I hope for the best for your squad. I also look forward to seeing how I did. One last time, just enjoy the moment! Hopefully there won't be more them for thr kings for some time!

The funny thing is every mock draft has me asking the same thing, "why is Raymond falling so far," heh.

Re: Byfield I think the only thing you've missed on him is in picking apart traits. He's truly a sum-of-his-parts player. individual prospects may rank better in categories--Perfetti's brain, Stutzle's skating, etc.--but it's Byfield having the absolute complete package at a high level that takes him up in my eyes. Maybe that's one of the reasons others drop him too, not one thing jumps out like Stutzle's electricity because he's just so god damn good at everything and he's huge so he 'looks slow' like how Kopitar's biggest drawback is 'looks boring.' I can get how Byfield would look not as physically dynamic/exciting as the other top 3-5 and I'm not sure how much of that is flash vs. effectiveness.

I"m excited either way, cheers.

Thanks for that, it’s crazy to ponder that scenario and what could have been. But I think it also shows how over emphasized the draft has become.

The Kings won two cups without EK and Josi, and it took trades and coaching and drafting to get there.

I've actually resisted the urge to watch game and highlight film on guys this year. In the past, I do so and get waaaay too tied into player X and Y.....only to not even end up being picked. It also allows me to not get overly excited / annoyed with the selection(s). It's like being a kid waiting for Christmas day and my turn to open up the gift to finally see what i'm getting.

As a sens fan I sure hope you're all right about L.A taking Byfield. I prefer Stutzle but I think either fan base should be extatic that were getting either player. Have fun today our fan bases havent had much to look forward to in a long time.

We've had 7 months since we played literally the last game of the season. Unbelievable! It's like Christmas.

What does 'looks like they are taking Stuetzle' even mean? How can it 'look like'? And this Peters dude has them taking Byfield. God I'm looking forward to this **** ending today.
Greg Wyshenski who cares what he thinks, arrogant guy that never played the sport and talks down to everyone. Both players are going to be stars. Just be happy you're not Detroit. That would really stink, historically bad team and doesnt get one of the top 3 players.
