Prospect Info: NHL Entry Draft thread: LA Kings select Quinton Byfield 2nd Overall (Part 3)

I see quotes like this from guys and roll my eyes because I respect them as scouts but doubt they really have traction in terms of inside sources. This was Pronman at The Athletic's pick a few hours ago and his reasoning. Industry sources are basically nothing because the ones making the pick aren't going to be telling anyone anything. It's not surpirising though because Pronman never really goes all-in on anything. It's like he always wants to leave himself an out in case he is wrong:

  1. Los Angeles Kings: Tim Stutzle, C, Mannheim-DEL
The information on this pick has not changed since I last wrote about it on Thursday. A majority, but not an overwhelming majority of industry sources, think the Kings will go with Stutzle at No. 2 over Sudbury center Quinton Byfield.

My brother-in-law's best friend was operated on by one of the Dodger's physicians back in 2017 who told him that Corey Seager was going to miss the upcoming World Series with a back injury. He played all 7 games.

I trust my brother-in-law, his best friend is a solid dude, his doctor's not going to lie to him, and the doctor is going to be pretty clued in when it comes to matters directly involved with his role with the team. Yet the information passed to me was wrong.

You don't gain credibility on a day old account by claiming the organization is leaning one way or the other when its 60-40 or closer, even if your sources are good.

I could easily open a new account, start posting that I'm related to one of the scouts and they're going Stutzle. At worst, 40% chance I'm right, 60% chance I never log in to that account again.

Everything I posted is what I heard, u can believe it or not. I did say yesterday that the Kings contacted Rangers and where shown the door right away. I heard this Sunday night and decided to come on here and share with other fans. Frank Seravalli just came out with this news today.

They didn't, I said the Kings org. feels OTT prefers QB and that being the case they engaged them to see what they would be willing to give up to get him. Not saying it's gonna happen, not saying it won't. Just posting what I hear. Again, I'm no Insider.

Also, I been roaming this fan page probably longer then most of you, true story.

How do you account for the fact that the media over here is suggesting Ottawa actually prefers Stutzle?

Or how the head scout of LA says they actually DO prefer one over the other?

I'll answer for you: you can't, because you made everything up. Lol.

No worries, I and others here appreciate it. Don't let these guys ruin it if so just ignore them.
It really is too bad that you guys are sitting behind your keyboards and just being a jerk to this guy. I hope he is right, so that he will shut down the negativity. I'm glad he did share with us because that is one reason I keep coming back here during the draft and TDL. It's going to suck when you chase the insiders away and then it's just stupid Taco Bell jokes from the other site.
By the way..I like TS, probably because I was a big Ziggy fan.
TL : DR don't be a jerk.

How reliable are Bernstein and Hoven? I've spoken with one of them on Twitter, and have an acquaintance who spoke with the other, and both seem to be certain that Byfield is being selected by L.A. As late as last night, one of them said that they're more confident that Byfield would be chosen than they were in previous days.

Not sure about Bernstein but Hoven's hit rate is pretty good.

I hope this is true.

Hoven is very reliable.

So if the Kings wanted to move up to the top spot, why would they then try to move down a spot and miss out on the top two guys they have ranked, especially if all they get is a late 1st, which is only a few spots ahead of their 2nd round selection?

I guess I was wrong. My last post isn't until after the Kings pick happens. My guess is yeah Stützle fits Kings better than Byfield(who's fit also is good just ever so slightly less). Including both kids and all of the top 10 players no one fits the Kings better than Laf. That was one of my first thoughts post Lottery. Byfield best fits Sens, Ducks, Wild, Rangers. In that order. Laf is too much to pass on. Guaranteed production for cheap rookie contract. Laf clearly fits the Kings/Wings/Ducks/Devils/Buffalo best. If I had to rank Lafs best fit 1. Kings 2/3. Devils 3/2. Sabres 4. Wings(still need a lot more than him which is the only reason they are not higher) 5. Ducks(Similar to the Wings their whole Offense is pretty depleted so most prospects fit the ducks. Him and Zegras would however be Dynamite). Stützle best fit as LW Sabres, Kings, Devils, Wings, Ducks, most teams with established high end centers on 1st line, in that order. Best fit as Center(which personally I just think he will contribute more on the wing but) Rangers, Ducks, Wild, Wings, Sens. As a center, his fit with most teams (kind of like Byfields fit with the Kings) pretty good for most teams, but not the best. I really think if there is any team in the top 10 Stützle busts with its the Sens. Teams Stützle is most likely to become a superstar with is Kings/Sabres. If there is any team Byfield does not hit his ceiling with I'd say Buffalo/Devils. I think Byfeilds most likely to become a superstar destination is Sens/Ducks. Laf will be high caliber regardless of where he goes so it's not worth going over.

I write for Mayor'sManor (David Hofreiter if you want to look at my articles).

I trust Hoven more than anyone. I don't know his sources, so hopefully nobody will ask.

Edit: I trust Bernstein, too. I think I disagree with him a lot more, but I trust he's putting out honest info he hears from reliable sources. With Bernstein, we've only had Twitter arguments (read: no direct/private communication)

Oh I've done my reading, lol. Good stuff! I've been very interested in the TS/QB debate.

I've only communicated with my guy via Twitter, so it's not like he's my next door neighbour. Didn't want to reveal much on here out of respect to him taking the time to talk to someone with 100 Twitter followers. Would be happy to PM someone if they were interested.

Actually, that's not the way it unfolded. You are making it seem like you heard the Rangers piece Sunday and you came here to post it. Yet what actually transpired is that I said (no inside information whatsoever) that I was sure the Kings/Rangers have talked (like many teams do throughout this process) and it likely ended quickly. You then replied to my response saying "yes, I can confirm that did happen". Small difference but quite big in significance. Not saying you didn't know about it beforehand and simply didn't mention it first.....but fact is you didn't until the topic was first mentioned by a person who knows nothing (me).

You are right, some posters are throwing me under the bus so I decided to be silly. I'll just sit back like everyone else and watch everything unfold.

I mean on the off chance you really are connected please keep posting, it would be the coolest thing ever to have that kind of an update. I will take it with a grain of salt because... you know... the internet. At the very least I enjoy your posts. The possibility of them being accurate, while not likely, is super fun haha

I said this before, but what would happen if for some reason, the Rangers' GM might be on some sort of weird substance at the time he makes the #1 pick and he ends up picking either Byfield or Stutzle against all logic? What does the Kings do in this case? Have to pick Laf?

0 hesitation. Sprint on stage, out of breath announce the pick. Picture perfect fit and talent
