GDT: NHL draft lottery

Time to look at the bright side. The Ducks didn’t get a top 2 pick, and the top 2 went to the east coast. Chicago getting three is irrelevant. The players that will likely be available after Hughes and Kakko could fall anywhere in the 3-5 range. Also, time will tell if Hughes and Kakko were the best from draft. 2017 is perfect example. I would take Elias Petterson over Patrick or Nico.

Great point Petterson was also the 5th overall pick and from all the buzz surrounding Makar looks like he's gonna be better then Hischier and Patrick as well. So if we can just do our homework we may stumble upon a Jaromir Jagr at the 5th overall. Not likely, but just saying all we need to do is get the best player available along with a little luck and Kings will be reloading sooner then later.

Agree completely. This organization needs a pure goal-scorer.

Keep him away from this dumpster fire the next 2 years, accumulate a couple of more top 5 picks in 2020 and 2021 and have this kid ready at age 20 to make an impact in the NHL along with the other kids they draft the next 2 years.

Yep.

People are really sleeping on Pod. He can be a legit star in this league. Like I’ve said elsewhere, if he was Finnish or Swedish, he’d be the undisputed #3 pick behind Hughes/Kakko.

He’s worth the minor risk if he falls to #5. But I truly think Chicago will snatch him up at #3, especially considering their recent success with Russian players.

And hope he turns into the next Nail Yakupov screw them for getting so damn lucky.

My guess is they both knew they lost out to the Rangers and Hawks.

Yup I bet that's exactly what happened. If I was Luc I'd be like eff this see ya I'm not sticking around to see this horsebleep. Than have an empty seat for them idiots to look at. LOL.

It was an issue during the Mario Lemieux draft year. That was a real **** show between the Pens and Devils.

It was comical at times the lengths they went to lose. I think at one point the Pens called up their minor league backup goalie to start a few games at the end of the year,
Also a huge issue during the Lindros and Daigle drafts too.

As disappointing as today was, after watching decades of Kings drafts and seeing what was there when they picked, I am looking forward to having the amount of talent available at #5 and also having 2 more high picks to help restock a system that is in dire need of more highly skilled players.

Not worried.

One player was not going to save the franchise. The organization's infrastructure as a whole needs to be better.

Of course the result sucks. But if the Kings pivk and develop well, it doesn't matter if they pick 5th. If they don't, then the 1st overall wouldn't help either.

The Kings can sign him after his season in the KHL ends in 2021 to burn a year off it to basically make it a 2 year ELC.

We always hear this about Russians not coming over and 99% of them do. If he’s a star in the NHL he will be making 8 figures. He won’t pass it up.
Russians and L.A. dont mix. There isnt a huge Russian community like on the East coast to make them feel at home and the flights from L.A. to anywhere in Russia suck compared to say NY. I can count the handful of Russians who "worked out" in L.A. Zhitnik, Frolov, Voynov, Yachmenev, Kovalchuk, Tsyplakov and Loktionov. Most ended badly.

Just think, if we had won a few more games we'd have finishing where NJ was and then got the top pick. So much for tanking. And how the F are 2 original 6 teams in the final 3, and can someone explain how chicago moved from 12 to 3?!
Explanation: Probabilities. It's just chance, so don't stress out too much about it. Chicago got lucky, the Kings and Avs got unlucky.

We should package the pick and trade everything and anything to get Taylor Hall. The return of first overalls would be more than enough to compensate for anything we have to trade away to acquire him.

More like defeated. It's almost as if he knew we dropped to 5th before hand.
The combinations are drawn before the announcement, so yeah, he pretty much knew, just like all the other front office guys there. You can't do a reverse order announcement the way the lottery is set up. The whole announcement is just a show for TV.

What is your definition of a huge community? LA has the 2nd largest russian pop in America.

I just want someone that can score some goddamn goals. If I have to watch another season of Kopitar skating around the perimeter preferring to shove the puck up his own ass to shooting it I might just lose my mind.

85% of the time he takes it deep but instead of getting it to the net (since no one not named Grundstrom knows how to drive the net) he shovels it back out to the point for a shot that never makes it through.

You’re really only getting a steal like that with a European draftee. European players are just scouted less, even in 2019.

I said awhile ago I thought Broberg was going to be a great player, and he likely won’t go until the late teens. If he was Canadian, there’d be a lot of debate around Byram vs. Broberg.

Same thing with Podkolzin. I really mean it when I say scouts in the know consider him right up there with Hughes/Kakko.

Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s any other European player we could possibly steal at #5. Maybe at the Toronto pick, though.

I disliked the pick last year (I was wrong), but Blake chose Kupari over Veleno when most considered Veleno an upper echelon talent. Turns out, Kupari was a great pick and took a huge step forward this season.

European players are the way to go if you want to steal. Every NA player with a lick of talent is basically already sniffed out by draft day.

Cozens would be our best bet i would think, if Blake really wants to draft a C...

4. Dylan Cozens, C, Lethbridge Hurricanes (WHL), 6-foot-3, 181 pounds: With the disappointment of an early and unexpected playoff exit, Cozens has a second life at the U18 worlds.

6. Alex Turcotte, C, USNTDP, 5-foot-11, 189 pounds: The best projected two-way game in this draft class. Has been hampered by injuries.

At #5, I don't think Cozens will last that long. I'm thinking our best choice is going to be Dach.
