Gents, just wanted to stop by and say you deserved a top 3 pick way more than we did. You deserved it a **** ton more that Chicago ever will. **** that system.

Deserve's got nothing to do with it.

It's like endlessly complaining about refs blowing a specific call. It's like complaining about the point system. It's like complaining about the playoff format. At the beginning of the season, everyone knows what the rules are. Refs are going to miss calls. Some team is going to inch its way into the playoff because of an incorrectly labeled loser point. You play who you play in the playoffs, deal with it.

If a given system changes at some point, so be it. If there are problems, bring them up when something can be done about it. Currently, it is what it is, and you just have to accept the results. Plenty of good players have been taken 5th, and plenty of players taken 2nd have failed. The best player in this draft could end up being the 43rd pick.

I just knew we'd inherit Vancouver's bad luck.

I hope we don't draft the next Thomas Hickey. An embarrassing season and in the end it was good for nothing? My hope is a future star at 5th (duh) + Spencer Knight with the Toronto pick.

But oh well, you could do worse. Colorado has now twice fallen from 1st to 4th.

Alright. Who you got at 43?

I listened to Yanetti last night too, and it was telling that he wasn't thrilled when the Kings drafted for need. Sheer will and determination can sometime project guys higher in their careers and make them NHL mainstays. Sure you have to have a solid skill set, but with younger players you are only seeing the beginning of a maturation process. Slotting draft picks for roster spots the next year is kind of crazy because the players that can do that and be successful are the 1% of the 1%.

I usually agree with you, but the chance at drafting a potentially franchise altering player is really not the same as a ref blowing a call.

The current system is wildly chaotic. A team should not be able to jump nine spots into the top three based purely on RNG. That’s just ridiculous.

They need to increase the odds of the bottom five teams. Or get rid of the system altogether and go back to a lottery for the first overall alone.

Do you have a link to the Yannetti interview?

I just keep feeling that Byram is the best of a good but not great group of Dman and I would rather have a guy like Dach, Turcotte or Cozens since we really have a dearth of scorers and I think that we can get a decent Dman with our 2nd first rounder if need be.
He is rated there because of skills.

26 goals and not just an offensive player. More than decent size too.

You have said this a couple of times. You think scouting services rate him so high, just because the crop of defensemen isnt very good this year or what am I missing ?

I would understand you if they rated forwards and defensemen separately. Now I dont understand it.

Gross.

Consensus was Dach was killing last night. Dont know much about either Cozens or Datch though. I need to start doing some home work on both since its likely we take one of them.
Saw a lot of Dach the last week.

I dont think his shot is that good and IMO he scores a lot of garbage goals because of his excellent reach and strength. Which is more difficult in the NHL. Skating is good but not very good.

I dont see Vilardi like passes. Assists with a wow factor.

No I am not sold.

I have been doing a lot of research on him and I think that he is a solid player. I feel that overall, the Dmen class is good but not elite and he is the best of a good class. Most projections have him as a top 2 but not a #1. I will not be angry if the Kings draft him at all. Most likely, we can get a good Defenseman with our next pick though.

I feel that the next tier of Dmen are all clustered up and if they don't go in rapid succession, one of them will be there at our 2nd first round pick. The Forwards seem to start really dropping off once you get out of the top 1/3 of the draft.

Oh wow, Burke went on an epic rant about the draft lottery results on Sportsnet! ****ing beautiful! He's furious about NJ gets the 2 top picks in 3 year, and the Hawks moving up 12 places! I swear there was steam coming out of his ears!

ya heard a bit...I hate Burke, but for once I agree, not because it affected the kings, just makes no sense, a team slides up 12 spots
The draft serves to help weaker teams

Just hoping someone takes Cozens before us yet alone let Podkolzin drop to us. Honestly getting top 2 would have been nice yet preference separates 4-10. Happy with most all the pieces, but would be most disappointed of the choices if we went with Cozens yet alone if one of Dach, Turcotte, or Zegras were still there, which is guaranteed. I'd not remotely be opposed to drafting Byram if there at 5 and going forwards with the next two picks.
