Sounds like you're a secret anti-semite? But that'd be just a coincidence, eh?

no, you'd love to paint me with that brush wouldn't you

but those guys are polish soviets, nothing to do with semitism thanks for the good old tricks bud, try again!

So I am officially on the "Gold Plan" side for the draft order. Teams that rack up the most points after being mathematically eliminated from the playoffs should get the top picks. If there is a tie, it goes to the team with the worst record.

This style of draft sucks. Who cares about tanking. In the end, teams need to win to be good. Just look at Edmonton and see tanking doesn't even work.

great

just what we need in the smaller, faster NHL

Don't people want Blake to be a visionary? Build your own thing, don't just follow the pack?

It doesn't matter how small the NHL gets, all things but size being equal, every GM wants the big talented guy that can still skate.

Even Hoven saying their plan is two years of Top 5 picks and then playoffs is pretty aggressive.

that's just more clinging onto the "kopitar, carter, quick and doughty can still lead us to the promised land" crap

half-measures got us here..

Hmm, Wikipdia shows Bettman is from Queens - not Poland or the USSR.

Also from Queens. Great band.

Mark Yannetti Kings Lead Director of Scouting in currently talking on radio about the draft.

Said whoever is available at 5 will probably need at least a year or two of development. He also says he does like players with size.

If the pick is going to be 2 years away anyways...just draft Podzolkin the Russian. He's more talented than the other guys and is not coming over for 2 years anyways

Cozens would be our best bet i would think, if Blake really wants to draft a C...

4. Dylan Cozens, C, Lethbridge Hurricanes (WHL), 6-foot-3, 181 pounds: With the disappointment of an early and unexpected playoff exit, Cozens has a second life at the U18 worlds.

6. Alex Turcotte, C, USNTDP, 5-foot-11, 189 pounds: The best projected two-way game in this draft class. Has been hampered by injuries.

If Hoven is correct and it is the actual plan, it relies on these guys thinking they were nabbing Hughes/Kakko and that Vilardi is a real thing.

Definitely relies on Kopitar and Doughty still, not so much Carter and Quick. I think that some of the bad contracts are gone by that 3rd year so they might possibly be in a position to sign a UFA or make a trade.

I get it that you have to have goals, but it seems unlikely.

Should teams then not trade UFA's for picks at the deadline? If a guy is hurt, should teams somehow force him to play the rest of that season instead of getting needed surgery, so they can get a better pick?

or how about reverting back to how it was... most teams weren't tanking or no one was considering it an issue until the whole Edmonton fiasco

It was an issue during the Mario Lemieux draft year. That was a real shit show between the Pens and Devils.

It was comical at times the lengths they went to lose. I think at one point the Pens called up their minor league backup goalie to start a few games at the end of the year,

If there's a player like McDavid in the draft though then everyone's going to purposely tank.

Podkolzin has stated he wants to stay in Russia until he’s ready to play in the NHL. He has made it clear he doesn’t want to play in the CHL but he may not be crossing the pond to play in the AHL either. Some people could get scared by those comments but I’m not really concerned. He has two years remaining on his contract with SKA, and I believe he’s ready to jump straight to the NHL after that contract is over. Anyone drafting him should be prepared to wait two years before seeing him in the NHL. Perhaps that pushes him down a few spots on draft boards but there are no guarantees the other prospects in the same range are ready to play in the NHL sooner than that.

If Podkolzin is NHL ready at age 20 – as I suspect he will be – but refuses to cross the pond at that point, then I’m starting to get worried. But I’ll cross that bridge if I have to. Top prospects like him don’t usually stay in Russia no matter how much money rich teams like SKA throw at them. They want to play in the NHL, so they usually get there at some point

doesn't it sound VERY risky though?

I don't mind the draft system in theory, even though we got the short end today. Maybe just fine-tune the percentages and weight it more towards the truly dreadful teams.

what about bottom three teams in the lotto, all with equal chance to win. everyone else in their regular position

Sure. I dont care. Teams can do what they want. But most teams are going to want to win to make the playoffs or get a better draft selection.

Change Vasily's mind,

1. Sign Prokhorkin and bring him over now.
2. Train with Kovalchuk and do the Kovalbeast workout regimen, of dragging monolithic 2 ton stones.
3. Then both of them go to Russia on a mission from God and convince Podkolzin to come over.
4. He agrees to take a trip to Beverly Hills and drive Ilya's ILL Rolls Royce. And also stay at the beach.
5. Podkolzin changes life plans to come to LA.
6. Podkolzin tells Chicago and Colorado "I will never come to play on your team...ever..nyet!!!"
7. Podkolzin falls to #5 and Kings select him. Podkolzin comes to LA for rookie camp.
8. Rookie Camp - Vilardi is healthy and there. Kupari is there, Podkolzin, Anderson,
Durzi, Thomas, Phillips, Lizotte, JAD, Dudas, Thomasino (the TOR pick) and Vlasic (33rd overall)
This group is better than the 2018-19 Kings!

Here's the order of picks I'd want at 5:
Byram
Dach/Turcotte
Cozens/Podkolzin
As nervous as Podkolzin's comments have made me he looks like he'll be a great Player, I think it depends on his combine interviews

Even though it sucks to have fallen 3 spots, I still prefer this system over the guaranteed pick for **** teams
