My main issue with Blais is that he doesn't kill penalties. So he's gonna be looking at like 10 minutes a game maximum here.

NYR need some of these forwards to become regular PKers. Goodrow and Rooney obviously will be involved, but Barron, Gauthier, Kravtsov, Kakko, Laf have little to no PK experience at this level. Right now with Buch, Howden, Blackwell gone you have

Zibby-Goodrow
Rooney-????
Strome-????

With Strome possibly on the way out.

I want to see Kakko and Barron implemented in the kill this season at the very least.
They are going to have to step up. No one thought Buch would be a good PK fwd til he was tried

This whole weekend has a COMPLETELY different feel if Drury just holds out for a 1st rather than a 2nd in the Buch deal.

Have no idea what the rush was to get that done. Not like it impacted this year's draft or another deal followed right on its heels or anything.
My guess is we were on the cusp of an Eichel deal that fell thru again

Just remember fellas, everybody’s greatest, infallible GM couldn’t find $2M per year for Fast but found $1M+ for Jack Johnson. My point is let’s give Drury a chance. This isn’t NHL 21. There are many factors and variables into making a trade. Even Reinhart netted a late 1st and Florida’s 10th best prospect, a goalie. Rangers chose an effective, Cup winning bottom-six guy that showed an improvement offensively this year and can play his role effectively. We all loved Buchnevich, but we all knew some hard decisions would eventually be made along the way when they netted Fox, signed Panarin, and then hit on two top-2 selections. That’s the cap world. As far as the picks, I liked what Drury did. The only pick that some critics question is the Jayden Grubbe one. However, we have to see how all of this shapes up. Everybody gave Gorton a shot, Drury deserves his.

I think the previous GM did a great job hitting on the first rounders outside of Andersson and I'm not even sure what happened there, i think the kid got caught up in the hype, got injured, and things unraveled then.

he sucked from day one. We all knew he couldn’t skate at traverse city. Gordie Clark looked like he saw a ghost after that tournament talking about Andersson

If Eichel and his team really wanted to get this trade done he’d be a lot more public about his requests and just making things even more uncomfortable than they already are

That’s probably the next step for them as Buffalo seems to be content just waiting it out

I gotta give Buffalos GM credit though, the two trades he made they made out pretty decent
It will be resolved before camp. Imagine the circus of him publicly stripping him of the captaincy. And Eichel not putting on a Sabre Jersey again. It will only further damage his value imo

Also, this is a question from someone who hasn’t seen a ton of Eichel’s play.

Is Eichel honestly a franchise center as Buffalo fans are claiming?

I see a very good center with good advanced stats, but not McDavid or Crosby.

yes, when healthy and motivated he’s a 1 man show. Amazing talent. Fast, above average shot, excellent passer, and not bad defensively either. Has panarin like game breaking ability

Was his foot an issue then though? He wasn't out of place at world juniors, i just feel the foot might have been a problem then too. It didnt turn out well either way but the rest of the first round picks were pretty good and we even traded up to grab Miller.

Rangers' Mika Zibanejad-Jack Eichel conundrum may get awkward

We can report that there have been preliminary discussions between Drury and Zibanejad’s agent, Monir Kalgoum, who happens to be the center’s brother. Our best information at this point is that Zibanejad is seeking a deal that would be at least commensurate with the one under which Eichel is operating in Buffalo. That would entail a commitment of $10 million per year.

The Rangers are believed to want to hold the contract to five or six years. The player is believed to be asking for seven or eight years.

do we sign Fox to the $9M extension now? Between Makar and Jones, feels like that is the market value we're gonna have to swallow. Just no NTC please. He wouldn't get traded anways but i really hate having those these days. Like is there a discount you take for having one included? Maybe there's some math behind the inclusion of NTCs that i don't know about. We have to start getting our long term contract puzzle figured out. Doing a bridge deal with Fox seems like a mistake.

They honestly cannot bridge him. It'd be a huge insult to him and his reps. 9M was my thought too.

If he wants $10m I trade him now

You absolutely sign fox to an 8 year 9m deal asap, if you leave it til the cap starts creeping we will be looking at 11 or 12 because when the cap starts moving its gonna jump big time imo.

I can’t believe people think he’s gonna sign under market cause he loves NY so much. I’d trade him for Eichel in a NY minute, maybe a 3 way with Minn if he’ll waive. Or Vegas ??
Zibby at 9.5 for 7 years will him giving us the hometown discount. No thanks to him or strome for that long

They let that Swedish scout who announced the pick and was retiring after that draft make the decision I’m guessing. Sucks it turned out that way.

Buffalo: Krebs, Tuch, NYR #1, VGS #1
Vegas: Zib, Jones, Geo
Rangers : Eichel, Fluery

Zibanejad @ 10m a season for 7 or 8 years? Taking him to 35 or 36? That contract would be bad. Zibanejad has most likely already peaked. I want to extend him but not at top dollar.

Plus all the talk about Eichel’s injuries, but Mika has concussion concerns. Eichel at 10m AAV for 5 years with his deal ending at 30 would be far far better than Mika at 10m AAV with his deal ending at 36. With Eichel we’d get his entire prime.

I still just don't understand how no one seemed to understand the skating thing pre draft. Or did they just think it would naturally progress better but it never did?
