so the need to buy deangelo cost us RatySo the need to re-sign deangelo cost us raty =/
I think Fox will take 8 years. He probably does the "market value" amount which Makar probably set lower since he only took 1 UFA year.
I'd like Mika re-signed but I let him walk at those numbers. Cap is an asset and we trade for help. He won't get that anywhere. Someone will shake loose or he withers when you call his bluff.
He agent/brother was 7-8 years 9-10 mill perbeen out all day did numbers leak and i miss it?
Plus risk of injury. Which prob would make him play even softerOkay? And you approach him about it. I prefer to have Zibanejad around, but if he wants more than we want to pay then we should explore moving him. I think those conversations should take place now, in the offseason. Make it clear that he wont be getting the number he expects no matter what so he can either accept a trade somewhere now OR play a full year forcing the rangers to self-rent him before hitting free agency. That’s not exactly fruitful for him, the pressure of having to perform over the whole year for the next contract doesnt seem like it would be preferred. He probably would rather accept a trade to someone willing to sign him to an extension with longterm security.
Are we letting Zibs walk because no way we can afford to keep both and then have enough flexibility to sign Fox at $9M and have cap for Kakko, Laf, Kravy down the road. He's not going to Buffalo because 1) NTC, 2) they won't want a pending UFA and he's not signing an extension with BUF. Unless they can use him to pull a Duchene-like trade. He would fetch a good package at the TDL but not sure Buffalo wants to risk that because Zibs could have a bad season and they'd have to sell low. 3) also NTCIs there any way to keep Mika and trade for Eichel, or is that a complete non-starter?

It's not possible for them to carry two 10 million dollar contracts. Not going to work.
I'm confident that a deal will get done. Rangers' offer is probably 5-6 years at 8 to 8.5 million. Zib wants 7-8 years and $10 million. That's not a totally huge chasm. He'll come in at the Rangers' ask for years but a bit above their initial offer.Rangers' Mika Zibanejad-Jack Eichel conundrum may get awkward
We can report that there have been preliminary discussions between Drury and Zibanejad’s agent, Monir Kalgoum, who happens to be the center’s brother. Our best information at this point is that Zibanejad is seeking a deal that would be at least commensurate with the one under which Eichel is operating in Buffalo. That would entail a commitment of $10 million per year.
The Rangers are believed to want to hold the contract to five or six years. The player is believed to be asking for seven or eight years.
It would be 3 $10mm + contracts lol
NBA players leave money on the table all the time for the "superteam" thing. Maybe they can get the big fish Mika/Foxy and their agents together and come to an agreement, then the next column from the New York sports state media can be about how cool the stars are and how smart Drury is.It's not possible for them to carry two 10 million dollar contracts. Often have career years? Did Taylor Hall have a career year this past season? What about the one before it. Thats just one player providing two examples in back to back years. Not fruitful? Players often have career years looking for their new contract. He's going to have a monster year here and move on to whomever pays him.
Personally I think anyone believing Zibanejad is signing for 5 years is out to lunch
I don’t think he’s getting 8 years 10 million either tho
I could See a 8.5-9 million 7 year deal
That’s probably a compromise both could live with
I'd rather go up on salary a bit if it means keeping the term shorter. His injury history and play the first 25 games of this season do not give him leverage to demand 7 or 8 years.I honestly don't feel comfortable with those numbers either.
