You absolutely sign fox to an 8 year 9m deal asap, if you leave it til the cap starts creeping we will be looking at 11 or 12 because when the cap starts moving its gonna jump big time imo.

makar got 9. I think fox gets 9.5 for 8 years and that’s because he loves it here and doesn’t want to go anywhere else. Realistically it would be more. We’re buying his most significant UFA years

I'm not trying to harp on the Buchnevich trade. Just legitimately wondering what Drury had/has planned for the cap space. He didn't make the trade right before the draft for that package just to open up playing time.

And to be clear, I'd be ok with something not panning out because it just didn't line up. Hopefully we get something from back channels to help illuminate the decision making.

Zibanejad at $10 million per year is just too much. He always has something happening that doesnt see him play a full season. And no Covid isnt his fault, but it doesnt help that he isnt exactly young anymore. He is making $5.350 AAV right now. I offer $8.5 over 5-6 years. If its not enough then move him.

3 way deal: This could work
Buffalo: Kravstov, Jones, Chytil, NYR (2022 1st), Vegas (2022 1st), Nolan Patrick (From NYR for Mika), Reilly Smith (Vegas cap dump)
Vegas: Zibanejad
Rangers: Eichel

Blake Coleman.

Nick Foligno would be option B

And maybe a 4C such as Bonino or Stepan. But they would be cheap. Krejci, Getzlaf, and more will be there. Cheap 4C veteran leadership.

Agree with you. But that ain’t gonna get it done. This is his retirement contract and of course he has a freaking NMC. A 3-way to get Eichel here would be my choice if he waives

Too much from us. All that on top of Mika?? Why

To Vegas - Zibanejad

to NYR-Eichel

to Buffalo- Krebs, Another Vegas prospect LV 1st, NYR 1st,

Something more along these lines. The wild,NYR,Sabres could pull it off as well. Maybe Montreal too, with Zibby going there?

We are in a mess at center. Zib isn't worth 10 mill long term, not close because he has concussion issues that obviously made him perimeter player last season, i don't blame him for that but he can't walk in looking for 2019-20 money when you are scared to play like that anymore. I don't have a solution because he has the ntc but this is a shitty situation if thats his ask. Imo he gets a 5x8 deal no more but ofcourse it would suck to lose him for nothing. Which is why I've been beating the drum to aquire young centers for the last three years either through draft or trade.

Considering his NMC, if we don't reach agreement with Zibanejad the odds are he walks for nothing.

Wouldn't that be swell.

Zibanejad @ 10m a season for 7 or 8 years? Taking him to 35 or 36? That contract would be bad. Zibanejad has most likely already peaked. I want to extend him but not at top dollar.

Plus all the talk about Eichel’s injuries, but Mika has concussion concerns. Eichel at 10m AAV for 5 years with his deal ending at 30 would be far far better than Mika at 10m AAV with his deal ending at 36. With Eichel we’d get his entire prime.

The contract is better considering Eichel's age but you would still have to give up 3 or 4 pieces to get him. What do you do with Zibs if you can't trade him? Let him walk for nothing?

Just a question.....what would it take to get Barrett Hayton from Arizona? Thats my guy, get him, its a good insurance policy that allows you to walk away when zib asks for 70 or 80 mill.

Uh no. Not giving up Zib plus all of that.

you’re trading Zibanejad for a 10 point player and a cap dump.

think he would waive for Minn, Vegas, and Montreal if the 3rd team in question plans on extending him. It’s possible

to NY- Eichel
To habs-Zibby
To Buff
Kotkaniemi, MTL1st, NY 1St,roster player

To NYR - Eichel
Minn-Zibanejad
Buffalo- Rossi/Boldy, Minn1st, NYR 1st, roster player

??

Okay? And you approach him about it. I prefer to have Zibanejad around, but if he wants more than we want to pay then we should explore moving him. I think those conversations should take place now, in the offseason. Make it clear that he wont be getting the number he expects no matter what so he can either accept a trade somewhere now OR play a full year forcing the rangers to self-rent him before hitting free agency. That’s not exactly fruitful for him, the pressure of having to perform over the whole year for the next contract doesnt seem like it would be preferred. He probably would rather accept a trade to someone willing to sign him to an extension with longterm security.

I think Fox will take 8 years. He probably does the "market value" amount which Makar probably set lower since he only took 1 UFA year.

I'd like Mika re-signed but I let him walk at those numbers. Cap is an asset and we trade for help. He won't get that anywhere. Someone will shake loose or he withers when you call his bluff.
