If Josi gets 2 more points he would be 6th all time in most points in a season by dman (Orr 139p, Coffey 138p, Macinnis 103p, Leetch 102p, Potvin 101p). He is currently 8th (Housley 97p, Bourque 96p). Bourque had more goals so Josi will need to get to 97 to pass him. Josi has more goals than Housley so that's why 2 points would get him past these two.

Already a Hart worthy season in my opinion.

It has to be between Gaudreau and Josi at this point. McDavid will win many times anyways and the Leafs are just as good without Matthew's.

Copium. you know you are not arguing with the poster you quoted but to the hockey experts that he quoted?

You are not a hockey expert last I checked. Nobody is quoting you in articles...last I checked. You are just a voice on these boards who's currently suffering from copium. Last I checked.

It's very likely a Toronto Maple Leaf is going to win the Hart this year. I know, I know...that sucks. No Toronto Maple Leaf deserves to win anything at anytime because their fan base pisses you off but here we are.

Copium.

That's mostly to do with the scoring exploding this year.

Josi is sitting 12th in points. It's not even close to as impressive as Karlsson finishing 4th in points while leading the league in assists.

The argument against Karlsson was that he wasn't great in the D-zone. Same can't be said about Josi. He is the by far the biggest reason Nashville even made it to the playoffs this season. And isn't this throphy about that, the most valuable to his team. It has to be Josi.

Did it ever cross your mind that having to go back 32 years to find a similar scenario to Matthews/McDavid where the former comes out on top in the Hart race probably is a sign that it’s not likely? Not once?
What part of dead puck era almost completely eliminating the likelihood of a player scoring 120+ points do you not understand? All we can do is compare the circumstances and the results where players have hit that mark. Did it not cross your mind that past precedence can be used to explain future behavior? No? Well that's generally how the world works.

There's been 13 seasons since 1988-89 where the Art Ross winner had 120 or more points, they went on to win the Hart in less than half of those seasons. I don't know about you but 6 out of 13 does not sound all that reaffirming to me.

Wait.....how can that be true for the greatest defensive centerman of all time who is also the greatest sniper of all time?

All jokes aside it's quite bizarre that McDavid having lots of EN points is somehow a negative lol. It means he's on the ice defending a lead, something that Matthews doesn't seem to be trusted with.

Odd innit?

He's allegedly miles ahead of McD defensively.....yet is rarely on the ice to close out games. Something doesn't add up

Edit......Matthews also has the fewest d-zone starts in his team lol.

So not trusted to close out games and not trusted to start in his own zone lol. Maybe hardly ever starting in his own zone is why people think he's a Selke level forward, easy to look good defensively when you never start in your own zone.

There's also that whole 5v5 goals against thing and HDSC thing to consider 😅😅😅
Matthews has more defensive zone faceoffs than McDavid. I'm not getting in on who I think should win; but, had to point out how idiotic your attempt at an argument is here.

Im not saying one way or another who should win either because I think they’re both deserving. But honest to god. It shouldn’t be that easy for someone to debunk peoples shitty arguments.

The hot takes in here are unreal.

Gaudreau has been ridiculous this year and has to be the favourite. Tied for 2nd in scoring overall. First in ESP. First in P/60. 40 goals now. +65!!!!!

Yes it's nice to lead the league in goals. But what Johnny Hockey is doing is unreal.

I have Barkov in front of Hube and Makar in front of Josi
I do have Shesty at #1 probably, with Matthews 2

Gaudreau is having an incredible season but in the end is 4 goals and 8 points behind McDavid, who has played 1 less game and plays with significantly worse linemates this year. Johnny’s season is Hart worthy in most years, but McDavid simply deserves to win it this year as he has yet again proven that he is the best player in the world this season.

Really? Who does Mcdavid play with on the Powerplay - a category he leads the league in?

Mcdavid is 7th in P/60. Mcdavid averages about 45 seconds more of PP time per game than Gaudreau. This equals 60 more minutes of PP time over 80 games.

Gaudreau's season is far more impressive in my opinion.

Whoever wins the Hart should send Jesse Puljujarvi a gift, he likely lost McDavid at least an extra 10 point spread in the scoring race. He almost lost McDavid the Art Ross as well but got sick for a few games just in time and McDavid turned it up. Love old stone hands Puljujarvi though.

I really don't think voters (or very many of them anyways) care about P/60 or how much ice time guys are getting. They're looking at the actual, tangible results. There is definitely a case for Gaudreau, I just don't think what you put is the way the normal voter is looking at it.
