Do you actually understand just how stupid NHL players are?

I'm sure you know more about playing hockey than NHL hockey players...

One page back a Leafs fan uses Matthews' supposed worship from his peers as a justification for him winning the Hart, and now quickly the goal posts have moved lol.

So a guy that missed a lot of games, plays less minutes than everyone else yet still has 13 more EV GA than McDavid (and 1 more than defensive superstar playing on a godlike defensive team Phil Kessel) and we're supposed to believe he's some sort of defensive stalwart and 5v5 defense god? Okaaaay buddy

Matthews doesn't even kill penalties... how could he be considered the league's most complete player.
Marner is a much more appropriate candidate.

A horribly low on ice save % will do that which is entirely from the last 4 months. Before that low and behold his goals against numbers were similar to Barkov dating back to 2019.

Unreal to see Matthews hit 60, but it's still gonna be McDavid that wins... his season has been unbelievable

Crazy to see how many players from Canadian teams are in the top 10 of scoring in the league.. 7 of the top 10?? Bizzare

Lol, you think this poll has any indication about the Lindsay winner?. Just take a look at the past polls and who ended up as the Lindsay winner.

Case in point: 2019 - Kucherov only had 2.8% of the votes in best forward poll that year while McDavid dominated with almost 70% of the votes. Guess who won the Lindsay?

I don't care if he wins the Hart or not.
Matthews is the 1st player to hit 60 goals in a season since 2011-2012
and the 1st to score 50 goals in a 50 game stretch since Mario Lemieux in 1995-1996 season.

He's a great f***ing player.
I'm Happy for him to be the 1st to hit 60 in 10 years and 1st to hit 50 in 50 in 26 years.

Also it's his takeaway to giveaway ratio that stands out which is the most important part.

At 5v5

Matthews - 80 takeaways 39 giveaways 53 blocked shots 70.77 xGF 39.96xGA 193 HDCA .885oiSV%

McDavid - 65 takeaways 47 giveaways 25 blocked shots 76.73xGF 52.65xGA 243 HDCA .923oiSV%

It's pretty obvious who the better two-way player is even if McDavid has improved the defensive part of his game this season.
I guarantee you if Matthews didn't play with Marner his giveaway-takeaway ratio would be significantly less flattering, as he would be looked at to carry the puck more. McDavid spends a ton of time with the puck, meaning his giveaway total will be inflated.

The other thing is McDavid spends 90% of his time in the offensive zone. That's what makes him an elite two-way player, not his defensive game per se. As the saying goes, the best defense is a great offense.

Boom,

NHL players have spoken and they don't see Matthews as even close to being a Hart winner.

Nice shot tho.
Seeing how the NHL players don't actually vote on it, I don't think it really matters. Crosby won that poll last year and he didn't get the Hart.

It should be an interesting race, but I suspect Matthews will end up winning it.

I wouldn't use that as an example, its a terrible list. I am actually blown away how bad it is
So according to you we should disregard NHL players opinions, the same guys who have to play against both McDavid and Matthews because a Leaf fan with no bias whatsoever /s claims it's terrible. Well of course it's terrible for you, because it not only doesn't fit your narrative, but also because it's opinions from the most credible source, the players themselves who actually experience playing against these guys first hand.

But ok, some rando on a forum says it's terrible, so that guys opinion definitely has more weight.

did you actually look at it? Price #2? McDavid in the rankings for best 2 way player?
Its clear the players didn't take this seriously

Of course, the mass of voters don't take the award 100% literally, or Wayne Gretzky would never have won it over Dale Hawerchuk.

On the other hand, you can't argue that voters don't take importance to team into consideration. (See: Taylor Hall's Hart.)

Hall was never the best player, even in one season.
Was Messier better than Gretzky and Lemieux twice?
Brett Hull wasn't the best player in 1991.
Theodore wasn't the best player in the League, ever. Nor was Price (in my opinion).
I think the fact that those are the extent of your examples proves my point
