I don’t think you understand what “objective” means.
"(of a person or their judgment) not influenced by personal feelings or opinions in considering and representing facts."

Which facts support your case? I don't accept JFresh analytics as objective facts

Among forwards, I would give Matthews an edge over Huberdeau and Gaudreau who are neck in neck, all things considered.

McDavid and Drai may cancel each other out if one of them, most likely McDavid, doesn't get ahead by ten points or so or together they move well ahead of the pack. The Oilers squeaking into the playoffs may influence voters too vs. the much better Panthers and Flames.

Gaudreau is Top 5 in scoring, PPG and #1 in plus/minus on a Top 5 team in the NHL.

Matthews is T1 in goals, #1 in GPG, while being Top 10 in scoring and PPG.
Gaudreau's 3rd in scoring which is a good argument, however the only time a forward has won the Hart finishing 3rd in scoring or lower in the 2000s are Taylor Hall and Corey Perry who both had way more points than their nearest teammate. Tkachuk is 5th in scoring.

Matthews is putting up a ton of goals but it looks like at the very best he's going to finish 5th in scoring. Giving the Hart trophy to a forward who finishes 5th in scoring never happens so him winning would be something that has never happened before (it might happen because of the Toronto bias).

Neither are finalists if the season ended today.

I dont understand.

Surely the Hart is for the most valuable player to their team. Not who has the most goals or most points.

What Shesterkin has done and the amount of games he has stolen with the trash defence he has infront of him is the true definition of MVP to a team.

Every team has their own individual MVP but a goalie who has been a freak of nature and near enough single handidly brought a mid-level team to the play offs in the toughest division in the league surely deserves a little more praise.

If you are using historical Hart voting patterns as your argument, then McDrai may cancel each other out or not make the playoffs which moves everyone else up two spots in the scoring race.

That being said, both Matthews and Gaudreau are Top 5 forwards regardless of how Hart voting goes.

Ya I mean I think it's probably the best metric for a subjective award like this?

I have Matthews in my top 5 forwards but not Gaudreau

Trash defense? Come on lol.

Matthews should need to win the Rocket by at least 5 goals to be in the convo. I don’t see an argument for him over Shesterkin, Josi or McDavid otherwise.

What metrics are you using to exclude Gaudreau from a top 5? if it ended today one has think the voters would see #3 in scoring, #1 in ES points(by a tonne), #1 in +/-(by a tonne), #1 in PA and #2 in GWG.

Lets hear it :skeptic:
I was meaning who I think are the top 5 forwards in the league, because I thought that's what the poster said. Gaudreau is certainly deserving of top 5 MVP voting from forwards this year.

If someone else was having the season McDavid is having they’d probably be a top 2 candidate if we’re being honest with ourselves. He’s going to win the Art Ross and lead his team to a playoff spot, I don’t see how another forward can be definitively ahead of him? Maybe if Matthews scores 60

Even with 60, Matthews needs to finish top 3 in scoring (likely top 2 because of Marner's point totals) to even be in the discussion. Matthews either needs 65G+ AND top 3 scoring or 70G+ AND top 5 scoring.

I’m personally not disagreeing with you, but the Hart Trophy odds currently disagree with your parameters as Matthews is still the odds on favourite

McDavid, Huberdeau, Gaudreau, Shesterkin, Josi and Draisaitl all are having seasons that are more Hart worthy than Matthews. He has absolutely no chance to win it unless he closes the gap significantly.

Plus: lapping the field in points 5v5. That is the most impressive stat. Complete 200 foot game too.

I'd hammer that line. I refuse to believe the voting could be that biased.
