Matthews gives up more 5 v 5 goals against than almost any forward.

This ”elite defensively” nonsense is a meme at this point.

McDavid has been the better player this season and is a better hockey player overall.

45 multi point games for McDavid is the most since Jagr in 1995-96.

McDavid likely wins his 4th Art Ross at age 25. Joins only Gretzky and Howe in that group.

It's almost like having to carry around two 4th line players is detrimental to a player's production.

Seruiosuly have you even looked up his leinemates from last year to this year?

Sure Monahan has regressed a ton due to injuries but Johnny was crap for most of the time since his 99 point season.

I don't understand why both fanbases can't celebrate both players for how amazing they are? Awards are inconsequential. They don't matter.

I say that as a Pens fan who loved both Crosby and OVI and enjoyed every second of watching both of their careers.

Don't be a Neanderthal, just enjoy hockey. Careers go by quickly.

Umm... why don't you provide the stats since you are trying to rebuttal.

btw... at the same time look at the amount of PPs handed freely to McDrai compared to Matthews too
Draisaitl is in on nearly the same percentage of McDavid's points as Marner is on Matthew's points. But they don't play together.

Monahan was a 4th line caliber player the last 2 years. Literally healthy scratch worthy.

So maybe having to carry around him + Ritchie / Leivo / Simon for the first 40 games of the season wasn't great.

27 points in those first 40 games, then 22 in the final 16 once he got away from Monahan.

Anybody with functioning eyeballs knows that Monahan was holding him back.

Meanwhile Gaudreau helps set up the last second tying goal and GWG.

113 points
88 ES points (most in 26 years)
+63 (highest in 36 years)

Best Hart race in years.

Anyone with functioning eyeballs would also know that Tkachuk and Lindholm are excellent players, nevermind Hanifin and Andersson who just happen to play alot with that top line.

McDavid is winning the Hart this year or AM, it is what it is.

Who said they weren't? They're both legitimate first line players.

That winger was never close to sniffing 40 goals in a season and has a career high of 30 goals and 50-something points before playing with McDavid. I wonder why that is 🤔

kane was almost a ppg last year and was pacing for like 35 goals. Yes McDavid is making him better but the guy is a 7mill topflight winger. Lets not act like hes chop liver.

Matthews is 40th in assists
McDavid is 7th in goals

"Best player in the game" should be top 10 in both at least no?

Why get assist when you can just score yourself? Look at his second goal tonight. He flys around the zone using the whole ice then riffles it past the goalie. Dude doesn't have to pass to his dmen, he will just play every spot on the ice.

BTW idc who wins. But Matthews is more exciting to watch personally.

I think the point is that McDavid is producing far more with far less.

Even AM is overall as well.
Far less??

Evander Kane outscored both of Gaudreau's linemates last year.

Draisaitl and RNH on the PP (and often at ES) which he plays almost the entire period.

And Matthews has Marner and Bunting + Nylander and Tavares on the PP.

Why do we keep talking about last year?

Gaudreau's linemates this year are Tkachuk and Lindholm.

Kane and Yamamoto/Puljujarvi is far less than Lindholm and Tkachuk.

Matthews has this locked up but it could get interesting if Mcdavid gets 7 points in his last 2 games and reaches 130 points. Something no one has done since Lemieux in 96.
