What Matthews is doing is impressive, but he's glued to an 11 million dollar player.

McDavid has a greater % of his teams overall points while playing with worse linemates and is entirely more valuable to his team than Matthews is. Everyone knows it.

Its a coin toss at this point though due to Toronto media. Actually I'd say Matthews has the edge for that reason now that he's hit 60 goals. Its impressive but like someone already said, Stamkos didn't even win the Hart the year he scored 60.

I'm not being confrontational, I'd just like to see the stats that support this claim. Last I heard he was terrible defensively.
He's been a positive defensive player for the last two seasons by advanced stats.

Congrats to Matthews on 60. He probably wins the Hart because the Toronto media set the narrative weeks ago and aren’t going to let it go.

But the best player and the best season and the true MVP all McDavid.
I don't know, its soo subjective this year, some are going to prefer to sheer offensive domination of McDavid and some may prefer the goal scoring and 2 way game of Matthews. IMO their both right. For the 1st time in a long time since young sid and Ovi have 2 legit all time players who play different styles.

McDavid would be a deserving winner.

But maybe ask yourself why Gaudreau's numbers were lower last year. I think you know the answer.
Yes everyone knows the answer because he simply had an off down year and it was his second such performance in a row, heck the entire Flames team was a huge question mark going into this season.

You say that likes its a fact. Most would probably disagree.
Not sure about most but many would i guess. I think secondary assists have way too much impact on Hart Trophy especially when you're a forward. There's Art Ross for the assist hoarders already.

Matthews would sure look good in an Oilers uniform with that greasy moustache taking dishes from the homeless looking McDavid.... ;)

If McDavid was as bad defensively as HF would lead you to believe he'd have to be the best offensive player in the history of the league by a considerable margin considering how badly his team out scores/chances the opposing team when he's on the ice.

3rd Planet From Sun.
Malkin beat second place Stamkos in the Art Ross race by 13 points and won the Hart during Stamko's 60 goal season.

So some precedence has been set. I think they give it to Matthews anyway because Toronto.
Stamkos missed the playoffs that season which cost him votes. Matthews obviously isn’t going to miss the playoffs

Right - in this case, Matthews lead the Leafs to their best ever season. Very different narrative.

lol imagine thinking 15g > 30a

15g translates to 15 goals
30a translates to 30 goals

I mean a goal is definitely worth more in most people's minds than an assist. Not sure 2:1 is the right ratio though.

It's going to be a close vote for sure. Either choice is good - two fantastic seasons.

lets look at primary assists and its 16g to 21 assists, plus all this time we are not factoring ice time, McDavid gets way more Pp time and ice time in general.

Lindsay is awarded to the best player this year. I think fellow players will pick Matthews and it won’t even be close

But who knows..We shall see
The best player this season is Connor McDavid.

Best goal scorer is matthews

Notice how I said Goal scorer.

There's an award for that. Rocket Richard.

But he isn't on McDavid league at controlling the game.

As an Oilers fan I gotta give Matthews all the credit though. I think he's having a historical level season, although hurt a bit by missing the games. The counting numbers understate the dominance of both McDavid and Matthews this year, Matthews has had terrible goaltending taking credit away from his two-way game and McDavid's offensive numbers have been hurt by poor finishing of his linemates.

Being objective, these two are head and shoulders better than anybody else in the league right now.
