Since 2000:

Only 2 players have hit 60 goals - Stamkos and Ovechkin
Only 1 player has hit 60 goals and over 105 points.

Only 5 players have hit 120 points - Crosby, Jagr (x2), Kucherov and Thornton
Only 4- have hit 121
Only 3 have combined it with 40+ goals....

-------

Should be interesting to see how people vote.

I think realistically, it will come down to Matthews and McDavid.

Just my assessment of how the media is speaking and they are the ones that vote.

121 points will be hard to ignore, however if it weren't for the misnames the point gap would be closer to 5 then 15.

Really between Matthews, Mcdavid, and Johnny hockey. Huberdeau, Kaprizov, Shesty, Josi and Stammer deserve mentions. So much talent.

With no missed games, Matthews is sniffing around 120 right now and at 65 goals+ and the Hart would be his unanimously. But nah, too many missed games. McDavid at 122 now.

Malkin beat second place Stamkos in the Art Ross race by 13 points and won the Hart during Stamko's 60 goal season.

So some precedence has been set. I think they give it to Matthews anyway because Toronto.

Matthews might want to be top 3 in points before winning a Hart. He’s just another Hull and Bure. Enjoy your Richard and nothing else.

That's true.

But to be fair 60 goals in 73 games is outrageous. I think the games missed really hurt Matthews because the point gap would likely be 5-10 points if Matthews doesn't miss 8 games.

Both are 100% deserving, and it could go either way.

Tampa never made the playoffs that season. Automatic disqualification for Stamkos based on how they vote.

McDavid would have more than 150 points if he played the whole season with a linemate as good as Marner. In fact he would score that much with just a typical oish%.

50 assists? McDavid has a better chance at getting 50 goals this year than matthews hitting that
I put some extra points for McDavid too. The point still stands. ~15 more goals are worth way more than extra 30 assists. Mostly because of secondaries but even primary assists are worth way less than goals.

Congrats to Matthews on 60. He probably wins the Hart because the Toronto media set the narrative weeks ago and aren’t going to let it go.

But the best player and the best season and the true MVP all McDavid.
