Maybe Kopitar and Dean didn't win because of their planned speeches. You just know they would be along these lines..

"*filler* *filler* team *filler* teammates, *filler* *filler* group effort, *filler* *filler* we work for each other in that room. *filler* team, team, *filler* *filler* it's about looking at the guy next to you and knowing you battled for him *filler* *filler*"

These guys don't give a crap about the awards, to them it's about their team and family. They have bigger expectations and goals, mainly that big silver thing. It's why they win and why I love this group of players. Eventually some Kings will win these things, and hopefully it's because they have their names on the cup so many times that even east coast writers will take notice.

I'm not trying to defend Murray, although he did a good job (I probably would've chosen Bergevin or Lombardi though tbh), but the GM of the Year award is voted by the GMs, plus 5 execs, plus 5 media members, for those of you who don't know.

So basically what I'm saying: an award voted by NHL GMs is going to be flawed, because half the GMs in the league are borderline Pejorative Slured. If you're pissed, take it up with them.
I like this post.

Satan Duck, you aint half bad.

remember whenever west coast team or player wins something is a reputation award about point. They probably sound have win once or twice before. Bob has actually very very good job with the Ducks even though we don't like them and we are mad our GM didn't win.

If anything, their lack of recognition for these kind of awards may help with that us against the world mentality.

Hard to feel like underdogs in any other sense of the word lately :yo:

The award was created in 2010.

Well there you go. Quickly looking it up, I guess I was thinking of the executive of the year, which wasn't really official.

All these awards are subjective anyway. Even the more concrete ones. The President's trophy goes to the team with the best record in the league. Well, play an additional 10 games, or 30 games, or 20 fewer games, and that award might go to a different team. Even the Cup really. Play a best of 3, or best of 9 playoff series, and maybe the playoffs end up completely different.

Wonder if anyone will blame the refs.

Dustin Brown won a humanitarian award - Mark Messier leadership award to be exact. CBC did a overview on his contributions to the community. :yo:

And Brownie led his team to 3 WCF appearances and 2 cups in 3 years. His own teammates say he is the identity of the team.

Didn't 2 of the last few GM winners get fired within a year or 2 of winning? It's a jinx, I tell you, a jinx!

So the Bruins have the best defensive center, best goaltender, and 2nd best defenseman, and they still didn't have the fewest goals against.

Must be coaching, right?

Nope, Sutter wasn't even a Jack Adams finalist.

I wish we could see the location and papers in which these media members are voting from. Massachusetts must employ a ton of homers in their media.

Finalist? Sutter didn't even crack the top 15

I'm gonna say that's close enough to East Coast Biasâ„¢ and I'm gonna sue your ass.

My overall thoughts on the NHL Awards.

Shea Weber, Anze Kopitar, Brent Burns, Semyon Varlomov, PK Subban all robbed.

The host sucked too.

Well the only explanation then for the Kings success is that the team is well-rounded and perfectly put together, which means that Dean should win the...

Oh.....Right.

:dunno:
