I just remembered the Kings won the Cup, so it's all good. I'm sure even Lombardi doesn't really care.

Quick beats Hank once again.

Yeah but hank was the better goalie.

Because Rag fan says so that's why.

What exactly did Murray do to win gm of the year? I would have been totally fine with Bergevin given that he got the (at that moment in time) best available player for a 2nd rounder and a prospect. Murray got an injured Robidas and traded a guy who actually showed up in the playoffs without filling the top 6 hole that they already had.

Don't forget he re-signed Teemu! Yah!

Murray, further proof that the NHL "awards" are little more than a joke. Makes two terribad trades and his team loses in the 2nd round even though they were supposed to be the best team out of the west according to the same yammering simps that voted for him to win the award.

Face saving much?

Another year where the losers get the "atta boy" awards and the champions win the real thing. I promise you this, every player in the game knows who the best GM is, who the best coach is and who the best team was this year and we are all fans of that team.

When was the last time the coach of the year won the Stanley Cup?

Well said, boycotting these next year. I went out on a limb and I want those 2 hours of my life back :shakehead

Does anyone know how the conn smythe trophy voting went at all? I was curious how the voting ended up

I'm not trying to defend Murray, although he did a good job (I probably would've chosen Bergevin or Lombardi though tbh), but the GM of the Year award is voted by the GMs, plus 5 execs, plus 5 media members, for those of you who don't know.

So basically what I'm saying: an award voted by NHL GMs is going to be flawed, because half the GMs in the league are borderline Pejorative Slured. If you're pissed, take it up with them.

Mike Gillis got a vote. 'Nough said.

And that's why awards should be voted on when the season, yes playoffs are apart of the season, should be voted on. The landslide by Bergeron was a joke. Not to take anything away from Bergeron, but to win that convincly is a black eye on the NHL. Than for Lombardi to finish 3rd? When voting is done after the 2nd round, is even worse than the Bergeron landslide. This is up there with Stamkos being nominated for the Hart over Quick in 2012.
Oh well, go enjoy the trophy that really matters Kings. Everyone in the NHL is still looking up to you.

Joke awards. I give as much weight to their selections as I do to who wins polls from the main board here.

Anaheim GM of the year? For giving away Penner for nothing? Okay...

Let's all go back to celebrating our second Cup in three years. And the fact that we are contenders for years to come.

^Penner was absolute **** with us after the first two months, and Murray did pick up Robidas with the pick that Penner brought back, and Robidas played quite well before he got injured again in the first round. The thing that probably won Murray the award was the fact that he picked up Mathieu Perreault (our 2C for most of the year) for a 4th round pick and an AHL 4th liner. It's probably not as good as the Gaborik trade, but it was a real nice trade nevertheless.

Mike Gillis got a vote. 'Nough said.

haha. I don't know what's funnier, that, or the fact that last year's winner is already out of a job.

The award probably doesn't come down to what happens on trade deadline day.

Add everything Lombardi did, and the Kings still started out with probably the two worst performances, out of all the teams and games, in the playoffs this year against SJ. Then they go down 0-3 on top of that. With the voting for GM being after the 2nd round, maybe people felt the Kings were lucky to be there, considering how a team built for the playoffs started out in the playoffs. I don't know.

Lombardi got to drink from the Cup for a 2nd time. That's what will be remembered years from now. What is GM of the year going to do for the guy?

A question for anyone. Off the top of your head, do you remember who won GM of the year last year? 2 years ago? 10 years ago? Cup champs are easy to list though.

I don't know why these awards are taken seriously anyways, especially the ones voted on by hockey writers. I guarantee many people on this board watch more games than a lot of the writers.

Remember when Blake who was a minus player won the Norris over the greatest defenseman of his era?

The Gillis vote was nothing more than someone trying to make a statement. It was probably a friend of his who thought it was ridiculous that he was fired less than three years after going to Game 7 of the finals and two years after winning the Presidents Trophy. Not that I agree with that GM, but it's not like these guys are putting their hand on a bible before making the pick.

The only award I'm annoyed about is Selke because just about every metric other than FO% favored Kopitar. Bergeron won because he had his best goal scoring season in ages, which is completely ass backwards. The media rewarded him or that.

GM of the year and coach for that matter always goes to the individual whose team exceeds expectations. Just like in the NBA. Frankly, I was shocked Dean was even nominated. Babcock was right on in the red carpet interview when talking about his nomination. He said Sutter and AV are the real finalists. He also said he's glad Detroit moved to the East because it's weaker than the West.

Crosby received four votes for Selke? Given they were 4th and 5th votes, but it shouldn't be really difficult to think of about 30 different better choices, let alone 4 or 5... Guess some folks out east had to rush their ballots and tossed in a few names.
