The only award I'm annoyed about is Selke because just about every metric other than FO% favored Kopitar. Bergeron won because he had his best goal scoring season in ages, which is completely ass backwards. The media rewarded him or that.

GM of the year and coach for that matter always goes to the individual whose team exceeds expectations. Just like in the NBA. Frankly, I was shocked Dean was even nominated. Babcock was right on in the red carpet interview when talking about his nomination. He said Sutter and AV are the real finalists. He also said he's glad Detroit moved to the East because it's weaker than the West.

So much this ^.

The best defencive forward goes to the guy who had the lesser D year but scored more goals then before?

The awards a crap. But all NHL acknowledgements are an embarrassment with the exception of the cup and the championship awards. The Vezina went to hank who had inferior numbers compared to Quick in 12 (that .001 was in lesser games) and the voting for the rest of the awards happen before the finals of the playoffs. They should either only be representative of the regular season or be all inclusive. Anything else is simply stoopid.

Meh.

We just win cups and con smythes.

3 WCF's in 3 years two of which saw us win and go on to win the cup and DL isn't the GM of the year?

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight...........

The NHL having its main offices located on the east coast is an insult to every other team as it is. It used to be necessary due to the lack of coverage that the league received and the fact that the majority of teams played around there. Now times and situations have changed and we still have to deal with the same old east coast hacks pressuring the league into letting them influence the way things go.

The NHL head offices should be in Ottawa or there should be an Eastern and Western based HQ for the league.

Harumph Harumph Harumph Harumph.

I didn't get a Harumph out of that guy.

I love so much about that picture. ^

Backwards hat? Check. Crosby T-shirt? Check. Our boys carrying the cup? Check mother****ers.

I just can't get over the fact that that dude is taking selfie of himself and the Cup and it appears that Brown and Kopitar are pausing politely just for him to do that. Those guys are such gentlemen when they need to be, or want to be.

I'm more annoyed about the amount of difference in the votes. I'm not going to say Bergeron isn't deserving because he is, but the vote should have been very close. The fact it wasn't shows how much the east coast bias is still alive. I think Kopi should have won it but when only 7 times in the entire history of the award it has gone to someone not in the east what does that say. And 6 of those times it was someone in the Central time zone. So once has it gone to someone in the Pac time zone.
The other area where Bergeron beat Kopi was zone starts. But Kopi still had the worst zone starts of any forward on the team. Shouldn't blame him for the fact the team is so good every player is greater than a 50% zone start.

You give those voters too much credit. I doubt they would use the stats in a team-relative way, but I doubt they bothered to dig the advanced stats in the first place.

THN picked DL for GM of the year and when you add up all the things a good GM has to do to put together and keep a contending team, he really is the best GM in the NHL. Also, two of the last three winners of this award (Ray Shero and Mike Gillis) were both fired this season, fame is fleeting.

When Dean Lombardi was given the keys to the Los Angeles Kingdom in 2006, he inherited a team that had drafted Anze Kopitar and Jonathan Quick a year earlier. In retrospect, it was a little like being gifted a lottery ticket, one that wins the Powerball jackpot. While Kopitar was a first-rounder, he wasn’t a sure thing. Quick was a fifth-round project.

So why, then, are we anointing Lombardi The Hockey News executive of the year, when two of his key building blocks can’t be credited to him? And a third, Drew Doughty, was a no-brainer? Because the L.A. Kings are about so much more than their aristocracy.

Lombardi’s patient approach to constructing and maintaining a winner has been integral to his franchise’s success. Despite some rough patches, including a 1-8-1 slide, he resisted temptation to pull the trigger on a mortgage-the-future trade. While he did acquire playoff goal-scoring leader Marian Gaborik at the deadline, the cost was reasonable. No blue-chip prospect or high draft picks going the other way. He also has shied away from blowing out his brains on high-priced summertime free agents and his lineup is well positioned against the salary cap to remain virtually intact next season.

The supporting cast he and his talent evaluators assembled is formidable. Jake Muzzin was a scrap heap pickup, Alec Martinez a fourth-rounder, Tyler Toffoli a second-rounder. He pried Jeff Carter from Columbus at below market value and got Justin Williams from Carolina in what is now grand theft. Lombardi’s trade record is impeccable; he never hurts his team and almost always makes it better. His best transaction might have been landing Darryl Sutter to steer the ship. The antithesis of Hollywood, Sutter has been a master at managing his players, their emotions and ice time. That Lombardi has been able to put these pieces together without granting a single no-movement clause is remarkable. That’s why we’re crowning him the top executive.

I would have loved for Kopitar to win the Selke but I am happy he was nominated and came in second. The one thing I did not like was Cuba Gooding Jr hogging the mike when the Messier award was given. The Messier award is a big honor and should be taken seriously and Cuba made a farce of it. He also did not allow Dustin to say a few words on the award by thanking say is wife and others who helped organize all the charitable events. Just terrible and disrespectful.

P.S. good to see Heidi miss her smile at Kings Live.

Obviously we've won the most important award, but it is at least nice that all three of our main core players have been nominated for an individual award. Kopitar for the Selke, Doughty for the Norris, and Quick for the Vezina. That and it doesn't hurt that our captain is winning all the leadership awards...
