I guess it’s confirmed that he didn’t think our organization put enough attention on him. Probably going to sign with another team as a UFA in a few years.

Hopefully this doesn’t meant our organization will avoid Russian prospects altogether.
NHL teams hold KHL players' rights indefinitely, so he can't sign with anyone else unless we trade him.

For all we know he never intended to come here and was using it as a bargaining chip to make more money in the KHL.

More likely he realizes there was a very high chance he was going to spend significant time in the minors.

He's not so good that an NHL gig is guaranteed, and a comfortable KHL job probably beats riding the bus in the minors.

Yeah, he definitely can make a significant multiple more in the KHL than the AHL and likely leveraged our interest to get a bigger payday. I didn't have high expectations when his top linemates are guys like Jaskin, but it would have been nice to hit on a late Russian pick like other teams have or at least see what he could have done in the final games of the season if we decide to sell off a bit at the deadline.

Not our prospect but what Chernyshov is doing in the OHL is insane. I was hoping the Ducks got him at 31 before the trade up, then 35. Sucks he went to San Jose. Their rebuild is coming along really nicely.
Ducks would have passed on him anyway if the had been available at 35 which would have been even more frustrating. SJ takes Chernyshov with 33OA in 2024; the Ducks take Myatovic with 33OA in 2023....

This wasn't an invitation to complain about the Ducks drafting. We get it. You think their drafting is bad.

Rebuilds do tend to come along nicely when a team drafts well.

That's why the Ducks have five top-10 forwards drafted and only one top-10 defenseman in the past six drafts. The org can supplement not drafting forwards well outside the top-10 by drafting (or trading) forwards in the top-10: Zegras, Mac, Cutter, Carlsson, and Sennecke. Anaheim currently boasts three 2nd round defensemen in the NHL with LaCombe, Zell, and Helleson; along with Luneau in San Diego and late first round pick Solberg. Mr. No Name goalie, Dostal, is a third round pick.

Add Terry to the five youth top-10 forwards and that is your top-6. Just need to fill out the bottom-6.

The collection of young, top talent is there. I just don't think we have the correct coach that can uplift their offense if all we are doing is crossing our fingers that our goalies do their job so we can counter quickly. Our youth forwards' offense is meager at best. When Colangelo, San Diego's top goal scorer, was called up, he was made into a 4th line grinder. The one instance he was put into a top-6 situation with Vatrano and Strome, Colangelo scores a goal.
