Makar could end up as one of the best ever. Kid is unbelievable

Hawks drafted the wrong guy btw.

This just looked like a youth hockey game where the lesser conditioned team just ran out of gas in the 3rd

Should've delayed the Cup presentation for when Bettman was back.
But the assistant gm dude paused for the boos when he said Bettman’s name. ;)

TB had nothing in the tank in the 3rd.

Apparently Lehkonen’s father is the broadcaster for Finnish hockey. He was there and called his own son scoring the gwg that wone the Avs the Cup. That’s pretty cool

Good for the Avs I guess… so like, can the Hawks draft a Makar please. That would be so nice…
He's here already. Goes by the name "Ian Mitchell".

Cale Makar is already arguably better than Keith at his peak, and Makar is only 23 while Keith was a late bloomer.

Keith was a monster defensively and in transition, as is Makar, but Keith was never the offensive threat Makar was.

No knock on Keith. Every generation of players is better than the one that came before.

Talk about having a raging hardon for a player.

Maybe Makar can sniff Keith's jock strap after he plays 15+ years in the NHL, has the 1200GP that Keith has, the longevity, the health, and is a .5+ ppg D, with multiple Norris under his belt. Let me know when Makar averages 25 minutes per game, over 1200 games, and 16 years in the NHL, not just 2-3 seasons. Let me know when Makar is a lock for a first ballot hall of famer. Saying that Makar is already "arguably better than Keith at his peak" is absolute nonsense.

You think Makar puts up almost 30 goals and 60 assists from here on out? If you think that's going to be the norm, then I got some shit to sell you. Literally, shit.

Every argument you brought up in this response is a career measure not a peak measure.

I never said Makar already has a better career than Keith, I said he has already reached a higher level than Keith’s peak.

And? My point was pump the brakes on the "Makar is better than peak Keith" shit until the kid actually plays at this season's level for multiple years. You really think it's sustainable for a D to put up 30g and 50a+ every season over the course of his career?

And TI is also right in that Makar is not near the defensive player that Keith was at his peak.

Losing the 2017 draft lottery was the best thing to ever happen to the Avs. Let’s keep that in mind for ourselves the next couple years.

I agree with this sentiment because it does happen frequently where a later pick is better than 1OA... But…. Bedard.

Though I agree it is difficult to maintain that level of play, take the blinders off. I'll just leave it at that.

Makar has a long way to go defensively before he is better than Kieth. His Smythe was completely worthy but pump the breaks
Please enlighten us about Makar's defensive deficiencies at 23 years old. This kid does not have a weakness in his game and is liable to get even better.

Im not sure some people know what peak means. Makar this year went

Regular Season - 28 Goals 58 Assists 86 points in 77 games. Elite Defensively.

Won the Norris

Playoffs 8 Goals 21 Assist 29 points in 20 games.

Won Conn Smyth and Cup.

Thats a better year then Keith has ever had and his 2010 2014 and 2015 were fantastic.

Makar has more high end skill than Keith ever had but prime Keith was obviously incredible defensively, Makar is just that good

Saw more than a few salty takes at the broadcasters going on about how long its been since the last Avs Cup when eighteen other teams have longer active droughts than they had.

Kinda puts things into perspective.
