Picked this game up after finally upgrading to a current gen console (had a 360 for forever), and idk if I’m just terrible at this or if the new games are awful.

I only play offline franchise mode, but it seems like the AI has gone light years backward compared to what it was in 12 and 14.

My biggest gripes after several frustrating games and having tinkered with sliders:
-Why are my AI teammates backskating just about everywhere? It feels impossible to make quick passes in the NZ because whoever gets the puck almost always has to turn around to get on their forehand.
-They’ll crash the net on the cycle and stand on top of the goalie instead of setting up for a cross ice pass or a dish into the slot.
-For whatever reason, after winning a draw in the d-zone, my D partner without the puck will stand next to the goalie instead of going behind the net, which takes away the d to d pass. My forwards all blow the zone no matter what strategy is in place.

This is to say nothing about how annoying the CPU is in terms of always being in perfect position to both man up whoever has the puck, break up passes, and block shots on Superstar difficulty. Nothing like trapping an opposing forward in your end with a good breakout pass and watching them magically get back in the play a few seconds later.

The game just feels aggravating instead of fun at nearly every turn compared to the previous gen.

This would be fun for about 5 minutes until all the old men and/or dads that battle it out in the old school NHL 94 tourneys you hear about from time to time decided it was time to teach those old whippersnappers a thing or two.

My friend's dad was one of those. If you like losing games 24-0 because they know the game from pixel to pixel, be my guest lol.

World of chel is dying a slow death, it's so sad to see. I miss the old days in pubs where we matched all the best players consistently. Tons of them have just stopped playing now since the game has been on a steady decline for several years now. EA, you should be embarassed you greedy f***s

I wish they could release an update for free agency.

On going "issue" for at least a few years but hate you can only send out one proposal to a player. No negotiating or seeing if another team the next day upped the ante. In Madden you can edit proposals as many times as you want if you desperately want a free agent.

How is it "minimal"? It was one of the biggest things they marketed for the game this year.

Some times will do whatever they can to abuse the pressure system and it often leads to horrifically broken goals.

I agree to a point, but it's also refreshing to see the countless ways you can score a goal this year.

I'm always 100% behind working towards that hockey simulation. But it's hard to find that comfort zone where both the shooter, goalie and defender are happy how goals develop.

I think the pressure system is a one and done after this year and the main purpose is to try and convince people to start to play a more team focused game that revolves around possession and puck movement.

That's just me though.

I bet you trolls would never say half the crap you spew on here to an EA NHL developers face. Probably start shaking and walk away, then go on to type up more tirades against them online after you get home. These people are trying to make an honest living and pour their blood, sweat & tears into this franchise year after year for keyboard warriors to bully, harass, ridicule & make a mockery of it. This is a great game, the way they've utilized AI to create a realistic game environment is other worldly! I remember back in the 90's playing games with 8bit graphics and now we're playing games that look like real life hockey. Maybe you guys have never played actual hockey so you wouldn't understand the feel, but playing a game of CHEL brings me back to my days on the outdoor rink as a teenager. The all new Pressure System adds another element of realism to the game, where you actually feel the fatigue when you're hemmed in your own zone; or the adrenaline of controlling the puck in the offensive zone. But the haters have never played hockey in real life so they wouldn't know.

The customization brings to life all of your ideas, and the creativity goes far beyond the aesthetics now. With the all new Total Control system you're able to finally pull off the moves your favorite NHL players like Trevor Zegras do. I guess some of you guys just aren't skilled enough to pull them off so you hate on the people that do and want to revert to the days of ancient games. The all new cinematic individual player goal celebrations are just the cherry on top! Maybe if you spent half the time you spent complaining about this game on here and developed a game yourself you'd make a better one. LOL, good luck with that. These guys are the best in the business, there's a reason 2K couldn't compete. The best have the most haters, and that's how it's always been. This is a great game! I love what they did with HUT and World of Chel! And I bet half of the people leaving all these hate comments are still playing it because deep down they know this game is a masterpiece and a true feat of human ingenuity.

Yup, it's my opinion and everyone elses I play with. Don't mean to brag but I've played many high end tournaments and the game is designed so shitter players have a chance. Its embarassing but hey, they just wanna sell copys I guess.

Played a game Online VS yesterday and I get the criticism. The game just plays awful online with the slider set they are using. Everything is way too fast and arcadey. Is it the same in EASHL?

This game is a lot of fun when you play offline with custom sliders. Love playing my franchise with my beer league team created. But Online VS, HUT and Be a Pro are a shitshow. Not that the franchise mode (off the ice) is great at all but it serves the purpose for me.

That’s just the nature of competitive gaming, there has not been a single game that isn’t exploited. That’s literally what sets the best players apart from great players.

Go watch any E-sports tournament and you’ll notice there is literally zero variation how people play.

The pressure meter makes no sense as constructed. Skate around the outside of the zone for a small amount of time, get the meter, and throw it on net:
-goalie misses it
-goalie flops and can’t get up
-player intercepts it and has the “I got shot in the leg” animation at the slightest touch from the opposition

It’s just horribly designed.

This is quite inacurate. Since NHL 23 people don't even bother looking for cross ice high slot 1ts anymore, any decent goalie stops them everytime. The amount of turd/tip point shots has increased exponentially. Playstyle varies every year in high caliber 6v6 eSport tournaments.

It's just unfortunate that the most dangerous play in real hockey barely works in the game anymore because below average players complained about it for so long when the real problem is that they aren't skilled enough to defend it. As I mentioned earlier, this game is catered for bad players.
