This is quite inacurate. Since NHL 23 people don't even bother looking for cross ice high slot 1ts anymore, any decent goalie stops them everytime. The amount of turd/tip point shots has increased exponentially. Playstyle varies every year in high caliber 6v6 eSport tournaments.

It's just unfortunate that the most dangerous play in real hockey barely works in the game anymore because below average players complained about it for so long when the real problem is that they aren't skilled enough to defend it. As I mentioned earlier, this game is catered for bad players.
Literally every team plays the exact same style, in 23 it was cross-crease cheese, now it’s offensive zone pressure, you’re just further proving my point.

Maybe it's me, but it's tough to get even to 50% on faceoffs in franchise mode.
Granted most of my centers are in the 78-81 range for faceoffs but some games I'm hitting 25-30% for wins.

It's kinda funny how people desperately clung to 24 being a big change because 23 was left to die once it got pushed off the assembly line. It was basically their last ditch hope for the series to turn around.

It was a big change, but it's still not good. Pressure system is something that makes total sense on paper but EA watches at most, 2 hockey games a year which gives us a system where shit like weak shots/passes that miss their man but hit the goalie somehow count on pressure and goalies start flopping around like fish. Because legit and authentic hockey experience.

People who i know used to put up with the drizzling shits this series is all year (two of my buddies played 23 into the ground for some reason) either didn't buy the game, or bought the game and hate it so much they haven't touched it since right after launch. I personally haven't bought it since 16 since i gameshare with somebody but i played two online games, same most of the same trash (now with encouraged puck ragging) from years past then uninstalled.

This series is dead.

They missed the boat with their NHL 94 inclusion a few years back. They should have went the opposite way and used NHL 94 rosters and put those players into today's gameplay/graphics. That would have been incredible. Especially if they remade all of the classic arenas from that time, Maple Leaf Gardens, Boston Garden, Montreal Forum, the Aud, etc. I think I'd rather have that than another $60 roster update and minor tweaks

Server issues last night were frustrating. We finally had all the boys on for a change and one had to hop off before they righted themselves.

Had a 3 on 3 chel game where for half the period our team didn’t have any energy left and couldn’t regain it no matter how many whistles

I finally bought NHL 24 as well. I played some NHL Threes Circuit games. How come that I have unlocked a few stadiums but they won't show once I play a regular Threes game? Usually they are supposed to be there.

I got it for cheap just for the offline modes.... I find a spend half the game getting stuck on team mates
It reminds me of those Tudor football games from back in the 60s and 70s that were a metal field that vibrated the players around. Usually the players ended up a jumbled mess all in the same general area stuck to each other.

Between the absurd disallowed goals, the completely random penalty calls that would make Chris Lee jealous, and the inexplicable tendency for defensemen to score own goals on goalie passes to them, I almost forget about the horrendous AI of my d-men.

Starting to figure this game out. I just had to change the whole way I normally played the game. No more aggressive drives to the net, nor passing it through the slot for a onetimer. That's all been eliminated from this game. Now it's a lot of controlling the puck with the defenseman, passing it around the perimeter, until I get the momentum up, and just wire shots from the point. Hoping for tips a redirections. I'm starting to enjoy the game more, but it still has it's flaws like every EA NHL game. The amount of penalties taken by your AI teammates is absurd. A lot of own goals, and the goalie being a sieve during momentum swings, but I'm starting to understand it now. If you're a EA oldtimer like me, you got to eliminate the cross crease onetimer. Once you do that, the goals will come.

Added my last version of franchise rosters for X/S. They have over 400 prospects, Undrafted NCAA players, and more. I also added 4 expansion teams that can be used in a custom 36 team league and provide a fun rebuilding experience for franchise players.

My gamertag is VladDimitri

And thanks to any of you that grabbed the prior versions, they’re way up the downloads chart, just behind the YouTube guys, for which I certainly don’t have their widespread support!

Here is a Reddit link for how I set up my custom league.

It's kinda funny because the cross-creases and aggressive drives do open up after you've effectively established possession. Highly competitive EASHL teams still throw pucks into the crease to create scramble plays that often favor the attacker.

You've summed the game up quite well. It's nowhere near perfect, but it's still a more complete product than '23 was. Hitting is ridiculously fun this year. And that's coming from someone who completely removed it from their game in years past.

Hitting might be fun, but it's far less effective given how quick players get back up from being hit. It essentially turns into a 50/50 puck battle unless you've got a teammate anticipating your hit.

I still do it, but the risk/reward makes as little sense this year as it ever has.

I'm pretty sure that there are several factors that play into the effectiveness though. Stats mainly. But whether or not a player braces for contact and also how low the player's energy meter is.

I know people love laying out guys and having the recipients to have to gather themselves afterwards. But that would ultimately lead to a broken game.

I don't think it would lead to a broken game if it was balanced right. As it is now, you hit the player and they pop right back up with the puck and you're out of position and chasing from behind. Or worse yet, they're down for the count on top of the puck and your player can't pick it up.

I think what irks me the most about it is most of the time you neutralize the puck carrier but also yourself. It's rare that there's any net gain unless, to your point, the player getting hit has low energy. But there is still a chance you don't get the puck if the player is on top of it.

I'm speaking from playing as a 6'2" power forward with gold truculence, elite edges, and shutdown. Hitting and strength maxed out for reference.

To many hits in the game. No nhl game has like 80 hits by one team and like 70 shots on goal. Every game is like 8 or 9 goals each team. So unrealistic that it makes the game not fun to play

What mode are you playing in?

I play 8 minute periods on superstar and it's usually 30-40 shots on goal for both teams depending on how good or bad the opponent is and powerplays
Hitting is 20-30 hits per game.
