The problem, for me atleast (I am a developer myself), isn't the developers as I assume they are good at their job. Problem is man power and wrong priorities. Someone at EA thought it was worth investing time in the new goal celebrations almost everyone hates instead of implementing other things (like a simple toggle for the pressure meter).
That’s a very fair point. That oversight or the possibility of that feature being hardcoded is disappointing. If I had to guess, they committed to a flawed design or oversaw key issues, but by the time they realized, it was too close to launch and so they decided to distract the user with eye candy.

Quant developers do that too. “Two days before deadline and no time to incorporate such model. I’ll add a few graphs and incorporate the models later.”

Usually the result of poor communication and understaffing.

Lobbing the puck above everyones heads and across the rink is better. Aim at the other teams goalie and it can bounce in
Interesting. I just shoot off boards or sleep it through the middle if the opposing d are sufficiently far apart from each other.

I deleted the game, I just cant get used to the new controls. I really liked the Hybrid controls.
will likely be the first year I dont buy since 2002. really disappointing

What’s the hardest part for you? Hitting takes some getting used to, for sure, but I can’t comment on the complex dekes, since I don’t use those. I’ll admit that having to include pressing LB with RS for faking a shot is annoying.

Biggest reach? EA has released NHL for over 30 years. I know this, because I have played it ever since.

This is the first time they removed classic control option. Gladly, as some have said, it’s coming back.

Explain to me how this is one of “the biggest reaches in the history of reaches”?
Occam's Razor. It's likely just laziness.

I keep pressing buttons Ive been using for my entire life and getting non-stop penalties.
I like to press x for pass and change players.

Ive played alot of games in the past under the new controls and in the end I have always been at my best with Hybrid controls and beating all my friends who used the new controls.

in the end no matter how many games I played with the new controls I liked the game most with Hybrid.

This game would be decent if they didn't gimp the player controlled defense doing anything with the puck with the dumb pressure gauge, stick the puck like glue to the computer controlled defenders when the shoe is on the other foot and also actually watch NHL games as to when the pressure dissipates.

Really hope options/sliders let the players dial that gimmick back soon.

Ah understood. I haven’t used those controls in a long time, so I’m sorry to say I can’t help you there, but I understand your frustration. One potential workaround is to lower user penalties in sliders; it’s a hacky, to be sure, but it’s the best idea I have right now.

Sorry I can’t be of more help mate.

I’ve noticed that pressing A on Xbox is no longer an automatic slash, so that has helped a lot. Otherwise, as long as you stay between the goal and the puck carrier with an active stick and covering the passes when facing an odd man rush, the goalie will make the save. Just make sure to get to the front of the net quickly and pick up any loose pucks.

I have a 929 save percentage as NYR with this strategy and Oettinger in net. Pairings are:

Heiskanen - Fox
Miller - Drysdale
Lindgren - Someone I don’t remember

I noticed that the sound in the menys browsing around in rosters etc is the same sound you get when you make a pass with the same button IN THE GAME.What the hell??must be a bug but really irritates me.

The puck protect was really messing with me in the demo, gonna take some getting used to
This is the biggest issue for me. I'll consciously not be holding down L3, but he still goes into puck protect mode if I'm going too fast while using the right skill stick. It's beyond frustrating and has basically negated any chance I have at scoring on a breakaway unless I get enough room to where I can slow down to deke.

Also, I'm glad they nerfed the pressure system but there are still way too many players ragging in the offensive zone. The only thing I've found that is able to counter it is hitting, but that has too much of a drawback even if you barely miss.

As someone mentioned earlier, poking is super inconsistent. There are times where I've had good body position and timed it just right, only to see my player poke in a completely different direction even though I'm not using the right stick.

Saw this on reddit, but I'm having the same problem and haven't seen anyone come up with a solution other than you can't do anything if you want to skate fast:

I was like you. For years and years I was scared of the skill stick. Dude you have to make the jump. I'd recommend using the skill stick that came out in 2007. Just get used to it. Never mind the new controls, just skill stick. Once you get used to it you won't ever go back. Then after you get good with it try out the new ones.

So I love the gameplay. It's dope, the crowd is dope. I was playing franchise as buffalo, I'm in the first round against Ottawa, game one in their building. I took a penalty early and the crowd is going nuts. They get pressure and just pepper me. Finally goalie just died and they score and the crowd goes nuclear. It's so intense... I won the game but only because I plaid smart. Dumped it in. Grinded and got the pressure meter going. Penalties are legit game changers as they should be. There is no ragging coast to coast b.s.

The first time in a long time I want to just play and play...

I can play with the new controls I just dont like it, and I do like the skill stick but its also there in Hybrid.

the good news is they got the Hybrid controls coming back I believe.

I honestly didnt really notice much of a change at all from when I was playing but that's basically every one of them. at this point they are almost just roster updates. lol

The fact they kept it around for SIXTEEN years after developing a new and better system is hilarious. They literally gave people almost twenty years of time to learn the new system. They probably forgot it was and when they made a new system and needed room were like " oh look at that"

Get good bro, you've had 16 years... just learn the new systems, they are wayyyyyyy better..

Anyone else keep accidentally throwing reverse hits while carrying the puck? My friend said it was from trying to protect the puck but I don’t think so, it’s like when I was opening up to try and pass I would accidentally throw hits. Idk what it was but something I used to do all the time in 23 is making me throw reverse hits in 24

You're accidentally clicking the right stick.

Switch from "total control" to "skill stick" and that should solve the problem as the reverse hit changes from R3 to A (if you're on Xbox).

Probably my clubs biggest issue right now. We all keep doing it and it’s annoying as hell. It’d be nice if EA gave us the option to reassign some buttons…

Ran the first half of the 10 hour trial last night. No real complaints. It's still incredibly button mashy. Club 6s. I wouldn't advise anyone to review this game playing drop-ins or online versus.

The pressure system stuff seems pretty overblown. The people who really suffer are ones that don't know how to strip pucks IMO. It's time to change up the playstyle if that's the case.

Pokes are less effective, but sticklifts aren't instant penalties either. The game still rewards the players who anticipate the play well and manual blocks are still incredibly effective.

Game visuals are improved, too, which is nice. I'm cautiously optimistic though. They have a tendency to mess up a good thing.

If all I ever played was 6s, I'd probably say the same thing. The puck ragging in the offensive zone for club 3s is absolute cancer.

This was my sentiment too. Power plays also feel more realistic. The umbrella actually feels like an umbrella, with players positioning themselves correctly for one-timers; players start cycling when you have the overload PP. Really good work there.

Some of the goaltending saves are OTT, but I’ll concede that they make the game stunningly entertaining.

It shouldn't work in 3s. That's just common sense. But EA only works on one game mode each year and just hope the changes work for all the others.

I really wish the player base wasn't as toxic as they are though. EA can be held accountable to a point for this, but I never understood the need for so many players to play this way, turning what's intended to be a hockey simulation into what's essentially a vehicle for their own immediate gratification.

People who rag in these game modes are frequently lone wolves. They read poorly off of teammates and don't play well with others. That's not EA's fault that they exist. Taking their tools away probably takes some tools away from us.

How do you clear the puck in the D zone lol? If you’re on a PK, you just can’t, I guess? Or am I missing something?
R2+shoot replaced R1 for the high/far lob. R1 is used now to clear off glass

I deleted the game, I just cant get used to the new controls. I really liked the Hybrid controls.
will likely be the first year I dont buy since 2002. really disappointing
They will be brought back in a couple weeks.
