NHL 24 Discussion

Haven’t noticed it mentioned anywhere else so I’m wondering if it’s just my games that’s broken but it seems like the final minute in the third is no longer a full minute.

It looks like in the final minute the first 30 seconds are accelerated time (relative to period length you have set) and then the final 30 seconds is real time.

I don’t see any option to change it and idk why it was changed this year.

Also line changing using the D pad takes some getting used to. Could always go back to the regular skill stick controls I guess (assuming they didn’t change it there to).

Game feels very arcadey so far. Seems like they forgot to include the slider presets
That is my thought too and I have not seen the slider pre set either.

I played NHL 24 for the first time and it was pretty disappointing. Probably one of the worst hockey games I have played in awhile. That was on default settings. Once I implemented the sliders I usually use to slow the game down and balance it more defensively to help the goalies who are even worse then before the game became playable. I turned the speed down to zero, upped the goalie skills, and increased the back skating speed to keep the d-men in better position then the game improved quite a bit. On default settings it is quite bad though. It was like playing a bad arcade hockey game on the PS1 or PS2 which can be fun if the game is meant to be that way but for this generation it was pretty bad. The goalies are just plain stupid. When they scramble to make a save they sometimes stay in the same position for about 5 seconds while the other team passes the puck a few times and then scores and the goalie still hasn't even moved yet. The pressure meter is just nonsense. It adds absolutely nothing positive to the game. Maybe it needs to be tweaked and that will improve it. The defense and goaltending were already bad in the game so lets put a pressure meter and unrealistic goalie movements to make the defense and goaltending even worse. I think I can make the game good to play by adjusting sliders so that is a positive. I am sure they will do some updates as well so they might tweak some things but that was my first impression of the game.

McDavid never sims realistically for me either. I think the problem is he's so off the charts ahead of everyone else in recent years that his ratings for many attributes would "break" the game if they really reflected how much he's in a class of his own. Even 99 isn't high enough of a rating to reflect the talent gap between him and the rest of the league. Maybe his ratings should go up to 120

I have always thought they need to have bigger range of overalls - I have experimented with some downloaded rosters in the past

Played Chel 3's last night for a few hours. Thoughts:

1). f*** EA.
2). Hitting is broken, as in you can't hit. Even as an enforcer with truculence.
3). Inability to move or hide the pressure meter is ass.
4). Goalies make incredible, almost impossible saves, then let in the easiest shit you can imagine. It's one extreme or the other.
5). I swear, the ice surface has gotten bigger. Players look smaller.
6). Kept having lagging issues. Glitch issues in the menu.
7). Glad to see EA's offering us the same exact eyebrows that were available in NHL 07.
8). Game is geared towards getting the pressure meter up. Even if your goalie holds on to it for a new faceoff, it doesn't reset the meter. And once that meter is full, your AI is worthless. The goalie automatically starts flopping all over the place too.
9). AI dmen are trash. You can just skate past them going wide. Terrible reaction time.
10). This game makes NHL 23 look good. It's not as pure as a copy/paste from previous years. It definitely feels different, but not in a good way.
2: hit with B/circle or X/square (hipcheck)
3: it is complete ass. Certain teams, like the Wild, when the puck goes through the graphics I lose it. I turned up the puck size which helps but doesn't eliminate the problem.. I think this timer has always been in the game but hidden, let us hide it again please.. Or maybe a little timer in near the blue line

I realize I am a dinosaur, using classic controls for years. Not sure why EA felt the need to remove it. Seems like ageism.

Against my better judgement, I ordered it.

I guess we'll see if it's playable after a couple of patches and slider tweaks.

Last year's wasn't.

Gameplay does not feel too bad, but all the other things that break the immersion are just too much. I was already pissed we couldn't turn off these stupid X-Factors in the presentation (so commentary won't explicity say player a has this and that x-factor) but the pressure meter (WTF), the fact the goalie flops when tired (I have yet to see such flops from tired goalies in our beer league), the new celebrations and the animated boards telling me "full pressure" and what not are just too much for me.

The good thing is, all this (except the goalies connection to the pressure system) could be hidden from the settings menu if they ever patch it in without breaking the mechanics.

Again, the gameplay felt relatively smooth the two games I played.

I think EA finally did it!!!

They reached absolute rock bottom with their biggest piece of trash to date. Now we can FINALLY hope for some serious changes next year. Get rid of the entire EA NHL staff and bring in a new team. Take a year off as well, 2 years to make an all new game please.

The cherry on top is you need to change your name, jersey number, skating style and all your equipment for drop ins, home jersey, away jersey AND alternate jersey. It took me like an hour to do it for everything and if I change my skates, I gotta change them for ALL MY JERSEYS. Who comes up with this crap? It's actually mind boggling how bad they are.

Thanks for the post man, saved me a lot of time tonight and frustration. I won’t be buying until it’s fixed and probably will wait for better rosters, usually don’t play franchise until JFresh releases his rosters.
JFresh releases rosters? Are they crazy different than the EA ones? I gotta imagine Seth Jones is a 70 OVR knowing JFresh.

Nothing like that is going to happen. People keep buying the game due to their addictions. Those people are justifying a shitty product every year.

I have seen A LOT of players stop playing in eSports, a guy like JClaus33 stopped playing and he's probably the GOAT in 6v6 Chel. There's a reason they revamped the dev team and are appearing to try to be more in touch with the communty, people have had enough with the pathetic product and it affected sales. Ya some people will play regardless but alot have actually stopped and I'm talking about guys who grinded tons.
