I didn't expect anything more than this incremental update.

I especially look forward to losing a game in BAP, then my coach congratulating me for my play and telling me that we still win this one.

It's unfortunate that the business model is what it is. We should understand that this most likely comes as a result of a contract with the nhl which stipulates yearly releases, and the unfortunate reality that they'll never put enough resources into the game because it's a niche market (and also they blow ass so fewer people buy it than otherwise would. But still, niche market).

Just out of curiosity, for the people who are upset about no changes to franchise mode, what were you hoping for? I used to love franchise mode years ago, but I haven’t played it since 2014-2018 era. Stopped buying Chel because well.. it’s trash. (HUT killed offline modes and EASHL was getting worse every year) I did read the were lot of changes in the last couple years since I’ve played last, but I am wondering what’s missing that people would like to have added this year?

1. Scouting needs a massive overhaul. And what you scout literally doesnt translate into what you draft. Also how to actually scout really sucks. And you cant even scout non draftable players in the minors or future years. Then in the draft the players they say you should choose usually suck or dont make sense. And they arent even highly regarded the the scouts who tell u to draft them.
2. Coaches- the hires do nothing for your team. Strategies dont change at all and after a while u cant afford any of them because the budgets are out of whack
3- player progression - doesnt make sense. Player has a career year and their attributes dont move. Player has awful year but gors up 10 pts. Why? Who the f knows. Then all of a sudden everyone at 23 takes a massive leap and becomes an 80+
4- contracts - player in the minors asks for 8m bc his overall is an 80. Why? I dont know. The salary asks get completely out of whack and unrealistic
5-player progression part 2- would like to be able to work on certain areas like skateing for each player. And then the coaches abilities will help dictate how much they improve (if at all)
6- free agency- make it like the trade deadline for the first day or two. Be able to actually rescind offers or transition from player to player as free agency unfolds. Ability to counteroffer or raise an offer after original was made.
7- be able to go above cap for FA. Also be able to sort out your lines and depth chart easier
8- preseason- be able to put whoever in your lineup to try them out. Aka no roster size limit during preseason.
9- winter classic and or stadium series games
10- trades- have the cpu counteroffer. Also trade values are not realistic. Older players are now way under valued, especially at trade deadline.
11- sim speed - it sucks
12- ability to edit fake players. Why cant you change their looks.
13-add the echl so u can send players in the ahl down there
14-have NMC and NTCs in the game
15-make sims make sense- crappy teams in rebuilding mode shouldnt be in first place.
16- why does the allvensaken always wnd up with no prospects for scouting… also players drafted in US league aka college/ndtp should have 4 years before needing to sign.

Im sure i missed some. But those are some of the problems i have withe franchise mode.

Passing is one of the most broken things in the game, you need zero vision or skill now to make a pass since it’s either going blade-to-blade like a on string or the receiving player will ignore it. That’s why the backpost pass cheese has been the prominant scoring mechanism for a decade now.

For example. Take the breakaway passes behind defenders you see in the trailer, basically non-existint in current NHL games. Mostly because players have to be in basically stand still to recognize a pass before it’s on their blade, leading to that ping-pong passing that it’s now. Only way around this is the sauce pass, but AI players barely ever recognize those mostly rendering it useless 70% of the time.

If the icon passing is like in 2k the AI player will recognize he is the one the pass is coming to before it’s on his stick and will adjust to it, allowing you to actually be somewhat creative with the passing and make plays in to spaces.
You don't play much WOC then. There are a countless contigent of that population who don't know the first thing about aiming or receiving them. Let alone attempting anything remotely complex.

I will concede that the passing in this game will always be arcadey. Making a laser pass through your legs aimed backwards while spinning is something you don't see very often in hockey, but it's possible in Chel.

And the breakaway passes behind defenders in that trailer are passes that can be made using the current system.

Single player (or mostly single player) games can do great too (i.e Elden Ring and Baldurs Gate 3 for example)

No changes to offline modes feels like EA saying you will play online only and you will like it which no I wont...just wont buy the game
You hear them say again and again we’re focusing on where the money comes from….the online be that I don’t play. What really pisses. E off is I’m an avs fan and want to be able to collect it cause of makar

You know once they add NMC and NTC they’re going to hype it up as some massive addition.

This stuff is so basic, it's insane how EA is absolutely shit the last two gens.

Wish a new studio would emerge with a good budget

10 years since the last actual good NHL game lol. I didn’t mind 16-18 even though they still weren’t as good as 11-14 but imo 19-23 were trash.

A thread on EA forums of the stupid pressure meter icon on the ice.

Someone says it is not going to turn off ,well if true no buy for me ,not going to se that shit every game.

If you can’t turn off the pressure icon, that’s an absolute failure of thought from EA. It doesn’t take 1/10 of a second to realize many (I’ll wager most) people will get tired of seeing that inside of their first game.

Much like the baffling idea last year to have the female commentator let you know which X-factor ability someone was going to use; it’s one thing to take all of the guys with a shooting X-factor ability and add a line of dialog like “Matthews can be a real X-factor with that deadly shot of his”. You know, wink-wink. It’s his X-factor ability. Instead they chose to have real life commentary discuss fictional superhero abilities as if they were real - “that’s his SHOCK AND AWE X-factor ability, guys!” That’s his eye laser superpower!

The sad thing is, watching the trailer, I like the idea of exhaustion and working the puck to make possession meaningful, some physics changes, deke cancels, etc. and was thinking that, with a good custom slider set that tones down the rag doll checking, I could make a really enjoyable gameplay experience based on the purported changes this year. That was under the assumption that the next announcement would address game mode changes, and include SOME improvements to Franchise/BAP. The news that they didn’t touch either is insanely disappointing. What does it matter if I can make a really solid slider set that gives decent gameplay if my 85 overall winger is asking for $12.5M for 6 years in the off season, an 88OA goalie is asking for 14.75M and the CPU is trading Crosby to the Coyotes 4 weeks into the season?

legit insane they can say they aren't making any changes and still charge full price.

Oof this is rough. At least they just come out and admit it.

Looks like I will delay my purchase to see what offline players think about the gameplay changes and if it's an unplayable mess like last year's game.

Also there needs to be options for the pressure meter, be able to turn it off, adjust it and the goalie fatigue so it's balanced and not an insta score gimmick.

Thanks for saving me $60, EA.

So it sounds like Franchise Mode is a complete lost cause lol. I was considering maybe giving it another go this year once the game goes on sale but yikes. Waste of time

As far as player progression goes in franchise mode. FC24 does in fact have this in their career mode this year. If you have a silver player for instance, as that player starts getting better, his silver card will go gold. I wonder if that will be something NHL 24 will implement as well.

Honestly this is my reaction from NHL 22. I skipped nhl 23 bc from what i read it was basically the same mode. So maybe some things were slightly updated but it was the same complaints i kept seeing in reviews and on forums.

Yeah i used to pre-order but now i will wait a month to see what the reviews are saying. Probably going to skip again. Or maybe wait for christmas sale.

I'll be waiting for a sale but just because I don't have the same time to play as I used to, so can't justify.

I'm pretty sure that even if this series did a 180 or cured cancer reviews would be harsh and fans would be up in arms. They will still buy it, but will be up in arms.
