What is the deal with people that *don't* like this game being absolutely addicted to endlessly talking about the game?

If you don't like the game because of a metre on the ice, by all means, *DO NOT BUY THE GAME.*

But what is the point of people endlessly telling us they don't like the game and they're not going to buy it? I promise you, not a single person in the thread cares whether you buy it or not, not one person. So you don't need to let us all know whether you like it or not.

Don't buy it, stop reading threads about it and stop posting about it and instead channel your energies into something you do like.
Garbage post. Obviously a lot of the criticism is coming from people who love hockey video games and are frustrated.

Nobody is complaining about criticism of the game. (Though, the game is not yet out, so it does seem silly.)

What I am complaining about is people that endlessly announce they aren't buying the game any more, or claim they haven't bought it for years, yet any thread about the game coming out, or new features, or anything at all, we get the same parade of posts announcing they aren't going to buy it, calling it an $80 roster update, blah blah blah.

It's the same shit over and over and it's bizarre that anyone would waste so much time and energy on a game they claim they don't even buy. Why do people feel the need to publicly announce which games they are going to buy? Who cares? Why clog up a chat about the game with all of these people that think anybody gives a damn whether they buy it or not? What's the point?

Why talk about anything? That’s the logical endpoint of this train of thought.

You’re free to start a thread called “NHL 24 - Positive Vibes Only” or something. But the questions you’ve posed have painfully clear answers.

Yea man. EA deserves a negativity-free echo chamber of adulation.

We haven't had a good complete NHL game in over a decade, were allowed to voice criticism on a franchise that deserves it, not all of us are blind sheep.

This is hockey fans in general though. Hockey fans complain more about their sport than fans of any other sport. So it only makes sense that this would extend into a video game made for kids.
Video game made for kids? Really?

How on earth did you get that out of what I said?

I don't think anybody objects to criticism of the game, which I literally said in the first sentence of my post that you have responded to. So it's frankly bizarre that you somehow lost the thread despite it being stated that clearly.

I'm saying nobody gives a shit if someone isn't buying the game. It's really odd that several people seem to think that whether they buy the game or not needs to be public knowledge.

Why you are talking about adulation for the game is beyond me. The game isn't out. Nobody is adoring it so I have no clue what you're talking about.

Nobody is talking about this thread, or any thread, being "negativity-free." So why are you talking about this?

Did you even read my post that you responded to?

You seem to have entirely missed the point.

You're pretending I have said why are people complaining about the game? I didn't. I said why do people feel the need to announce they are not buying the game, as if that somehow matters to anyone but them. Why do people who don't play the game (some claim to have not played it for years) keep coming to a thread about the game, year after year, to announce they don't play it anymore and the same list of tired complaints? What's the point, other than to sink the threads and troll anybody that actually has interest in talking about the game?

You say the answers to my questions are painfully clear.... So why do people who don't like a game and don't play a game flood the threads about the game?

What's the painfully clear answer to why people think there's a need to announce the games that they won't be buying? I will not be buying Baldur's Gate 3! I'm hot buying that game. Even if it was $10, I wouldn't get it. I might play it if it's given out for free, but even then, probably not. I didn't even buy Baldur's Gate 2.

In about a week or so, I'll post again letting you know I'm not gonna buy Baldur's Gate 3.

We haven't had a good complete NHL game in over a decade, were allowed to voice criticism on a franchise that deserves it, not all of us are blind sheep.

See the above two posts, I can't keep tearing down straw men.

Lmao , okay. FerrisRox is now making the thread rules.

They have basically just made a few gameplay changes and changes to the free to play part of the game, and charging full price. I've bought DLCs for other games at a third of the price that has had three times more work put into it.

They messed with the controller to appease the less competitive population. That's disappointing.

Single button lacrosse. Mapped button hits. The skill stick with added shift keys was effective. I guess we get to see how long it takes some of the other buttons to fall off of my controller.

I’m going to try not to sound condescending, sincerely, but you’re making it difficult. You do not know what a straw man is if you are going to argue that, in a thread called “NHL 24 Discussion,” bringing up Baldur’s Gate would be the same as discussing whether or not people plan to buy NHL 24.

Here it is, in simple terms: people who are enthusiastic about hockey games are, in this thread, voicing their ongoing disappointment about the only NHL game on the market. They discuss their plans not to buy it largely because the series’ poor state has only been justifiable to the developer thanks to the people who still toss money at them—mostly HUT monkey-feeders—despite the fact that the game is widely maligned and has remained unchanged for many years. People who haven’t bought it since NHL 21 are still playing the same game you’ll be playing this fall. They were waiting for that trailer and hoping that there’d be something to be excited about. Why shouldn’t there be discussion on whether or not to cast a financial vote for a game we have a shared interest in?

Baldur's Gate has nothing to do with the Strawman argument.

The straw man argument is multiple people in this thread, when faced with the question "Why do people feel the need to announce that they aren't buying the game and haven't bought the game in years?" responding by saying "Oh, well I guess you need a thread where nobody criticizes the game and it's just positive vibes and an EA echo chamber."

Surely you can see how the response has nothing to do with the question?

Other people in this thread think that people that are tired of hearing the same handful come in and announce they aren't buying the game are somehow then "EA cheerleaders" "Sheep" or " working for EA."

Again, what does one have to do with the other? The responses aren't even connected to the question.

That, my friend, is a straw man. An argument that isn't being made is being "shot down."

Whoever taught you your fallacies didn’t do a very good job. The point was that you, yourself, were guilty of a straw man argument - an oversimplification of an opposing viewpoint that is easier to respond to than the complete and substantial version of it. The post of yours I quoted before is full of exactly that — flippant, lazy dismissals of opinions you didn’t like hearing, in an attempt to reduce their intent to: “sink the threads and troll.”

Now that I think of it, you haven’t offered a single reason as to why anyone should be excited for or eager to buy the game. Didn’t you want to talk about it?

I just played my monthly online game of NHL23, a franchise that I used to play hundreds of games per year.. and my god, I forgot how sluggish and bad that game feels. I signed up for the tech test of 24, next week will be pretty telling. I am usually a pre-order/day one buyer, but this is the year I am debating on skipping finally.

I just want a hockey game that is actually fun and not a chore to play, I made a lot of my online friends through NHL over the years, and it just makes me sad, but -- I don't want to slug my way through some crappy experience again if this year is on a similar level... Sorry to the guy who doesn't like announcement posts.

Yea, you were bitching about people bitching, and telling people who don’t want to buy the game or venting frustration about it that they should stop. Sure, you can be negative it just had to be on your terms, lol. Get real.

Actually people do give a shit since I’ve interacted with multiple people about potentially not buying the game already.

Hmmm.. you know what the reason is for being on a forum? Discussing topics, expressing your opinion on something and more. Weird take.

I hope that’s a new animation for “about to get suspended for charging” because that’s not a “checking” animation in any capacity. Can they not just have two hockey players actually check each other for motion cap? Are guys launching themselves at dummies like stunt doubles the only alternative?

My favourite part is when they pine for 2K...who started the "release the same game with new rosters" (albeit they ended up discounting the price of those games) model. Everything from 2k5 to 2k10 is basically the exact same. They pine for early EA, which tried to do something new every year but the game was inconsistent year to year, making 2K the big dog until 2005-06ish. The features some talk about the old EA games having were basically current "facility upgrade" features with cool window dressing (ie. when you upgraded the gym you got a new picture and it showed up in a stat window vs. being text based with no visual indicators for change).
