This series can't get the basic fundamentals of hockey down, and now EA has the balls to make Ice Tilt an actual feature in the game, haha.

Not enough people talking about this imo. People who play a more cerebral passing-defending style getting punished again for the sake of the adderall inspired “style” of hockey.

LOL @ that pressure meter on the ice. What is this, Midway's Open Ice from 1995?

Also, it's 2023, people seriously can't still be surprised that EA doesn't give a flying f*** about offline modes.
Nah it ain't, cuz I'd actually buy that on PS1 still, and I would not touch the new game (certainly not at full price, not looking appealing at the 20 it eventually hits either).

This draught for a good hockey game is so bad I've debated dusting off my OG Xbox for NHL 2k4/2k5 and EA NHL 04-06.

Those games still have more features than any EA Hockey game in the last decade.

“With Hybrid you would use face buttons to pass, shoot, check - Total Control will utilize the face buttons for dekes and you will have to use the trigger and skill stick to pass, shoot, check, except if you use one touch icon passing which utilizes the face buttons along with the trigger.”

Apparently Hybrid controls have been removed from the game.

I know I’m in a small minority, but as an “older” gamer who has played since NHLPA ‘93, I’ve never gotten the hang of skill stick. I’ve always been old school in that I use the face buttons to pass and shoot. I’ve only ever used the analog to deke and for the odd poke-in goal while crashing the crease in EASHL.

So, if this is true this will be the very first game in 30 years that I won’t be buying. It makes me sad but I’m not a kid anymore and I have a family now, so I have more important priorities. I don’t get to game much anymore anyways. Saves me $100.

holy pinball hockey.
please some other company make a damn hockey game.
Exactly this. It looks like the same freaking game. Physics based checks? Didn't they introduce that years ago? Also, everyones feet is ALWAYS moving. Does no one use corkscrews to move at all? D has to do back wards crossovers just to move a few feet? wtf....

The gameplay looks like garbage. The same crappy spastic shit they've been shipping for years. The players still look like they have no weight to them. There's seemingly no difference in gliding vs using edges.

Im so over this. Id just rather another studio make a hockey game thats not NHL. Call it beer league hockey, I dont care. Just make an actual hockey game please.

Remember a few posters were so excited when a couple developers went on Twitter and said they knew the game has been ass for years. They were so excited because they thought there would be changes this year lol.

Wow, ice tilt does exist, but it’s good now. Awesome. And when did they take out one touch passing? Very clever of them to put it back. I almost didn’t notice. Hits into the bench, too - I hadn’t even realized you couldn’t do that anymore until they pointed it out.

You gotta hand it to EA - they’ve kept a series going with nothing but pure marketing for way longer than is reasonable.

I’ll probably get in trouble for saying this, but… you suck if you pay $70 for this game. “Different strokes” time is over. If you support this lie with your financial vote, you suck raw, unfiltered ass. This needs to die so something good can emerge in its place. Let it die.

Yep, I might be out for good now. I guess I'll see how the reception is when it comes out. I've passed with A since NHL 06 and I don't feel like re-training my brain after 15 years. I've never shot with the facebuttons since the 360 days but I hateeeeeee using the triggers to pass. Tired of EA insisting that everybody play the way they want people to play. Why can't I just use my own custom button layout if they're trying so hard to cater to the online sweatys anyway? My style of play has always been about gap control and pokechecks on defense and passing plays/dekes on offense and despite EA trying its best to turn their online into pinball arcade nonsense I still usually win 80% of the time.

Just feels ridiculous that I've supported NHL for 15 years through 4 console generations and my reward is that the game is more expensive, they're adding a premium pass on top of that, my button layout is taken away, icetilt is now a "feature" and the offline modes haven't caught up to NHL 11. I bought NHL23 after skipping a year and my Xbox controller doesn't work with it and the servers were absolutely brutal. I could play every other game online comfortably with my network but for NHL I would get randomly disconnected 20% of the time.

I think there are two things going on here with EA's sports titles in general, but I'll be more specific to NHL. One is that after decades of pumping out titles every single year it feels inevitable that you'll reach a point that it's hard to meaningfully upgrade every single year. I'm not necessarily defending EA, especially since everyone knows the NHL staff has been cut to a skeleton crew. But it was already going to be difficult to accomplish even without that.

The other has been discussed to death and is very valid, and that's the focus on the money making online modes. I understand why they do it, they're trying to make money obviously, but I don't like it either. I've always preferred franchise mode with maybe the occasional online game with friends or whatever, and it is very frustrating that relatively simple updates to AI and contracts go unfixed year after year. I don't even think the framework for franchise mode is bad at all. It just needs a little effort.

Problem is that I don't even ask for meaningful updates, I just ask to not actively make things worse.. which they do frequently. The menus have been a horror show for a few years now, the servers, the cross-play/spliting the player base, the online tuning, not fixing an xbox controller glitch that's been a problem for two titles now, the commentary being bad, putting customization behind lootbox rng, making EASHL an unbalanced mess with it's new "customization" of builds etc.

No more blinding white backgrounds for NHL 24. Not sure if it's only dark mode, or if you have the option for the white backgrounds as well.

How much do you want to bet that EA always had the ice tilt feature, and all they did was put an indicator on the ice and polish the system a little bit.
This is what i strongly believe to.Ea is like a second hand car dealer so the more the customer thinks they get in reality they only getting less.

And also why i think we a stuck with the Pressure meter on the ice and no option to turn it off.Because if you can turn it off then you have the same game as before.People think more of it just because they se a damn meter to look at and ooh what a new feature yes maybe for kids not for me who wants realism and want to feel what you are doing not look at a stupid meter.

It's seemed for years that with sustained offensive pressure, defending teams were more likely to take penalties and tire out. Moreso than what you'd expect from normal tiring etc. The goalie fatigue deal seems like it's probably new though.

Does it really matter though? It's not like goalies in this game were ever the be all end all. They're pretty helpless against quality shooters to begin with.

I'm concerned that this 'new' pressure system that's centered around possession will ultimately reward the players who thrive from puck ragging. LT/L2, the new meta is the old meta.

What is the deal with people that *don't* like this game being absolutely addicted to endlessly talking about the game?

If you don't like the game because of a metre on the ice, by all means, *DO NOT BUY THE GAME.*

But what is the point of people endlessly telling us they don't like the game and they're not going to buy it? I promise you, not a single person in the thread cares whether you buy it or not, not one person. So you don't need to let us all know whether you like it or not.

Don't buy it, stop reading threads about it and stop posting about it and instead channel your energies into something you do like.

This is hockey fans in general though. Hockey fans complain more about their sport than fans of any other sport. So it only makes sense that this would extend into a video game made for kids.

hope they fix the Playoff Mode so you can select who you want to have Home/Away in the Cup Final.
shouldnt be based off the previous years standings since I dont recall this happening in any of the other NHL games Playoff Modes

also find away to make Franchise Mode exciting again. I dunno how but gotta be a way. hell Id be fine with the same format just a new look

Well you know it is not easy when you are 45 years old with a big balloon head and your neigbour constantly chasing you with a needle trying to pop your head.So at the very least i think i have the right to complain a little about a videogame.

Please keep us all updated on whether you buy the game or not. Let us know if you change your mind.

I can give you daily updates. Even can PM you when my mind goes back and forth in case this keeps you up at night.

I was hoping for Franchise updates. Meant to quote someone but forgot to attach the post.
I enjoyed 23 and was looking forward to 24. But without franchise updates it's a bummer.
