Things like the one touch passes, the dekes and the defending tools are already in the game already if you know how to manipulate the secondary mechanics. None of those animations really showed me anything remotely new.

The idea that I'll have to hit a completely different button to target different teammates to pass just seems unnecessarily bulky. Unless I misunderstood.

What I do like to hear is that you can develop out of moves. It leads me to believe that they may have actually coded a shot animation cancelation, which we've been asking for for multiple versions of this title.

Meh on the crossplay feature.
I assume the passing with button’s system is similar to NBA 2k’s icon passing where each button is assigned to a position and when you hold R1 you can pass to that player by using the button assigned to them. If so, it’s honestly one of the best features added to the series since 2013.

I haven't bought an NHL at full price since like 2018 but I feel like that trailer showed like nothing brand new. Game looks and feels the same as it has since 2014.
How do you know how the game feels the same when the play test isn't out yet.

You'll need to translate it but in depth overview of what changed
Translated:

On the other hand, fans of the "Franchise" and "Be a pro" game modes will be disappointed since there is no modification in these modes.

Thought there were some nice features in the trailer but that is extremely disappointing.

The NHL series has more or less felt and looked the same since 2015 when they introduced "dynamic cloth technology" aka jersey flutter. The only noticeable difference in gameplay if you were to play NHL 23 vs. NHL 09 is how slow the gameplay is in newer versions.

Don't disagree with what you are saying, but how to you know this upcoming game will feel the same? They have a whole new team that is working on this now.

Why noy just make it a playground hockey game, like it really is and be done with it. What a joke.

You're splitting hairs for the sake of it- but I can make an educated guess based on how the game looks in that gameplay trailer and having played games from the NHL series for almost 3 decades.

Looks like a $15-$20 game at most. Over the top arcadey and gimmicky.

Last time the game had its charm was about 2013. The last time I REALLY enjoyed the game was NHL 09. Just garbage since then.

I just don't see how that's any different from the left thumbstick. If you possess good vision of the game's passing system on your own, you won't need those assigned buttons. People simply don't know about pass cancelation and how important it is to throw off defenders.

EA needed to create a more immersive environment for mastering those skills. Instead it seems they invested a ton of development time into what's likely an unnecessary cosmetic feature.

They can't even bother to improve the fighting mechanics to something actually fun? It's a whole genre of game for a reason... Like how hard is it to program high punch, low punch, upper cut, block/tie up, throw, dodge into buttons. They can have some combos specific and speed/strength tied to fighting attributes/size/strength/weight.

My thoughts:
- Passing feature is cool
- Reverse hit will be overpowered and make it impossible to hit
- They had a whole year to develop this game and that's basically the only gameplay updates?
- If franchise mode is untouched, I will be very disappointed
- Never was a fan of be a pro but its a shame how unexciting that mode is

I swear this was already in the game.

are they assuming that based on that trailer tho?

nvm just read the article. What a joke EA is. Pathetic.

They cant make improvements to offline because they focused on gameplay?

Horseshit.

They're just going to use next year as the year they can market offline changes.

How about that, looks like they changed up the game engine. Kind of surprised.

Still will be interesting to see how it executes. Too much catch up logic and different rules/outcomes applying to user vs. computer controlled teams in the past, and especially last year's game was unplayable in this respect.
They didnt change the game engine at all.

Looks like the same garbage, the pressure thing is just going to be a massive ice tilt feature that will result is goals all the time, and like someone else said, just shoot garbage shots from all over to tire the goalie out.

Only thing that looks remotely ok is the one touch passing but we’ll see how it actually is when it comes out. They showed the same 2 clips of it over and over.

the only reason I ever buy these NHL games is for franchise mode and of course, no new content for it nor a PC release.

it's the same song & dance with EA despite anything they "change" they only care about the eSports crowd because that's where the real money is for them. Yuck, back to Franchise Hockey Manager I guess.
