Very glad to see an Av on a game cover finally. Now hopefully the game is decent enough to give me an excuse to buy it

It'd be great if they got rid of the world of chel gimmick and brought back the actual hockey arenas/uniforms for otp and drop ins. I don't wanna play outdoor hockey in jeans.

Agreed. I also want to have sweater numbers during drop in, even if the guys are wearing singlets, I just wanna see the numbers on the back of players.

Gonna be pretty annoyed if there arent any major additions to Franchise mode again. I genuinely dont understand how they iterate so little in that mode. Adding something like contract clauses or historical rankings would be so easy. Give me a week and I could pump it out.

Damn, was hoping for a player that didn’t already have a scanned face.

It's a good cover, and hopefully suggests that you actually can play defense in this game

There's like 3 outdoor games a year. Why did they ever remove Winter Classic mode?

Also, after Rodion Amirov passed today, I remember they used to do Make-A-Wish kids in the game. Why did they stop doing that? Used to love seeing that stuff, little 7 year old 99 overall kids.

Just looking forward to the new Brandon Tanev HuT card.

I actually ended up enjoying 23 with some sliders being adjusted.

Noticed after the latest patch they did scoring went up to somewhat match the current NHL pace.
McDavid in 23-24 season scored 130 points with 80 goals(33PPG) and there were quite a few players over 100 points.

First few franchise modes it was like the Jamie Benn Art Ross seasons.

GAA across the league was up too. Lowest was 2.7 GAA(Bruins).

Think my only complaint is the stupidity of your CPU defense, no matter how high their awareness is they are dumb.
Protect net + collapse+ conservative forecheck + etc... my defensemen will still be seen 20+ feet away from the goalie where there will be two opposing players.
And maybe it's me but once I get scored on the goalies confidence is absolutely shot for the rest of the period.

I think for 2024 I like the valuations for prospects/players that 23 established. Maybe a tad more detail such as when you go to the trade block, CPU teams can have set goals such as rebuilding, retooling or going for it all.

Like, a team like Arizona should have an even higher tax if you want a 19 year old prospect with high upside. But if it's a team that is "going for it all" the valuation of their 20 year old B/A prospect could be trade bait for a legit top 4 defenseman or top 6 forward etc...

Has anyone noticed CPU teams buying out players/retention on deals on 23? Noticed some teams losing out on notable RFAs due to that so maybe some tweaks to how the CPU properly handles the cap space and valuation of older/declining players still with term.

Also, maybe I've missed it but I would like more training options for prospects/younger players on the team. Ended up scoring 40+ goals with a young player, high morale, zero progress points....

How about making it actually feel like hockey? Instead we get weightless, jittery players that don’t seem to ever carry momentum. I feel like 2k sports was heading down this path. Idk why EA can’t get this right. They added freaking sweater dynamics but they can’t get player movements right. Passing and shooting still feels horrible and honestly is way too instant. They should simulate the lag that is real between “I’m going to pass” and the actual movements needed to do the intended pass. Like, you just can’t do a hard backhand without positioning the puck, your skates, your body, etc.

The game also moves too fast. It’s way too arcade like. It should be closer to .75 the speed. Instead everyone is skating full strides all the time.

Bah, the game just does NOT feel like hockey at all. Until they massively overhaul the engine (they won’t), Rocket League remains the best sports game ever and feels more like “hockey” than an actual hockey game.
I haven't played it in ages, but 12 felt like the last game where players were actually digging into the ice to skate and not just floating on it/above it.

The no-momentum backhand laser pass looks so bad every time it's used.

Was 12 before an engine overhaul? Like, did they add skill stick or something after? I don't recall

Skill stick has been around since the first Xbox 360 version in 2006. (and they still didn't get it right, at least on defense... not sure why I have full freedom to stickhandle when I have the puck, but the moment I lose the puck I have to use "shift" button style modifiers to make my stick do things... but alas).

I see it at the absolute opposite. The players were floating pre-NHL 13 and the new skating engine in that year was more realistic physics-wise. The skating has taken additional steps on next-gen, I actually think it's one of the lowest priorities for making the game better.
