There is literally 0% chance of this happening. The 2nd overall pick playing 4 years and picking his destination is unheard of.

And no need to mention Wheeler, we're not the Coyotes and Fantilli isn't from the east coast of America.
There's always a chance. Anything can happen. Ducks shouldn't take a chance on him if he isn't committed on playing in the NHL right away because he could go that route with it being open to him even if it seems unlikely he will take it.

Imagine drafting him and he decides to keep playing college hockey and then does pick his team to play for and it's not the Ducks how bad that would be for or the Ducks.

So the Ducks are the only team that drops in the draft yet again. And screw the NHL. Yes, reward a crap organization who condones sexual predation.

Any agent should lose his/her job immediately if fantilli goes to school. Way too much money for him to risk and delay.

Fantilli is still a kid who lost out on an NCAA championship bid with his buddies, of course there is going to be part of him that wants to run it back, but sanity will prevail.

Devil's advocate here, because...well, I've had a few drinks and I haven't watched tape because I didn't want to commit to watching highlight reels.

Do we think there's a potential Byfield situation where Fantilli succeeds currently purely because he's "a man amongst boys"?
Nope.

He's way more polished than Byfield ever will be. I think it's a night and day comparison

Some comparisons I like for him: Toews, Mathew Tkachuk

Alright time to move on.

Pumped for #2 and our scouts getting the guy they want out of the second tier guys.

Fantilli and Carlsson are both perfect fits for what we need in the top 6 in their own way.

Fantilli brings the tenacity and speed along with his size and attitude.
Carlsson brings the size and power combined with the skill that we had with Getzlaf.

Very excited.

He’s committed. He hasn’t announced he’s leaving yet because he doesn’t even know where he’s going; it’d actually be kind of weird if he did.

Eichel said the exact same things, he’ll probably be signed in early July.

You're being paranoid for paranoid's sake. It's not even worth entertaining the idea of him staying in college. There is zero upside for him to do such a thing financially or for his development.

If you can give me ONE good reason why an 18 year old who had one of the best rookie NCAA seasons ever and is projected to be the #2 pick would choose to stay in college until he's 22, then I'll accept it.

I've seen Fantilli compared to McKinnon which would be cool as f*** honestly.

We'd have our own McKinnon-Rantanen duo with him and McTavish, not to mention the slew of other really talented players in our system

people on the r/hockey brought up a good point, Arizona lost their 1st round pick due to some illegal talks with draft eligible players, but the Hawks lose nothing for covering up literal sexual assault. absolute BS that they Hawks faced no consequences for it.

Not sure if it has been posted already in the thread but it bares repeating

This is what I'm most upset about honestly... I know life's not fair and bad people always get away with things but why does it have to happen in sports too lol

I understand that this is the healthy thing to do, but much like when I am in the mood for a Popeyes chicken sandwich with their microwaved mac n' cheese, I would prefer to mute the anger and sorrow now and suffer the physical and mental consequences the next morning.

I would have no problem if Fantilli went back to UM for another year and then signed with the Ducks after his college season ended. He is still very young and probably not NHL ready yet. And going to SD might really screw him up.

So let's say he threatens the ducks before the draft, who is he trying to get to? staying 1 more year isn't that big of a deal but they will probably want to sign him immediately

Flip side is he gets used to McIllvane before he (presumably) becomes the Ducks coach in a couple years.
