Question for you: both Fantilli and Carlsson are playing in the World Championships, if Fantilli outplays Carlsson, will you change your mind since they are both playing similar competition?

Yes - I will change my mind

A better first step. Carlsson doesn’t play at the same pace in the zone, Fantilli goes at you, Carlsson makes methodical reads. A quicker acceleration is extremely useful in all three zones, but Fantilli will definitely fight more to get the puck back because he can get on top of you using his first few strides better than Carlsson.

You asked for somethin and you got it, hit the haha button lol

This is just hilarious - the top Euro prospect makes ‘methodical’ reads (apparently). I’m looking for a prospect that can see the game intelligently (something I don’t think our forward prospects really have), smart positionally and can be relied on in all situations.

Just because a player is quicker doesn’t necessarily mean they are better.

He has a better shot and projects to score more goals. He has much better acceleration and his overall skating ability is a cut above. He plays more physically than Carlsson and disrupts the defense more with his speed and checking.

I get the physicality aspect - but we are drafting someone who plays with an edge vs someone who has a complete 200 ft game?

My problem with our forwards is that almost none of them are defensively responsible. The ‘prizes’ two-way forward is on the table for you and we’re going to pass him over for someone who will potentially go back to school? We need the help now

There are uses for Fantilli that Carlsson can’t do as well with what i described. You’re not worth the time like i said.

I also missed that you discsrd Fantilli as not a 200 foot player. He’s a 200 player that’s also fast.

Obviously they'll do their due diligence and not draft him if he's serious about going back, but I'm going to assume that's ordinary posturing for now.

Bummer about Bedard but 2nd overall is still huge. If the Ducks draft Fantilli, I don't see any way that both he and McTavish won't be the top 2 centers eventually. Next season:

Zegras-McTavish-________
Henrique-Fantilli-Terry
Lundestrom-Strome-Vatrano
Jones-Carrick-McGinn / Various Prospects

Fowler- _________
________-Drysdale
________-LaCombe

If he doesn't commit to playing in NHL right away Ducks shouldn't draft him and risk another player we have drafted playing for another team later right out of college
There is literally 0% chance of this happening. The 2nd overall pick playing 4 years and picking his destination is unheard of.

And no need to mention Wheeler, we're not the Coyotes and Fantilli isn't from the east coast of America.

I would’ve been ok with a number of teams getting Bedard, but not a team that shouldn’t even have a first round pick. At the end of the day though, this is still a huge win. Fantilli is a Jack Hughes level prospect for me, and miles better than Carlsson and safer than Michkov. He won’t be an instant superstar, but 5 years from now everything will work out.

i would have still been upset but felt much better about the integrity of the NHL if any team outside of chi or mtl won and look where we are at......i would love to know the odds of no canadian team falling in the lottery when they were last as well as edmonton "winning" the mcdavid lottery....seems pretty "odd" to me....and why do we always fall in this "process" and never move up?.....what are the odds eh?

I think if you watch tape on both players you'll see that they are both better two way centers than pretty much anyone in the draft class. I can't honestly give the edge to either in terms of two way play based on what I've seen, they're both effective but different players. I like the way Carlsson plays, he's pretty much always in the right position on the ice. But Fantilli is no slouch defensively, he's got a motor and is constantly disrupting plays with his speed and and ability to read the ice. They're very different players, but on the two way C thing I think they'll both be effective. In terms of offensive upside though the edge goes to Fantilli.

Carlsson needs to improve his skating and his shot to reach his full potential. Fantilli has very few holes in his game that I can see. He's a really, really strong prospect. Franchise quality.

This whole Fantilli going back to college thing is just posturing. I will buy everyone on this board dinner if he plays another game at Michigan
There is nothing for him in college... he showed everything he needed to show last season.

I think ultimately hell be the pick for us... just too much upside to pass up.... and he will be playing pro hockey next year.

Devil's advocate here, because...well, I've had a few drinks and I haven't watched tape because I didn't want to commit to watching highlight reels.

Do we think there's a potential Byfield situation where Fantilli succeeds currently purely because he's "a man amongst boys"?

Not at all. I think he'll probably need time to adjust, but he's just too competitive and skilled to not make an impact. To elaborate more, he's got great hands, great acceleration, great skating and top speed, he controls the puck really well, makes plays, has a great shot and his compete is excellent. As soon as he joins the Ducks he's probably a better center than Z.

I guess well prob get a better idea after we watch some of these world championship games.

College is still a step up imo from jrs in terms of men and boys
