Overall I like the gameplay. Everything seems to happen a bit faster. My biggest concerns from that video are Doc's announcing(though admittedly I image video game commentary is very difficult to get right) and the physics. I hope the physics are tuned way up like they are in the demo every year. Around the two minute mark of the 2nd video should never happen. Two defenders go in the corner, hit a guy, then all three fall down I imagine the demo is going to have some hilarious moments where the physics are way off and everyone on each team is sprawling on the ice. I'm sure it won't be like that for the actual release.

Commentary for a fast paced sport like hockey is insanely hard to accurately convey. Even 2K had troubles with it in NHL 2K games, and they are the masters when it comes to commentary and presentation. Just look at NBA 2K and MLB 2K. Absolutely top notch phenomenal commentary and presentation. Although basketball and baseball are much easier from a commentary realism standpoint, especially with how NBA 2K is half court set after half court set with the lack of speed and live ball turnovers and baseball is just slow paced in general.

The physics... need to see a bit more before I make a judgement and the jerseys are way overdone with the "flapping in the breeze" effect. Oh, and the Leafs D looks very accurate with the Swiss cheese coverage and missed assignments .

I'm about to be really sad I traded in NHL 14 a couple months ago I think.

"1 team, 3 goals!" -- Brilliant commentary! Kidding, the commentary sounds terrible. The dangling looks silly as well. The hitting, the goals... just LOL.

Only two things I liked -- the intro (looks 100% real!), and puck physics looked solid with the way the puck acted on ice whether it was passes or shots.

Based on that, my very, very premature rating is a 5/10.
Next gen with no EASHL/GMC + that gameplay = 3/10.
360/PS3 with EASHL/GMC but no real improvements to gameplay = 7/10 since it's at least the tolerable NHL 14 we just had.

Guess I'd stay with XBox 360 NHL, but maybe just go re-purchase NHL 14 so as to not give EA my support. Yikes. First NHL game to potentially truly be a disaster!

I am now debating on whether to get the game or not. I preordered it awhile back on amazon and used up a $25 amazon coupon on it. I am now thinking i should just cancel it and use that coupon on Destiny.

You should. I already preordered the Destiny bundle (PS4). Then again, I'm a fan of Halo and an even bigger fan of Borderlands and the game is supposed to be a sort-of combination of the two, so I like it.

Why the **** would EA remove a game mode from the next gen game. Next gen games are suppose to be taking a step forward, not a step back. No wonder EA won the worst company of the year for two years straight.

EA is a garbage company. I would stop playing their games, but they have a strong grip on the games i do like.

I feel the same way about the wireless industry here in Canada (okay, US too since Time Warner and Comcast just merged). You have the Rogers/Bell/Telus with their ridiculously high prices and oligopolistic behavior that you wanna get away from so badly, but they control over 90% of the wireless industry so they have an iron tight grip on the industry.

I wonder if Edzo will do his classic "For all you young kids out there" on replays and sometimes freeze it and go "HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!!!"

It's an upgrade in pretty much every department in regards to it's predecessors so i don't know how it can truly be a disaster lol

Nobodies mentioned this, but it sounds interested at the beginning of part 1 where they talk about the newspaper/player actions.

Also sounds like they have actual goal horns now.

The choppiness reminds me of the Hughson/Simpson times with their one-liners.

"What a howitzer!" "Slams the door shut!" "Outoftheirdefensiveend." Wow those early to mid 2000's games had repetitive commentary but all it does now is add to the nostalgia.

Full time job, Master's Degree and working towards a Ph.D from one of the best universities on the planet and I'm upset that EASHL is likely gone. Please don't belittle those that enjoy the best game mode the EA NHL franchise has ever created.

EASHL isn't anywhere near "actual hockey". It's the most unrealistic game mode I've ever seen in a hockey game. Hell, playing against bots on easiest difficulty is closer to real hockey.

You know, I'm hoping that EASHL isn't in the game. All the kids can stay spamming glitch goals on PS3 and 360 while we, adults, play realistic stylish online versus.

I play both too! I'm just saying I've encountered a lot more kids in HUT than EASHL.

I love playing HUT and EASHL, and I'm not sure why they would remove either. But if for some reason EASHL is not in the game and HUT is then it won't be that bad. The game looks better than last years in my opinion.

Yeah, just based on what the features say on the back of the game box, it looks like pre-gen won't have Ray Ferraro OR any NBC features.

It looks like users of both consoles are getting screwed.

EASHL isn't anywhere near "actual hockey". It's the most unrealistic game mode I've ever seen in a hockey game. Hell, playing against bots on easiest difficulty is closer to real hockey.

You know, I'm hoping that EASHL isn't in the game. All the kids can stay spamming glitch goals on PS3 and 360 while we, adults, play realistic stylish online versus.

You going to back that up in any way, or just make a blanket statement because you know you don't have a case? EASHL rewards teamwork, rewards cycling, rewards positional defense(you know, things that actually happen in hockey). Versus is all about abusing the terrible AI. You can score nearly every time by skating up the wing, cutting to the middle, and shooting back across the goalie. You know what happens when you try that against a decent Club(or an NHL team)? You get clobbered. EASHL removes the series' biggest weakness, the AI. The defensive AI literally just skates backwards until you get right next to them. You're free to attack. You can only control one player in versus, meaning the 83% of the game is being controlled by EA's super realistic AI. Sooo realistic.
