Is Gallant proof or that a coach can have a tremendous impact? Why? He has — by far — the best depth in the league. And this league is all about depth. Depth gives you speed.

All shifts matter the same. I always cringe when I see complaints about a player being on like a 4th instead of a 3rd or whatever. It could perfectly be so that it’s more important to have a better 4th than to have a better 2nd. The 4th can be a lot more better than the 4th on the other team.
He has the best depth because suddenly guys who were throwaway players are way more under him. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that 20 or so guys are all suddenly much better playing under him.

He gets a 2 year grace period with me. First year is always a learning experience for the team and the new coach..it's not easy to gallant it into wins right off the bat. You hope to see drastic improvement in year 2. And then year 3 hoping to be a borderline playoff team..year 4 firm playoff team. Year 5 upper echelon team.

It is not always (or probably often enough) a straight line progression. It could be quite possible that the Rangers somehow make playoffs next year but then fall short in a following year, etc. But overall of course I agree that the team needs to show a significant progression.

Can’t believe someone would make an issue with a guy getting paid (or that the Rangers are willing to pay) for sacrificing his current situation with its built in comfort levels to leap into something with an unknown outcome. Also implying that he will not give his utmost best effort.

This. It may not work out. But I would be shocked if he gave anything less than his best effort.

This just isn’t the case. They have many very capable hockey players, both proven guys and guys that everyone knew was on the verge when they got them. Sorry but to state anything else is just childish.

Not to take anything away from Gallant, but the big take away from Vegas is the importance to have a complete and deep roster. Some trashing Vegas depth obviously haven’t seen them play lol, but I am not surprised by anything at this place anymore.

Vegas just have a completely different energy when they play. Winnipeg looked tired and worn out, it’s mid May, it’s not strange. But Vegas have had an abundance of guys — in their prime — all year. Sure, now they can ride some guys a little harder and go with more of a grinding 4th. But, their core has so much left in the tank.

Many teams that didn’t even make the playoffs have many very capable hockey players. That doesn’t explain why they’re where they are.

You saw Karlsson being a 40 goal player? JAM becoming a 70 point player? Haula skirting 30 goals? Miller scoring more than triple the points he scored last year?

You should have bet on them to win to start the year when they had 500-1 odds.

They were absolutely not thought to be even close to as good as they’ve been. Saying that anyone who didn’t see this coming is childish is really out there.

So much this.

I'm not saying that some companies don't treat their employees better than others but I think that the deciding factor for most people is money, promotions, or just getting a job. How many people actually go to a company that they hand pick? How many people even have that luxury?

Fair point. Should be easier.

I am so lost on these things, are there two colleges in Boston? What is the difference between them? Does both have the hockey teams. Sometimes its BU. Sometimes its the Terriers. Sometimes its BC. I don't get it.

Brooks: "Absent NHL coaching experience other than the one year (2012-13) he spent behind the Colorado bench as an assistant to Joe Sacco, Quinn likely will have experienced assistants by his side. At least he should. It is also important, though, for Quinn to have at least one person on the coaching staff with whom he has a personal connection."

Why the -- f*** -- is that important? Is it important for Ziba to play with someone on his line that he has a personal relationship too? His bro used to play, we should sign him instead of Kovalchuk.

My youngest daughter changed kindergarden. I was glad when I heard that two other friends did the same thing. Will help the transition. She is 4 years old... I would go as far as to say that its a fireable offense by Gorton to hire anyone with any kind of personal relationship with Quinn, just because you then risk not going for the top guys available. I wouldn't disqualify everyone who ever has been within the proximity of Quinn, i.e. in the same arena etc. But the first question asked in a interview should be -- have you ever said anything directly to David Quinn, 'Ok we will call you. Don't wait by the phone.'

There are a lot of schools in Boston. Some don't even play in the same conference (essentially a league).
Boston College, where amongst others, Kreider and Hayes went. They're the Eagles.
Boston University, where Shattenkirk went. They're the Terriers.
BC and BU are both in the same conference, along with Northeastern, also a Boston school.
Meanwhile, Harvard is in a whole other conference.
