He’s been sitting around for over a week. Why wouldn’t they have?
Because there is such a thing as practice/travel/etc even when they don't have a game scheduled.

Why interrupt your coaches preparations for their ECF just for an interview that could be done later?

If the Rangers want Keefe, he will very much likely still be available the minute the Marlies are eliminated/win the Cup.

Renaud Lavoie is claiming the Rangers are waiting to see what the Caps do with Barry Trotz before hiring a coach. Does this guy know anything or is he just speculating? Trotz doesn’t fit the Gorton criteria of being a fresh face and the Dolan criteria of being a developmental coach. Trotz is another retread.

Here is the google translation

What will Trotz do?
Is Barry Trotz in his last moments with the Capitals? We know he is finishing his four-year deal with the Washington team and even if it makes sense for him to stay with this team, more and more information is circulating that he may not be back. next season. Information that also explains why the Rangers are in no hurry to name their future head coach: they are trying to learn more about the future of Barry Trotz with the Capitals.

A coach of this quality will not remain unemployed for long, and it is clear that the team's management will want him to sign a long-term contract after the playoffs. But is his desire to stay in Washington? The answer will come in the coming weeks.

Because he has a worse playoff record than Vigneault and isnt a developmental coach

No offense, but those are pretty dumb reasons. There seems to be this notion that just because a coach has been around the block in the NHL, he's not "a developmental coach." Why don't you ask Evgeni Kuznetsov if Trotz is a "developmental coach?"

Anyway, I'm not really interested in Trotz in the first place, but I can see this board swaying towards a coach with zero NHL experience so everyone's hopes and dreams can be projected onto a blank canvas. In many ways, this is more risky than going with a guy like Trotz.

I mean I'm not offended but at the least the player development piece is something Gorton has specifically mentioned. If Gorton was to rebuild, I dont see how Trotz makes sense. When was his last rebuild?

I love we’re debating as if we will have the chance to reject a guy who is up 2-0 in the ECF. Maybe he’s available? But it seems funny to suggest he’s knocking at our door for a job this summer.
Maybe it's a red flag that he is up 2 0 in an ECF and he still may be on the way out?

I, on the other hand, think there is some there there. (Some of you may remember I got flamed on the last page because I suggested this very thing)

First of all, Lavoie is usually right more than he is wrong.

Second, Trotz is an excellent development coach. Look what he accomplished in Nashville through the years despite starting from scratch and having a low budget team. Look at all of the rookies and young players on the Capitals. This is a team that was written off this year because so many veterans walked. They look pretty good right now.

Trotz and Caps GM Brian McLellan apparently do not get along. Todd Rierden, the Caps assistant coach has already signed an extension. Trotz doesn't have one. What does that tell you?

WAG...they definitely want to know what is going on in Washington. If not Trotz, very possibly they will ask permission to interview Rierden.

IMO...he far from a tired old coach.

I'm very interested. (and I was yesterday too)

the question in Washington is this though: some of you may not remember this: but Nashville hadn't become a team yet, and where was Trotz, then? hint, the same city the Rangers just signed an affiliation deal with... now, Vegas took McPhee, who had been Poile's successor in DC and when Nashville released Trotz, IT may be rectifying a past oversight....

The only coach I know of and really like and want here is Paul Maurice, but he's got a steady job right now.

GO JETS GO!!

I can't see Trotz wanting to walk into a rebuilding situation. Chances are that if he is let go, he will be looking for a more competitive team.

I also don't see the Rangers being interested. RL is pretty reliable, but I think hes out to lunch on this one.

I have my doubts that RL would have inside info about the Rangers coaching search
yeah, guys like him and friedman are just throwing shit to see if it sticks in regards to this; even larry knows very little.

i dont think anyone truly knows who we want outside of dolan, slats, gorts, and captain quaalude

The coach who was the only coach of the predators from their inception until 2014 and kept them competitive [the most competitive of the 90s expansion] with weak mid pick drafting for all that time can't develop players?

He's also prob on his way to the SCF with up until now perma-second round exit Capitals.

Yes a Nashville team that got better once he left and a possible cup appearance with a Caps team who had almost all of their core pieces in place before he stepped foot behind their bench.

What good young players has he developed in Washington?

Kuznetsov Wilson for starters and that’s without thinking hard.

But if we don't get our guy, it won't ruin captain quaalude's Christmas.

Captain Quaalude's Christmas sounds like a sick Nick Jr musical.

This is so unbelievably obtuse.

And you answered your own snide, incredulous nonsense grab for the echo chamber attention in your own post.

Just terrible.

I think he was developing players in Nashville [the only 90's expansion team that wasn't a joke] while you were developing in your mother's uterus.

Anyway, I doubt he's coming here. All I asked was why people would be against him, and they are all wrong as usual. Surprise!

Trotz is a fine coach to me. He’s the best NHL option out of what may be available since Q was never fired. I can’t see Washington firing him after finally making the ECF.

I still don’t like him after the whole rearview mirror bullshit and because he looks like Dr. Eggman from Sonic
