I'd take him as a PP consultant for sure. But not as a head coach, I agree. How could anyone watch that Adam Oates coached Caps team lose to us a few years ago and want him anywhere near this team?

That would be a good core to build a team in the 90’s...a coaching staff, not so much.
Didn't they have that whole co-coach situation thing going on? Don't necessarily know if I want to model what we do after JerseyOates did a very good job as an assistant in NJ and is a tremendous instructor and the same goes for Scott Stevens. But I agree on Oates — he seems like a bit of a nutty.
How awesome would it be to have Chris Chelios as HC?

Really good insight. Thank you.Tippett did not get booted in Arizona. He was disgusted when Mike Smith was traded and Shane Doan was kicked to the curb. Tippett is a loyal hockey guy. He engineered his own exit.
Tippett's biggest sin was that he was sick of losing and he wanted the team to acquire more veteran players to help the team be more successful as well as help in the development of young players. He (like I) did not care for the strategy of ripping the team down to the studs. He had many games where he simply didn't have enough NHL players at his disposal. There were a number of nights the Coyotes put an AHL caliber team on the ice. Some of the worst hockey I have ever seen. It got so bad I cancelled my season tickets.
That all said, I don't think Tippett is the right choice, right now for the Rangers. He's suffered a lot of losing in his career. He wants to go to a place where he can win. This team is going to have some ups and downs in the next few years and may come out on the other side with a different coach.
*LITERALLY* no one knows but the Rangers FO.How many coaches did Gorton interview so far?
so wait, if the candidates they talked to had no idea they were being talked to, do we reallly want them to be the coach...*LITERALLY* no one knows but the Rangers FO.
i loled, but honestly do we think a guy like jim montgomery for example knows how many guys the rangers have interviewed exactly, outsude if himself? i doubt itso wait, if the candidates they talked to had no idea they were being talked to, do we reallly want them to be the coach...![]()

I don't believe so. IIRC, they changed this rule a year or so ago. The last instance was after Torts was hired by Columbus and Columbus had to send Vancouver a 2nd round pick. Will we have to give the Leafs any compensation for Keefe?
No. That rule no longer exists. Any compensation being given out for hiring coaches is for hirings that happened before the rule change. Will we have to give the Leafs any compensation for Keefe?
Well, that’s a load off my mind.https://nypost.com/2018/05/07/stanley-cup-winning-coach-is-not-buying-this-rangers-rebuild/
Disco Dan is not a candidate, in case you were wondering.
