Brooks is pushing Quinn but all other signs say no.

I think this Scott Gordon thing might have legs. I personally liked him. Thought he was a good young coach.

I don’t want Quinn.

I don’t trust any of these choices with the keys to car here. Very nervous about this selection.

Didn’t Gordon coach the US team at the Worlds the first year Kreider made the team? I think he put Wheeler with Stepan and they were awesome together.

It’s a bit sad that the Knicks started their search later, interviewed everyone and their uncle, and made their choice sooner than the Rangers.

Still pushing for Krupp and/or Sturm for no reason other than it would go completely against what we are used to see in the NHL. Krupp seems to have done a somewhat good job with Berlin and even though it's a comparably minor league I still think he could be a good coach at a higher level.

Sturm has kind of proven that he can adjust his inferior teams to superior opponents at the Olympics... gotta be worth something.

edit: nevermind, didn't realize Krupp has JUST (last week) been hired as Sparta Prague's new HC. Ah well...

Krupp... Uwe Krupp?

I remember him. Good player. I had no idea he was a coach these days. Love to hear that the “old” guys are still doing well.

Same here. He didn't appear to have done that well with Team Germany but seems to have improved year after year and got the Berlin Polar Bears into the finals of the DEL playoffs where they lost in Game 7 against Red Bull Munich (deep pocket team). Would have loved to see what he can do behind the bench over here but apparently he thinks moving on to the Czech Republic might be a better step forward at this time.

Sturm has expressed his desire to coach in North America so, who knows he might have an out clause in his contract with Team Germany. But then again, he's only been coaching for a total of what? 3 years? I'm still okay with giving fresh and different faces a serious look.

Hockey is still going on. Can't interview people who are currently coaching in other leagues. It's not an issue of laziness or something, there are candidates they're not allowed to talk to yet.

Gordon compared Stepan to Bergeron after the tournament.

Gorton said in one of the two radio interviews on April 9 that there are a few coaches who have fared better in their second opportunity. Sullivan and Cassidy. Maybe he views Gordon like those two coaches.

Yes I’ve always liked him then he disappeared off face of the earth.

I guess Tippett and Keefe make sense Dan Bylsma is going to get interviewed too I have no doubt.

Joe Sacco is going to be seriously considered. I know nothing about him as a coach. Sucked as a player

Gorton said he wants someone “fresh” to coach the Rangers. Tippett is another retread who clashed with Maloney in Arizona over personnel decisions. Maloney ended up losing his job.

Bylsma is terrible. Still don't feel like Tippett is right for this team currently. Still have a feeling they're looking at "new" coaches rather than retreads (and by retreads I mean long time NHL coaches that are looking for a job, not the "had a short NHL stint, went back and have had success in the AHL etc" coaches)

e: seems that there was a lot of back and forth about Tippet's time in Arizona and rumors that he was booted because he wasn't being as developmental for their young players as they wanted, but hard to say how much of that is true.

Tippett did not get booted in Arizona. He was disgusted when Mike Smith was traded and Shane Doan was kicked to the curb. Tippett is a loyal hockey guy. He engineered his own exit.

Tippett's biggest sin was that he was sick of losing and he wanted the team to acquire more veteran players to help the team be more successful as well as help in the development of young players. He (like I) did not care for the strategy of ripping the team down to the studs. He had many games where he simply didn't have enough NHL players at his disposal. There were a number of nights the Coyotes put an AHL caliber team on the ice. Some of the worst hockey I have ever seen. It got so bad I cancelled my season tickets.

That all said, I don't think Tippett is the right choice, right now for the Rangers. He's suffered a lot of losing in his career. He wants to go to a place where he can win. This team is going to have some ups and downs in the next few years and may come out on the other side with a different coach.

Really curious about this kind of attitude. Disgusted that Smith was traded? Why? That kind of stuff doesn't make sense. Smith was hardly a franchise player. Doan? Doan was aging and at some point teams gotta move on. They don't owe it to players to keep running them out there regardless of the level of their play. Maybe I'm forgetting something about the Doan thing.

Still, I'm not a fan of that kind of loyalty when it comes to coaches especially. It doesn't lend itself to realistic evaluations of players.

Fair, I find it tough to remember what exactly the Coyotes were doing with their roster at times, though it feels like they had money issues for awhile at least (couldn't spend enough to bring in those vets that Tippet wanted).

Also, I know coaches need to have some input and be involved in stuff like player selection, etc, but when it feels like the coach starts trying to be the GM as well I think that's a big issue.

Smith played extremely well in 2016-17. His stats don't begin to tell the whole story. On 6 or 7 occasions, the Coyotes won games while giving up over 40 SOG. The norm was 35-45 shots a night. Many nights Smith stood on his head only to lose 5-3. A little like Henrik's two games in Western Canada this year. OEL was a shell of himself in 2016-17 (his mother was gravely ill and subsequently passed) and Goligoski was useless for the first half of the season. That didn't help. Smitty can run hot and cold but for the most part when he was healthy, he gave the Coyotes good goaltending, usually under very bad conditions. Note how well he played in Calgary this year until he got hurt.

In Doan's case, it wasn't the fact that it was time for him to go but rather the shoddy way the team handled it. Tippett had eased Doan out of the lineup for much of the season and he also missed time with illness. He was still a good influence on the younger players though and someone the organization wanted to keep around in some capacity.

Tippett had the power. Or at least he thought he did. He was named the VP of Hockey Operations after Maloney left. His influence seemed to evaporate when the team was sold to Andy Barroway.
