I'm fine with players recognizing they need a coach that holds them accountable. I mean, why does any team have a coach if veteran players are supposed to run things like you guys suggest?

Fans have been saying the league is overcoached for years now...

This is a valid point; but, isn't it at least somewhat ironic that the team did in-fact have such a coach not all that long ago, and the players basically mutinied? Was it just him personally; or have these same players come to the realization that a Sutter-type really is best for their respective games...?

They went deep three years in a row and got two championships out of it. They went to war on the ice for those victories. They got comfortable and I guarantee the motivation to get back to that level just wasn't there for a lot of them. It's painful. It's exhausting. Vacation is shorter. More time away from home. More stress. It's a human response. What they're discovering, hopefully, is that it's really not that great being losers. Some of these guys weren't here for the really bad years. Brown's commentary about being drafted into a culture of not giving a shit about winning was really interesting. Notice how he keeps putting work in even if others don't.

The same players who quit on Stevens also quit on Sutter AND Murray. That'd how long those guys have been around.

They lack character. They needed a massive infusion of character and accoutability to be lifted out of just being happy to be in the first round, and now that the character and accoutability are gone, they are right back to where they were.

I think Sutter's personality and style were particularly abrasive. He's one of those coaches where people always say he has a short shelf-life (Hitchcock is another). And his style, while effective, did seem to grind the players down physically (and probably mentally). I think there's more than one type of coaching personality that can hold players accountable and "kick their asses" when necessary.

He's old school. Probably very verbally abusive like a drill sergeant.

Hurry, let's be good hockey fans and jump down his throat for daring to speak candidly....
I like that he spoke candidly - but he has shown the least amount of hustle out of the entire roster over last 2 seasons - so its funny. Its also an indictment of the leadership of this team not just the coaching.

my money is on sturm.
if he doesn't get the job, he will be back training the german national team.

regarding that matter, can we borrow Sturm for a while this summer?

So the practices are pathetic, which use to be a strength under Sutter/Murray. I remember the Canucks players commenting on how hard the Kings practice around 2014. Also now Doughty is asking to be held accountable, wasn't Doughty happy that Stevens was a lighter touch and a players coach ?

Is this from a hockey themed Dr. Who episode?

Hold on a second - so Sutter is tough on everyone and they get tired of him - so the Kings bring in mellow coaches like Stevens and WD and now they want a tough coach again? I am baffled.
Same way people constantly bitch about having to go to work, but when they're unemployed they're desperate to work.

Would be awful if LA outbids Buffalo for McL. The guy is obviously using the Kings to pump up his price in the marketplace. I bet he gets the same dollars from the sabres for a shorter contract. Let him take it. Also, he was HC when Blake took over from Marleau as Sharks captain. And I don’t know why he gets a pass for the Oilers playing an outdated, heavy style if the GM gets blame there.

Vigneault is a solid candidate in my books. He took vet heavy teams in Vancouver and NYR to a lot of regular season success and several deep runs. He’s outside the .org and had accomplished a lot in major markets. I hope Blake signs him.
