So the guys that just wanted to have fun got their fun coaches and it turned out to not be so fun after all. I welcome the change in attitude if it's genuine. I welcome any effort by the players to evaluate where they are in their individual games and do something about it from their end and if we get a coach that can provide structure which also allowing players to feel comfortable with taking the initiative when it calls for it, we could have a decent team again. A lot has to go right though.

Now why would a young team hire him?

Everyone should rejoice. Or, maybe it means Blake can't even hire a friend. Either way, Blake sucks.

We all new this was a problem in training camp and it just got worse as the season went on. This is the worst passing team I've ever seen.

They sucked at passing back in 2012-2014 too. It's just that sometimes it worked. DL didn't build a team on skill.

True , but the league wasn't a speed game then, when you could afford 3 or 4 passes and stil get into the zone. Now it's 2 and your in the zone with the fast teams.

how does a professional sports organization hire a coach that doesnt know how to run a practice

Kopitar, Brown, Carter, Clifford, Lewis, Doughty, Martinez, and Quick have all been here forever. Toffoli, Pearson, and Muzzin were around for another Cup. That's more than half of the roster. Not to mention Thompson and Phaneuf. These aren't children.

here's an interesting plot twist. I hope Blake has a plan B because honestly I can't think of anyone who could be a possibility.

This meme refuses to die. Speed has always mattered. There was more interference then than now.

They aren't kids. They're also not coaches.

I'm thinking outside the box but, a guy like Lane Lambert (longtime assistant to Barry Trotz) would be interesting. Might not hire someone until the playoffs are over depending on who they could be targeting.

Maybe they try to pluck an assistant coach from Tampa.

Alain Vigneault if they go the recycled coach route.

It'll be an empty suit like Eakins.

Then don't get tired of the hard ass you won with, only to want a hard ass back again.

Hell, Kopitar and Doughty basically own the team now. If the practice is so bad, go yell at upper management to get someone that knows what they're doing. The suits literally can't do anything to you, go use your power.

Plot twist. We all thought it was a done deal. McLellan going to Buffalo now. Wonder who the Kings will hire then?

Maybe they'll do something more creative like an AHL coach who isn't a failed NHL head coach (I assume the Ducks will hire Eakins after the Gulls run is over) or maybe even a really successful CHL coach.

Well sometimes you gotta stick the fork in the light socket to know it's a bad idea.

Or maybe Kopitar & Doughty could, I dunno, lead by example? 21 million season should buy you a little leadership out of those two.

I think we all like Stothers as he has great soundbites and doesn't seem like a candy ass when it comes to accountability. He certainly played the game the right way when he was on the ice.

Is he a good coach though? Would the vets eat up a guy without NHL coaching experience or do they respect him because he has playing experience and was a tough guy? It is kind of interesting to see two tough guys in Tocchet and Berube doing well.

Maybe @regulate can shed some light on Stothers as a coach? If they don't get McClellan, then what other retreads are out there that are worth getting?
