Mayor tweeted 3 names to keep an eye on if TMac doesn't come here; Bylsma, Hartley and Roy. Not sure how I'd feel about that...

Pretty bullshit statement from Helene - it's pretty clear that she has no idea how a competitive sports TEAM works, especially when a head coach loses that team early on and has no idea that he even lost them in the first place.

I'm on board the Pat Roy train for sheer entertainment value alone.

Bylsma and Hartley are a giant "no" from me, although Bylsma totally fits in with Kings management being overrun by dudes that played for LA between 1996 and 2003.

Not surprised T.Mac wants to coach Buffalo instead of LA.

LA doesn’t seem to be an attractive job since there’s A LOT of dysfunction, this aging core has a history of tuning out coaches, locking them out of locker rooms and chewing coaches out during a break from the game.

I honestly don’t think things get better until we get rid of this aging entitled core and get new management in place. The former needs to happen ASAP.

Just shows how far down the popularity ladder the Kings job is right now. Any coach coming here isn’t exactly inheriting a team that’s inspired or deep at the moment.

Who would you rather be coaching? The Sabres and that core of younger players or the unmotivated guys we have?

Just write me the check. I don't care which team.

Paraphrasing a bit here but...

Doughty, 09-08-17:
"We needed a coaching change... I shouldn't say Darryl didn’t like it, but he definitely would have liked me to be more serious in certain situations, but I just can't play the game that way. I like that I have fun playing the game..."

Kings' Doughty supports Sutter firing: 'We needed a coaching change'

From Rosen: "Doughty leading off the final media day of the season. He is in favor of a coach that would “kick our ass a little bit.”

It's pretty clear that the remaining pieces of the core won 2 cups in large part due to Lombardi's supporting character acquisitions: Mitchell, Scuderi, Greene, Williams, Stoll, & Richards. The majority (certainly not all) of the remaining pieces MAY still have some championship talent left in the tank but they collectively do NOT have the necessary leadership qualities that lead to a Stanley Cup run... at least not enough that they can pass on to the younger guys by themselves.

Can any coach out there bridge some of that gap? Maybe, but its on Blake to find the right mix of bringing in 3-4 kids with NHL skill, moving out 3-4 vets with term and THEN replacing them with 3-4 new vets with that missing character/leadership... that's a HUGE ask.

I don't think the two quotes are necessarily incompatible.
