I still enjoy the shootout, they just have to be consistent on rules of it. I still can't believe that one time Briere stopped on a dime and went by Moose and they allowed it. Dumbest stuff ever.

Daugavins' move was great, though. He nearly scored with it, who cares if it looked ridiculous?

I don't want my favorite sport to look ridiculous.

Maybe they should go to a "slam dunk contest" format. Most creative goal wins.

yes!! a 3 personal, celebrity panel of judges decides how creative the attempt is! viewers can call in our text their vote! and we wont know who wins until a week later, when we have a 'results show'! sign me up!!

I want to see Kovalchuk leap a Ford Fusion, blindfolded, with the puck balanced on his head before hitting the puck with the nub of the stick like a billiard ball through the five hole. Hell, if we're not gonna decide a game by playing hockey, let's go the whole 9, right?

To be the contrarian on this, that move got hockey some positive attention, and usually the only attention hockey gets in the regular season comes from suspendable acts. A regular ol' 2-2 tie would have gotten zero mainstream attention but this did.

And if you don't want to see this move, well goalies like Rask stopping it ensues it won't be tried.

I'd much rather see a shootout than a tie. At least every hockey game has a winner and loser. I would be in favor of extending the OT though (to 10 mins, followed by a 5 minute 3 on 3, and THEN a shootout.) It would insure that it doesn't happen too often because as it is now - shootouts aren't a novelty because they happen all the time.

i have no problem with the move. If rask had better awareness, he would have realized that the puck cant be lifted with his stick in the position. He could have just layed across the crease with his skate on either post and stopped the puck.

How about getting the zamboni out on the ice before OT starts? Fresh layer of ice, and it would probably take longer. Maybe a 5-7 minute intermission.

The problem with the shootout is how often it happens. 4on4 OT for 5 minutes on awful ice is not gonna end many games before a shootout. I'd much rather wait 10 minutes and see 10 minutes of fresh-ice hockey, and I'd hope that it would lead to more goals scored in OT.

3 on 3 though, trust me, you don't want it. It's really boring. There's a minor pro league with a team in my town and they do 3 on 3 after 4 on 4, and then a 5-man shootout. The 3 on 3 is always the worst part. Everyone's dead tired after the 4 on 4 and there's less passing lanes. It might be fun for the teams with guys like Malkin who can outplay 3 guys, but for everyone else it's just tedious.

Yup this is what I'm saying! Get some fresh ice out there for the OT, and we'd probably see more OT endings.

why is OT only 5 minutes anyway? Thats like watching a hot girl take her shirt off and right before you see the goods, she decides to flip you the bird and walk away. It ends right before it gets good

3 on 3 would be so much more exciting than a shootout. Loved the 30 seconds of it in OT when we played Buffalo(?).

Agreed, and players should ignite into flames when they score a hat trick. Also if you lose a fight, you should be ejected from the game. The other guy gets no penalty.

If they want to give that lame extra point do it at the end of OT. I'd be down with 10 minutes of 4 on 4 OT.

As would I, but I don't think they want to make the players go that long when they might have a back to back.

Seriously though, they should remove the instigator rule.

I assume alot has to do with travel arrangements needing ot be kept especially when it comes to West teams

For instance when a Hawks game ends sometimes in Calgary/Edmonton they have to get on plane and fly to West coast for game in Cali and usually they would rather fly out ASAP
