Roman Cervenka heading to the KHL. Here's funny quote...

Cervenka reportedly getting something around 5 million per year on a three year deal with SKA. Was kinda surprised when he opted to sign with the Flames this year. One, his agent probably should have told him the strong likelihood of a prolonged lockout. Secondly, he was still subject to an ELC contract with only 925K guaranteed.

If he had waited to give the NHL a try this upcoming season, he wouldn't have had any ELC restrictions (he turned 27 in December).

@DarrenDreger: @adater. Interesting read. I keep hearing things are still tracking in direction of P. Roy as head coach of Avs.

I'm not sure what to think about Padrick Roy as a head coach in the NHL.

Personally I hope he falls on his face.

I don't have any hard feeling for him. Not after the payback in the 02 WCF when the Dominator, and the Red Wings got through with him, and embarrassed the hell out of him in game 7. His dropping the puck out of his glove and into the net that series was vintage also.

Sorry but when OTHER TEAMS are the ones issuing the "payback" and not the Devils, it's just not the same. :help:

Proper payback would've been for the Devils and Avs to meet the following year in the finals again with the Devils beating Roy's ass but as we all saw, nothing occurred according to plan....

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure we were shutout by him twice the following two seasons after which were the last times we played him. He was in the entire teams head, and we never beat him again. Which is funny because the Devils or at least with Marty had a winning record against him before that. It seems they still had their way with us a lot over the years even after he's been gone. We still seem to struggle against the Avalanche. Who can forget that pathetic blowout last time we were in Denver last year?

I'm also pretty sure we chased him twice during the regular season of that same year. I remember us discussing this last year when talking about how we beat the Kings twice in the regular season.

I can still remember the first game. Living out here in California, the only time I could see the Devils was when they were on ESPN and that was one of them. Elias got a hat trick in that game and got the 3rd goal against Aebischer. I can still picture that goal. Patty is in close on a rebound opportunity and goes backhand high. Aebischer gets most of it, but it squeaked across the goal line.

Good old college days watching it on my roommate's crappy 19" TV.

Yeah I thought so! Checked hockey reference, and we were actually shutout twice by Roy in 01-02 in 2-0 losses both times, and then scoring just one goal on him in a 3-1 loss in February of 03. Joe Nieuwendyk scored the only goal. Funny enough that he was not on that 00-01 team. That was the last time we faced him as he retired after that year. Those were the last 3 times we played Roy after the 01 SCF.

I remember the first game in November 01 pretty good cause it was at home, and the first rematch after the previous years SCF. It was hyped up pretty good. Dano had a breakaway that game after exiting the penalty box. Real hard stop for Roy that was.

Yeah there was really no chance for payback in the traditional sense, although 2003 made up for 2001 to me. The closest Marty'll get to payback is obliterating almost all of Wah's records.

I predicted early in 01-02 that the Avs would do what the Devils and Stars did the two previous years. Go back to the SCF, and lose. Just run out of gas at the end. Right before the WCF started that year though I went back on it, and said they'll be done in that series and won't even get to the cup. No way Hasek would be denied a chance to play for the Stanley Cup for the first time, and now that he finally had a good team. Not at the hands of the fatigued Avalanche.

Remember that was the 4th straight year that the Avalanche played in the WCF, and also the 6th year out of 7. They made at least the Western Conference Finals in 96, 97, 99, 00, 01, 02. They won the cup in 96, lost to Detroit in 97, and 02, lost to Dallas in back to back years in 99, and 00, and beat us in 01 in the SCF. That's a lot of playoff games, and wins for the Avalanche/Roy. That's why Marty was blown out of the water by Roy in playoff wins. Marty was on pace after the 03 SCF to catch Roy, but all the unsuccessful playoff years, and teams we had put the kibosh to that.

Roy only has one more cup than Marty, but many of the Devils teams that weren't cup winners/cup finalists did not have playoff success. When you think of the late 90s and late 00s one and done teams we had. Including the first round Canes loss in 02, and Flyers first round loss in 04.

Why do I think this experiment will fail miserably? I could be wrong. I thought Oates would flop as a head coach, and it looked like he was for the first 5-6 weeks of the season. I was wrong there.

Roy

his butterfly turned goaltending into ****

Is he going to send out Varlamov to go beat up the opposition's goalie?

He also started the humongous equipment movement too. I called him Padrick Roy cause back in the early-mid 90s he started bulking up his gear.

Despite that I really did like the guy. I rooted for the Avs in 96 cause of Claude. I didn't hold any hard feelings over him after the 01 SCF, but it did feel good to see the Dominator, and Detroit have their way with him like a blow up doll in 02. Especially that game 7 when he let in a bunch of BRUTAL goals, and looked like his career was just about over. Their series against Minnesota in 03 his last one when they choked away a 3 games to 1 lead to the Wild was especially fun too.

I just remember being happy because a local Denver writer Mark Kiszla wrote some asinine article before the series. Trying to find it, but hard to find stuff from 2003. His article was basically a series preview and his he concluded with something along the lines of "Losing to Minnesota? Don't be stupid."

I remember that! Terry Frei of the Denver Post was another one too. I'm pretty sure it was him who talked **** on the Devils for years.

One thing I'm just thinking about. Does anyone find it funny the NHL the last few seasons has been scheduling us to play Dallas, and Colorado twice? Played both twice in 11-12, played Dallas twice in 10-11, played both twice in 09-10 also. Does this have something to do with the cup matchups? We usually aren't scheduled to play the Wings or Ducks multiple times a year though.

I always hate playing the Avalanche. Team is a corpse of nobody's right now aside from a couple younger guys like Duchene, Landeskog, Varlamov, and Stastny. Hejduk has been there forever, but he's a ghost now. I always hate playing them cause we always no show against them it seems. One time I remember Patty getting hurt there a few years ago too.

I hope Roy doesnt embarrass his goalies like he got embarrassed that night in Montreal. What goes around comes around with his quirky **** and superstitions.

I still remember watching that game he got cremated in Montreal....more holes than Swiss cheese

Game 7 against Detroit in the 02 WCF was much better than that one. I just remember all everything getting through him. He didn't even look fatigued like Marty or Belfour looked the two years before. He just looked done. He had a good last regular season the next year, but once again looked silly in the playoffs.
