Maybe, but there’s only so much he can do with that roster. This hire was more about locking Montgomery up before someone else snatched him up.
So, like I said, great hire by St Louie

Another weird flex by a fan of the New York Islanders. Can’t you recognize Lou’s smoke and mirrors act?

Hey he’s a HOF executive for stuff he did once upon a time.

STL won the Cup based one giant hot streak. Good for them.

However, that GM soon to be President lost Taransenko, O’Reilly, and Piterangelo, signed a soon to be over the hill defense and locked it in, and went all in on a flash in the pan goalie that’s borderline ECHL-esque. Notice all the top players moved on after they won and knew Binnington was sticking around. He’s literally holding a .900 sv percentage, outside his one hot streak, since winning. That’s awful and 100% on the GM (this after he was all in on Jake Allen for years).

Armstrong created some faux succession plan to appease the owner to keep fans butts in the seats. What other team in professional sports announces a succession plan in THREE years - that’s called marketing.

And just like Lou, his handpicked AHL successor just got tossed. So, is it the roster or the coach? He’s gone all in on a player that cried to the media over criticism. Ouch.

You brought in Lou, I made a single statement, not a comparison, but in the end Lou never publicly announced a succession plan (no team presidents and GMs do this and even the STL media thought it was weird when it was done).

Armstrong has lasted out of loyalty. Why? Because the owner was a minority shareholder that did not have the money to take majority control. As the valuation of the team increased and they won a Cup, he was able to slowly chip away and now has majority control. Most people stay loyal to a guy that made them like that. But their on ice product has suffered due to poor decision making year over year. Armstrong needed to do something to keep butts in the seats. So, come on down succession plan.
