Maybe, but there’s only so much he can do with that roster. This hire was more about locking Montgomery up before someone else snatched him up.
So, like I said, great hire by St Louie

Another weird flex by a fan of the New York Islanders. Can’t you recognize Lou’s smoke and mirrors act?

Hey he’s a HOF executive for stuff he did once upon a time.

STL won the Cup based one giant hot streak. Good for them.

However, that GM soon to be President lost Taransenko, O’Reilly, and Piterangelo, signed a soon to be over the hill defense and locked it in, and went all in on a flash in the pan goalie that’s borderline ECHL-esque. Notice all the top players moved on after they won and knew Binnington was sticking around. He’s literally holding a .900 sv percentage, outside his one hot streak, since winning. That’s awful and 100% on the GM (this after he was all in on Jake Allen for years).

Armstrong created some faux succession plan to appease the owner to keep fans butts in the seats. What other team in professional sports announces a succession plan in THREE years - that’s called marketing.

And just like Lou, his handpicked AHL successor just got tossed. So, is it the roster or the coach? He’s gone all in on a player that cried to the media over criticism. Ouch.

You brought in Lou, I made a single statement, not a comparison, but in the end Lou never publicly announced a succession plan (no team presidents and GMs do this and even the STL media thought it was weird when it was done).

Armstrong has lasted out of loyalty. Why? Because the owner was a minority shareholder that did not have the money to take majority control. As the valuation of the team increased and they won a Cup, he was able to slowly chip away and now has majority control. Most people stay loyal to a guy that made them like that. But their on ice product has suffered due to poor decision making year over year. Armstrong needed to do something to keep butts in the seats. So, come on down succession plan.

Maybe Lou needs to announce some kind of succession plan, or anything else that would keep Isles fans asses in the seats of UBS Arena. Fans who keep waking up to this interminable Groundhog Day the team has been stuck in since 2021.

Today I’d trust Doug Armstrong at the helm a hell of a lot more than Lou Lamoriello.

Probably better to make roster adjustments before press releases.

I’d rather have the Isles problems and roster vs STL. I’d take Lou over Armstrong.

Whether it’s Lou or someone else, the Isles need to shake up this roster AND not the fringe players.

With that Friedman note from earlier - the standards are so wildly higher over in Rangers-land.

Throttle in shambles that Carolina and NJ are good this season
Nah, most people considered CAR at risk of the playoffs, but is that really their goal at this point? They can’t even get into the finals on an annual basis.

The Devils, long season, how long can they keep up outscoring their average goaltending? They did that two seasons ago, then folded in the playoffs. My guess is that happens again. Marstrom/Allen with their pedestrian .908 ain’t scaring anyone.

And no one believed Washington would be in a playoff spot right now, let alone 5th in the league. No one.

I will agree that Carolina are paper tiger frauds for crumbling against the Rangers year after year

Who's getting into the finals on an annual basis?
Let me clarify, for all the hype of Carolina, they haven’t even made the finals and have had some debilitating conference finals exits.

So, they are very good in the regular season bc their style of play works in that environment. It has not yet translated into a finals appearance. But, they’ll try again with the same style.

The Athletic published an article on the cap situations, from best to last.

The Islanders are ranked dead last in the league.

Here are few points:
- Among the fewest wins in the league
- 3rd last in goals per game
- Brutally poor special teams
- Pricey goaltending tandem that produce league average stats
- Among the oldest rosters in the league
- Committed w/ term to several of the worst overpayments
- Tough RFA calls coming
- Top 2 scorers, who are under several of the better contracts, to become well-paid UFAs soon

Kind of feels like this write-up was written a few games ago.
