How the heck did the Rangers get a first for a player that requested a trade in Lundqvist? Nice job by the Dallas gm.Talk about an overpay…sheesh!

Absolutely brutal overpay by Dallas. Feels like desperation with this trade.

Drury had almost zero leverage. I was thinking he would be lucky to get a late second, let alone a first AND a mid rounder.

Lundqvist is such a flawed player, he might have some offensive game, if given significant PP time, but he is not good defensively and gets tossed around the ice.

It is a shame that both Nils and Klingberg are right-handed, otherwise Dallas could play them both together and lose games 8-7. In Colorado-Dallas games, where Georgiev is starting, bet the over I guess.

Just goes to show, you only need one dumb GM AND there is always a team looking to help the Raggies out.

Makes me feel a bit better about the Romanov deal, not that I needed to feel good about it. But I have more confidence in Romanov being an NHLer based off his body of work than Lundkvist’s.

Absolutely. Lundkvist might end up with more points, but he will probably be on the ice for twice as many goals. Awful trade from the Dallas side.

You mean based off the fact that Romanov is already a full-time NHLer?

Wonder if both Chara and Subban were hoping to continue playing but didn’t get interest (Chara limiting his options to eastern conference playoff contenders probably doesn’t help). Both waited until today to announce their retirements.

Klingberg being with Anaheim is a bigger barrier than his handedness here

For those that don't know, Subban and Chara announced their retirements today.

I saw on TSN.com towards the top of the page that Yandle and Kurtis Gabriel retired. Those headlines were just after the one with Dubas saying the Leafs' goal is to win the Cup. Then I scrolled further down the page and saw that Subban and Chara also retired.

Wow that’s equivalent to 2.5 Baileys.
We already have half a Bailey, so I guess McKinnon is 5 times better than him?

😆 it has been a looong couple days at work this week, forgot they bounced him this off-season. Well, they have the perfect, all-offense replacement. Shouldn't miss a beat in the defensive zone, with a lot of goals against.

On a related note, this will not affect the status of Bode Wilde. He still sucks.

Does he though? Could it be possible his developmental issues are due to how the islanders handled the whole situation?

I mean look, the vaccine he didn’t want to get isn’t even an issue now.

Honestly I don’t know if he sucks or not just kinda feel bad for the kid.

Wait? The Leafs goal is to win the cup? What kind of crazy talk is that? Do the other teams have goals too? Being respected handshakers isn't enough for some organizations!! Do other teams want to win also?

What the hell is going on out there!

Well, there are Canadian teams in the AHL and ECHL as well, so there may be that...

Rather than start a new thread, I thought I’d throw this out there.

Wilde’s stock is clearly down from his original second round status. If he could be flipped now for a fourth round pick would anyone do it?

I suspect most of us would rather keep him and let it play out.

I shared my thoughts on the Wilde situation earlier today here:

If Wilde isn't in camp, then I'd have to think that he's available for another team to acquire, but there may be no market for him just now.

It is incumbent on the organization to resurrect this kid as a viable prospect, certainly his development was delayed as the result of a bad high ankle sprain and then being banished to another hemisphere couldn't have helped. With Lou having traded away so many draft picks and our cupboard pretty bare giving up on a 2nd round pick that has oodles of talent is foolish, maybe he doesn't process as well as others but Id rather be a bit more patient given his age and I'd also like to see him in Bridgeport playing in our system after all Thompson's been pretty good developing D-men.

People say Wilde had such a terrible year last year in the Allsvenskan, but as a defenseman he had a better points-per-game than Holmstrom did as a forward in the same league a couple of years ago. I don't know the specifics of ice time, etc., but looking purely at the numbers:

Holmstrom: 11GP - 2 pts, followed the next season in the AHL with 68GP - 43 pts.

Wilde: 40GP - 10 pts (plus in the playoffs, 7GP - 3 pts).

As others have said, let's just see how it plays out. But the kid has a great combo of size and skating for a RHD, and remember that he was considered a bit of a "project" pick when drafted. Patience Grasshopper.
