Consider that we don't know the internal pressures involved here. I'm not sold on their need for him, but there might have been a mandate or directive from up-top to pick up a big name for whatever reason. He hadn't been there very long to assess things, and making a major deal like this feels like it was already in the works to some extent.
That's a good point. We (I) tend to act sometimes like GMs have the final say on everything, when in reality they work for the guys with the millions/billions who probably have their own opinions/desires. For example, for all we know Lou wants to tear it down and do a rebuild and ownership won't let him, so instead he posts here under an assumed name to vent his frustrations.
Would you rather be the islanders and score 1 goal and win, or the capitals and score 1 goal and lose? Or would you rather be the penguins and score 3 and lose in typical dubas roster building fashion? Seems like some of you around here would choose the latter
The amount of people clamoring for the Doug Weight days is insufferable, lol...and before they start crying, "That's not what I'm saying!" ...it's what you are saying.

I have said many times on this board. Doug Weight Hockey forever eliminated my agreement with the common refrain that... "at least it's more exciting losing 7-6 (big score) than 2-1 (low score)!"
The simple fact is... a 7-6 hockey game means you just witnessed your team perform a bunch of asshatery! You don't give up that many goals without making some glaring mistakes. Asshatery is not exciting, it's frustrating.

Totally agree, except I fell like 'asshatery' should have two t's, in 'asshattery' simply because it would jive with English spelling rules when it comes to long vowel and 'magic' e. 100% agree with the rest. Mat Barzal getting 85 points and winning the calder was only a consolation prize to a terrible season. And let's not forget we lost a lot of those games 7 or 8-2, not just 7-6 lol.

lol…. Was late at night for me when I wrote that. Let’s just say I meant to leave the extra “t” off to represent Weight’s attention to defensive detail.
I know this isn't Earth Shattering news and many people already felt that way/knew but if you follow the Rangers it's pretty much official now with the ship sailing on him being anything in the NHL. Many Ranger fans, myself included, still had a glimmer of hope for him coming into the year...

That's some good research:
No more excuses.
The brightest hope this guy has right now is to (slightly) out score Nail Yakupov over his first 4 seasons.
No more "he just needs more powerplay time".
No more "he just needs different linemates".
It's over. Lafreniere is definitively in the discussion for worst #1ovr pick in NHL history.
