Would you rather be the islanders and score 1 goal and win, or the capitals and score 1 goal and lose? Or would you rather be the penguins and score 3 and lose in typical dubas roster building fashion? Seems like some of you around here would choose the latter

Rick Tocchet is unhappy with Anthony Beauvillier's slow start to the season. Connor Garland wants out of Vancouver. SOP for the Canucks again.

Beauvillier has gone from promising prospect to disappointing veteran in the blink of an eye. I'll always like him but he's just never been able to find consistency.

Garland would be a welcome addition to either move Holmstrom down or Fasching out of the lineup but he makes too much money. He'd have to be a deadline deal with retention in order to fit on the roster. I'm sure there will be better/different options available at that time too.

Anyone see Pitt-Detroit? Boy would DeBrincat have fit Bo/Matt

My god, I wanted him so bad. Would've been such a PP threat as well.

He was only consistent come playoff time, which is bizarre. Extremely thankful for that.

Why is it always an either/or question with the Isles?

I want the Islanders to have the best team possible. Built to compete against the NHL's best teams. I don't think we are. So shoot me.

I’d like a complete all star lineup on the islanders as well. However it’s just not the reality. No team has that.

So again I ask you, why is it an either/or proposition?

At a STH meet n greet with Lou in March of 2022 I submitted a question they used first. "As the game and the league evolves, what is your plan for making the Islanders younger, faster, more skilled?" Then Lou went on to give me his orchestra analogy followed by asking "do you think 8-6 games are fun?"

Is there no middle ground?

In Lou's defense, over his years here I think he recognizes the need and has tried to add more skill but has been unsuccessful in getting a Panarin or a Kadri or a Gaudreau. in UFA. But since then he has made some signings that tie up the cap and hinder us from adding that kind player in the future. So if a trade comes along for a player that could add some speed and skill Lou's hands are tied.

This is just a hunch after 4 games but I don't think Erik Karlsson is gonna help keep the puck out of PIT's net but I'm no boy genius GM
I was not one of the posters bad-mouthing Karlsson when he was available, however I just don't see why PIT went after him. Their biggest issues were goaltending and bottom 6 forwards, and they went out and got a RHD who brings a lot of what they already get from Letang. But chemistry doesn't seem to be one of Dubas's strengths....

Kinda like how he went out and got a C who brought a lot of what they already got from Matthews, Marner and Nylander when he really needed D or goaltending? Methinks there is a formula error somewhere in one of his spreadsheets....

Consider that we don't know the internal pressures involved here. I'm not sold on their need for him, but there might have been a mandate or directive from up-top to pick up a big name for whatever reason. He hadn't been there very long to assess things, and making a major deal like this feels like it was already in the works to some extent.
