It's early still but Boston and Minnesota are looking like they might be reading a bedtime story for the Buffalo and Washington season. Those two teams are going to need a miracle to get in if they lose today.

I can see the Pens completely collapsing too

Then it's us and Panthers battling to avoid Boston
Let the Panthers have the Hurricanes. They can skate each other silly. I'd rather take my chances with the Bruins.

Boston crushes Buffalo 7-0. Minnesota still leading Washington by two, 3-1 nearing the end of the second. I hope they can hang on.

I think 92-94 points might be enough this year to get in. 6-4-1 over the last 11 oughtta do it, hell even 6-5 might be enough if PIT continues to stumble. 93 points should be the safe goal to aim for the rest of the way.

If we finish with 93 points, PIT would need to get 16 points over their last 13 games to pass us due to the RW tiebreaker we own over them (Our 31 to their 25) and Florida would likewise need 17 points in 13 games and overtake our RW lead (they currently have 30).

For reference, in their last 13 games PIT has gotten 15 points (7-5-1). FLA's been hot as can be with 17 points in their last 13 (8-4-1) but even if they replicated that they would still need to overtake the tie breakers from the Isles to pass us if we hit 93 points.

Therefore, 93 is my absolute bare minimum magic number they should aim for to be reasonably comfortable.

Just clarifying, is the tiebreaker for RWs or ROWs? I thought it was ROWs. If so, we're up on both PIT and FLA by 36 to 33 in ROWs. It probably should be RWs though, just because that's actual full team hockey and not 3on3 BS.

Speaking of RWs reflecting actual hockey, our RW record actually compares favorably to teams pretty far ahead of us in total point (eg., NJ and NYR).

First tiebreaker these days is RW's, as it should be. Ah to hell with it here's the full list of tiebreakers because you know as Isles fans it'll come down to the very last one on this list on the very last day of the season.

Tie-Breaking Procedure

If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season, the standing of the clubs is determined in the following order:

  1. The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage).
  2. The greater number of games won, excluding games won in Overtime or by Shootout (i.e., "Regulation Wins"). This figure is reflected in the RW column.
  3. The greater number of games won, excluding games won by Shootout. This figure is reflected in the ROW column.
  4. The greater number of games won by the Club in any manner (i.e, "Total Wins"). This figure is reflected in the W column.
  5. The greater number of points earned in games against each other among two or more tied clubs. For the purpose of determining standing for two or more Clubs that have not played an even number of games with one or more of the other tied Clubs, the first game played in the city that has the extra game (the "odd game") shall not be included. When more than two Clubs are tied, the percentage of available points earned in games among each other (and not including any "odd games") shall be used to determine standing.
  6. The greater differential between goals for and against (including goals scored in Overtime or awarded for prevailing in Shootouts) for the entire regular season. This figure is reflected in the DIFF column.
  7. The greater number of goals scored (including goals scored in Overtime or awarded for prevailing in Shootouts) for the entire regular season. This figure is reflected in the GF column.

Thanks. And yeah, that is better. I guess they changed that within the past few years and I didn't notice.
Yes pretty sure it was last year it changed to RWs (still weird to see head to head as the 5th tie breaker but I guess it makes sense given there is the loser point to make RW>OTW> shoot out Wins for tiebrekers.

Sheesh, rags with 6 in the first and still 6 mins to go
And Devils losing again. Maybe they have hit the wall?

Although I am staying positive , that it will make it more pleasurable to have the Ranger fans think they are going to win the cup, only to lose to the Devils in round 1.

Note: and the Devils score to make it 2-1 vs the Lightning

Not many will pick either of these two vs the Leafs and Rangers in round 1 but I will be waving my pom poms for both(ok I dont have pom poms but you get my drift).

And the Devils tie it.
