It’s crazy how loaded they are at the NHL level, when you consider their prospect pool is just as stacked. They’re gonna be terrorizing this division for a long time.
It seems that way with a lot of teams and then things don't quite pan out the way people expect. So we'll see.

I mean sure, I guess “anything can happen”. Which teams are you referring to that have broken out at the NHL level while still waiting for some of their top guns to even arrive?

Tomorrow will be 4 weeks since Barzal got hurt. Would be nice for any update, other than " there is no timetable for him to start skating". Week to week means nothing to me other than it is longer than day to day.. Was it a 4-6 week injury? 2 months? season ending? Inquiring minds would like to know. Maybe they should have said month to month? Ambiguous as well, but at least I wouldn't be looking for news of his return.. lol.

I took it to mean 4-6 weeks. If there's no update of him skating in a week, I'll start getting very concerned.

MCL injuries, which is what it looked like to me, have an average of 6 weeks recovery. I think the 4 in 4-6 was probably aspirational.
Did they say MCL? I don't doubt it just curious as I had not heard that confirmed, but could have been ACL or PCL(I had a PCL sucked) or a combination maybe with meniscus? . Strain? Tear? I know I know LBI lol.

I'm just guessing, and I'm no doc. There was no announcement about surgery.

With a guy like him, though, he's got to be 100% to play, because if he doesn't have his edges & mobility he won't be effective.

More like it's easy to be good or even really good, but the last step is hard to make. And pipeline guys can seem like they're going to be great, but they don't always pan out. The Devs seem like they have a bright future, but it's early.

I’d say…

Sabres with Eichel as the centerpiece

Oilers with Hall as the centerpiece

Avalanche with Duchene as the centerpiece

Current Vancouver and Toronto teams

…are all examples of highly thought of young player and prospect groups that kind of missed expectations OR in the case of the Avalanche had to recalibrate around a different set of franchise players. In fact that is what appears to be happening with the Oilers and Sabres now, and to some extent the Canucks.

With that all said, there usually isn’t perfect equivalents when making these kind of comparisons. I would also rate the Devils prospect pool as deeper and broader then the examples I offered.

But, still a lot can happen and needs to happen.

appearing more and more the veteran teams like the Isles Pitts and Florida will be fighting for the last 2 spots. Should be an interesting 10-12 games. The young teams kind of wilting down the stretch. Watching the Cats closely in Florida.

Yeah, and Middelstadt (who's a nice player but that's it) and Rasmus Ristolainen who's not that good, etc.. Developing into a really good NHL player is hard. And then as a team starts getting good and makes the playoffs, they start realizing some of their guys are good regular season players but not so much in the playoffs. Goaltending has to be up to snuff. Etc., etc...

NJ has looked good this year, but they just dropped two to the not-quite-dead TBL. Imagine that.

I find the comparison to the Sabres pretty disingenuous. Buffalo hasn’t made the playoffs in 12 years and the Devils are about to get comfortably over 100 points this year.

Nobody is saying they’re Cup favorites, I was just saying it’s more likely than not that they’re gonna be a team to reckon with in the regular season for the foreseeable future. Whether or not they’re the Leafs or the Lightning is the part that remains to be seen, but they have all the makings to be a perennial contender.
