Devils look like they will be a tough out. Rags over achieved by a country mile last year and got lucky as shit, they’ll be an easy out this year.

it really blows that the isles never sign any big name all stars who are free agents….long island, brand new arena, great fans, exciting competitve team, willing owners, but ok horrible state income tax…it never seems to be a problem for the rags… i bring this up because i was watching rags pitt and to see terrasenko and kane skating aroind in a rags jersey is bs.. im just venting being this team seems to NEVER get help from around the league as pitt gets the w vs the rags but the rags also get a point.. id say thwt was the worst possible outcome. amazing…

lastly with the standins the way they are, the isles control their own destiny in my opinion even with the other teams having games in hand…

praying for a successful road trip. im believing jgp ia back vs kings… and can only hope barzal gets back like fkn soon!!! come on man! ughhh

LETS GOOOOO ISLANDERSSSS’!!

ps… its been an exciting journey which will continue to the last regular season game.

80% of the league has the same issue. This isn't an issue that's endemic to the Islanders. There's a few destination spots and then there's the rest of the league. Players will land in those other spots here and there, but it is what it is. If the Rags want a player, they can have that player. The end.

This issue is made too big of a deal of. The reason the isles have not gotten any top UFAs has everything to do with playing in a dump of an arena for 30+ years, being a laughing stock for 20+ years, and having ownership/management that was completely inept. Thankfully that is all in the past. The team can compete for high end UFAs. Horvat arguably would have been the top UFA available this season, he easily could have walked, but decided to sign a long term contract here.

We arent the rangers, players love playing/living in NYC. However we can still go out and get top end UFAs. The Devils have done it, Columbus just signe Gaudreau, there is no reason we cant.

The Kings won Stanley Cups and still couldn't get UFAs to sign there. This will not change for the Isles. They may win the lottery randomly one year like Columbus did with Gaudreau, but the Isles are not and never will be a destination spot. Players will always pick those half dozen premier destinations.

I think the Rags are just getting it out of their system. Watch for them to hit their stride as the playoffs start.
The other thing is how will the playoffs be called? If the refs call games very tight and give out lots of power plays, the NYR could be very tough.

Amd how do we know the Kings couldnt get UFA's? Uf anything the Kings would be a premiere destination. The isles may never be a top 5 destination spot, but they are not far behind. Great practice facilities, fantastic arena, good fan base, great schools and beaches. The Northshore is beautiful. The dark days are behind us.

Tampa is cooked. Lookin like Toronto will get their first round win
Hard to tell with them. They are almost certainly playing Toronto in the first round regardless of how well they play out the season (if they play even .400 hockey the remainder of the season, then the cats would have to go over .750 the rest of the season to overtake them, which is pretty unlikely). So I do think it's possible they're just resting up for the playoffs and will look very different once those start. But we will see.

Tough break for the Canes. Svech might be done for the year. If they can outlast the Devils and we can find a way to get WC1, might be the ideal 1st round matchup for us...even though historically we can't handle them.

Lou is more into a sort of league equity.

He doesn't sign solid NHLers as free agents - he moves first rounders for them first.

Had to stop reading there...

How are we still in a WC spot? I thought these games in hand were guaranteed points and we stood no chance at playoffs because teams had 10 points banked because of it? It’s mind boggling

As long as we are winning, I don't think the games in hand can really help the others - except for FLA. I think the respective teams play each other enough that there are going to be plenty of points being taken from each other.

Just gotta hope that the 3-pointers are held to a minimum along the way.

Still, as close as everything is right now, a friggin lot can happen over 14 games. The Isles really, really need to take 10 of those and they've gotta beat the Caps in those rematches later.

Again, I think this is a team getting it out of their system.

It's going to be tight. I can see 1 team outside the playoffs right now make a big push. If Pitt hangs in there, they have games in hand and they are on a good clip right now 7-2-1. Isles will need to play better than they have to hold onto the final WC. Which would guarantee a shot a Boston. Anything can happen in the playoffs but I don't see Isles handling them this year. I know we beat them under Trotz, I don't get that sense this time around.

I put money on the Lightning a few months ago at 14/1. Felt like it was good value for a team that likely does not care about the regular season at all. I think they'll be able to turn it on for sure, and all of the pressure will be on the Leafs. But there's no doubt that a few of the commentary pieces that they lost are hurting them a bit. Still hoping they can make some noise though. I think if they get through the 1st round they are quickly one of the favorites.
