It’s certainly possible. I wouldn’t call it likely. That’s more of a pessimistic view than an objective one.

Well, I've always taken the pessimistic point of view, but if we look at the teams involved:

Minnesota and Winnipeg are basically a wash, as are Montreal and Philly, in terms of expected difficulty. And obviously, facing each other would be a wash as well.

So you're left with Vegas, Toronto x2, Rangers x2, and Boston vs. Lightning x3, Sabres, Senators, Islanders.

Is it likely that Jersey picks up 3+ points in those games that we don't? I'd say so. But again, I'm pessimistic by nature.

The Canes play just 1 opponent presently in a playoff position by points percentage over the final 9 games. New Jersey plays 5 in its final 9.

There’s no notable difference between the two teams in SOS. NJ has also played one more game.

Say what you want about the postseason, but this continues to be the #1 team in the league in points and points percentage since the start of 2021.

Boston now has 10 million in space minus the performance bonus with a need for a goalie and 6 forwards

6 million in cap space and the need for 8 roster players

Yea they ain’t going to be very good
Yeah it's insane. I get why they re-signed Pasta (who wouldn't), but now they must pay the piper.

Kinda like last year when we thought "Damn Florida y'all better win this year", you can almost multiply that effect to the Bruins, Rangers, Lightning, AND Toronto.

If I had to guess, in 3 years the top East teams will be Carolina, Jersey, and Buffalo. The Rags have enough young defenders that they could be in the mix as well but their forwards entirely depend on Laf and KK showing development they haven't really shown.

Vegas is the least penalized team in the league. A team isn’t penalty free in a game though. It’s whatever though. We didn’t play hard enough to warrant whining about outside forces

This is a phenomenal online book for anyone looking to up their knowledge of the Xs and Os of what the Canes (and all the other teams) are doing out there. It’s $32 and money well spent for the sake of understanding the order behind all that chaos on the ice. And no, I have no connection to the author.

I'm sure the book is great, but I can't read it because the Gumroad app is absolute dogshit. Why can't these motherf***ers just sell shit on Amazon?

Edit: I figured it out, but man. Just sell it on Amazon, dude.

Just catching up on the STM talk... that sucks they apparently shrunk the Pure Hockey sections?!?
Feel lucky that my seats (21 game) went to almost $4000 for the pair... and I was almost at the 5 year mark - doesn't seem to matter any more.

I was going to drop my tix, buuut... Pay as You Play for THIS year's playoffs would be disabled! Rrrrgh. With the Canes, Bruins and Devils all in serious contention, this wasn't the year I wanted to let that go. Esp. as the single game tix prices were through the roof last year.

Ah, lament lament haha

That’s a stated benefit of the STM package when you sign up. Literally says “guaranteed” with a big check mark on the chart of benefits.
So apparently you lose pay as you play for this season if you drop for next year.

That's such bullshit. I was on the fence about renewing before but now I'm out. I already paid for the benefits of the playoffs. I'm a current STM and you're going to squeeze me on playoff tickets after already doubling my price to evict me from my seat?

f*** this shit

Yeah I don’t understand how that isn’t just straight up taking something that you’ve paid for. It isn’t right.
