Yeah I don’t understand how that isn’t just straight up taking something that you’ve paid for. It isn’t right.
The part that pisses me off the most is that I kept my damn money with the Canes throughout COVID. I could have asked for a refund, but I didn't because I knew the franchise was in a really tough spot at the time and I was willing to keep my money there to help out in any way that I could, and my finances at the time were such that we could deal with it.

Not even 2 years later, they're kicking me out of my own seat because they can get more money from someone else, and they're telling me that if I don't like it, I can go ahead and cancel, but they'll still take my $4k or so payment up front for the playoffs rather than continue with the Pay as You Play benefits that I already paid for. This is such f***ing horseshit. As a consumer, not even a fan, I've never felt so completely disregarded and spit upon like I do right now. This time last year I was seriously considering increasing my STM allotment and now I don't know if I'll ever do this again.

So apparently you lose pay as you play for this season if you drop for next year.

That's such bullshit. I was on the fence about renewing before but now I'm out. I already paid for the benefits of the playoffs. I'm a current STM and you're going to squeeze me on playoff tickets after already doubling my price to evict me from my seat?

f*** this shit
Functionally it seems like this system would just be transferring Playoff tickets from loyal STM who attend regular season games to scalpers and fans who are more excited on this season's hype than anything.

Seems like a bad move to alienate those fans while the team is pacing a club record season. The scalpers and bandwagoners won't be back if the team starts to downturn. The previous STM probably won't be super eager to pay up for another regular season knowing they might have their seats jacked for the fun part of the season.

Or just on a simple ethical level, don't tell people they get X for their money and then take it away after you've collected payment.

I'm not really sure what recourse the STM has in this situation, it's not like you can sue them, but it sure feels like they're actively choosing to abuse people their financial leverage over their own customers with this.

I actually just got off the phone with my rep not too long ago. There's actually some things they are doing for the people who are being displaced that actually might give us pretty good value going forward, they're just not announcing publicly. I am now reconsidering my options for next year, and probably will re-up.

Essentially, those who are displaced are going to jump the line at seat selection and be able to select before anyone else. Along with this, they are opening a couple entire sections up in the lower level at the Pure Hockey price, and not just the top 8 rows, and those who are being displaced are getting options of first refusal at the lowest available seats, which are going to be everything from Row D up. At $65 per ticket, that is a fantastic value compared to now.

You mean like a company telling you that you'd have a defined benefits retirement plan waiting for you and it's part of your total compensation, and then after 15 years, they tell you they are no longer providing a defined benefit retirement plan for you?

Nah, that wouldn't happen.

That sounds like a good solution. They might want to get the word out, though. Not the kind of thing you want people hitting the roof about before they hear the plan.

Now, that sort of thing is worth considering legal action over, IMO. A contract is a contract.

Nope. Unless there's a union, or a person is an executive with a specific employment contract and golden parachute, there's no labor contract or law to protect at will employees from that happening. Trust me, I know first hand as I was in my 16th year with a company when they pulled the plug.

And hundreds of corporations have done that exact thing. People have tried legal action, some suggesting age discrimination due to it more adversely impacting older workers, but the companies have almost always prevailed.

But you violate 1 single word of THEIR part of the contract and you bet your ass they'll rake you over the coals for everything you have

Maybe i'm late to the party, but there is a show called "NHL BTS" on the nhl network right now about the stadium series. I missed a ton of it, but it is awesome. Just a ton of different behind the scenes footage.

Fortunately it will show again friday, saturday, sunday so i've got it set to record. So, head's up to anyone who was ignorant like me, if it sounds appealing.

Easy now. Corporations are people with rights too.

If you have ESPN+ you can replay it on demand.

It’s cool stuff, frankly some of it a bit tedious because it’s so in the weeds of all the gameday logistics, but at the same time it does make you realize how many people did a heavy lift in order to make the game a reality. It’s so much more than just the front office and players.

It’s a shame (for his legacy) that there isn’t a Rod Langway Award. Slavin’s reputation is such that he’d be the default choice, like Bergeron has been for the Selke and Lidstrom at one time for the Norris. 5+ of that type of achievement would put him in the HHOF.
I've always thought they should go the other way and make a Bobby Orr trophy for best offensive defenseman and the Norris would shift back to the defensive or well rounded side as a consequence of that.

But hell, create both. Forwards nearly always get the Hart + Lindsay, plus there's the Art Ross and the Rocket Richard. And I'm also in favor of a Gretzky award for assists.

Sean Avery trophy for the biggest asshole? There are of course other good candidates for the trophys name.

Also wanted to post somewhere that we have arrived now at the hardest 10 game stretch of the season.

3/11 - Vegas (home)
3/12 - New Jersey (away)
3/13 - off
3/14 - Winnipeg (home)
3/15 - off
3/16 - off
3/17 - Toronto (away)
3/18 - Philadelphia (away)
3/19 - off
3/20 - off
3/21 - NY Rangers (away)
3/22 - off
3/23 - NY Rangers (home)
3/24 - off
3/25 - Toronto (home)
3/26 - Boston (home)
3/27 - off
3/28 - Tampa (home)

That's 3 back to backs and ultimately 9 games against playoff opponents in a stretch of 10. After that we have to end with the easiest schedule in the league. Lots of cupcake games.

So which goalie gets which game this weekend? I would think kochetkov gets Vegas and Andersen gets the devils even if that’s not alternating like they planned
